Howdydee2003
For the people that has played since the beginning must know that Runescape has came aloooong way. But with the release of membership cards in Targets across the country blows my mind. I personally, did not think it would grow this much. Any ideas on how much more it will grow? Maybe commercials like Wow? I guess its all the old players that really notice all these huge changes :-# Howdydee2003:99 Attack - 99 Strength - 99 Hits - 99 Magic - 99 SmithingFirst To get 99 Smithing With GoldSmithing Guants Zx7r Ninja (Currently Training) Updated 2/14/09: Ags Achieved on 2/15/0975/75 Attack 89/99 Strength 50/50 Def 78/85 Hits***Owned a Bandos Godsword since 59 Combat***

Reztral
It has gone past its peak (imo) and will start to decline heavy around 2009, or possibly 2010. I don't think Runescape will decline around 2010, or even 2011 for that matter. Tons of people still play Diablo 2 and that game doesn't even get updated that much, so it makes sense that tons of people would continue to play a game that is updated almost every week. Plus, with new forms of advertising, such as the German commercial, more people that may not have even heard of Runescape may decide to give it a try. I think that Runescape will in fact gain more players in the coming years. --8727th person to achieve 99 Fishing on 8/19/2008----6012th person to achieve 99 Thieving on 10/12/2008--R.I.P. Diablo II is just a freaking awsome game that comes around every few years. Few games can rival the success of diablo in terms of lifespan. I can think of two: Netrek(barely) and Continuum (which is still popular in some circles). But I do agree, for better or worse, alot of people will continue to play RS for many years. I do not however, expect a cult following on the level of Diablo (though they did wright a book, and the great games like Diablo series and Halo series also have their own novels with back and future story). highlanders
RS is never going to be what it was in the past. When RS2 replaced RSC for a solid 2-3 years there was a huge expansion of the amount of players. Ever since that peak, the amount of player has slowly been going down. RS is crippled technologically, and that puts solid limits to what it can do and the amount of players it has the power to attract. We've reached that peak and now there isn't going to be any more growing for RS. While other gaming companies are producing mind-blowing graphics coupled with good gameplay and content, RS is still stuck in the middle-ages. RS just remains that cheap, low requirement, easy accessible mmorpg. And meanwhile, jagex will release mechscape whose purpose is probably to attract "real" gamers. 2480+ total

Though the cost is generally two and a half times of that of Runescape, most hardcore gamers will be willing to shell out the cost difference. Heck, plenty of casual gamers are too. If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system. Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased. The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? fat_klutz
Yo, people play DII because you can just hack w/e the hell you want and have fun. I don't think RS is gonna die but I'd say it is certainly coming close to peaking. It is going to face a lot of competition when stuff like DIII come out and with computers and graphics getting better and better browser based graphics just aren't going to cut it. It will probably retain a dedicated group of players for quite awhile though. kemikalkadet
I personally think that RS has hit it's peak and is going slowly on a downhill slope. :? Yup i agree. Look at the lifecycle of any of the mature MMO's and compare it to RS and you can see the similarities. RS is at the stage where practically everyone who is likely to play already knows about it. Advertising will bring a few more people in, maybe the same rate as people are leaving, maybe more, maybe less, but there will be a gradual decline. This isn't all doom and gloom though, generally declines of aging MMO's are very slow and gradual unless Jagex really does something to kill the game (which is very unlikely) Actually funorb illustrates it quite well. Jagex pretty much only advertised funorb on the main runescape website, so you can use runescape players as a pretty stable audience segment, looking at the graph from alexa, i marked where Jagex put a funorb ad as a news item on runescape.com. You can see that each advert gets less and less people as gradually, everyone that is likely to be interested in funorb, who also visit runescape.com, already knows about it and therefore the advertising has less effect. A similar thing will happen to runescape but on a bigger scale.
Omali
I personally think that RS has hit it's peak and is going slowly on a downhill slope. :? Hammertime
Runescape will probably start to regain alot of its players once the pvp worlds are released. I dont think people realise how many accounts were given up when pking was removed, pures and mains alike. The upcoming pvp update will be a turning point for jagex because they have been lacking in customer support and general content for a good while now. summoning and the new hd graphics have been a good starting point, I only hope they follow suit and make pvp a respectable update so they can continue to help runescape grow even more in the future. As for how far it will grow, no one can say but ill bet jagex will come up with some clever ways of advertising and getting the game known

Bauke
Everyone will quit and play Diablo III (3) because it's going to own every other MMORPG. When will you stop making completely irrelevant, dumb and plaint idiotic posts? Every post you make just makes me lose more and more faith in humanity. ---- Ontopic. I don't think anyone can predict what will happen with Runescape in terms of years. If you look at a year back, Runescape was a lot different. Let alone going back 5 years, in the Classic days. Totally different. The game expanded, grew and evolved in a way that nobody could have imagined. And that last part is quite logical, since no one here actually works at Jagex, and thus nobody knows their long term visions on the game. Every company lead by a decent CEO knows that standing still leads to the eventual downfall of your product. So you have to innovate, and I think they're quite aware of that at Jagex Towers. Who knows what the game will look like in .. lets say, one or maybe two years? Nobody does. And to people who can actually provide data on lets say, the financial matters, ammount of subscribers or whatever... I'm interested.
