so ive been thinking, most other mmo has a deep storyline thats told through major quest and missions like wwo, and guild wars (dunno if many of u know gw). but my point is this, after reading through some articles on runescape wiki (yes i was really bored) i found out that runescape actually have a very deep history (although some parts of it seems very ridiculous like a god "died" because he tripped  *hint zaros*) but only a few quest in runescape actually tell the story, and most of those are unfinished :wall: .

so do u think jagex should make maybe a set of primary quest that tells the history of runescape like WGS? i dont know about you but being a rpg i think storyline is the most important part of a game, next to gameplay.

If you do the Quests, the story tells itself

RS history is one of the most intricate that I've seen in games out today. It's just not obvious to the average player. To appreciate it, you have to do a lot of digging in the lores, quest dialouge, etc.

Yup. RS is notorious for its dangling storylines.

Meeting History, Making Histroy, The Dig Site, The Temple of Ikov are all quests I can think of off the top of my head that deeply involve history, most notably around the God Wars era.

Which is why most Tif'ers get mad because Jagex seems to refuse to end most storylines. God forbid they have to start new ones! It's a frustrating aspect, but you're either gonna keep playing or quit because of it. Make your choice now and save yourself the 5$ membership. '-'

I reckon one of the things that makes Rs a sucess is the lack of a storyline that connects everything. It lets people progress though the game as they like, rather than being told your motivation or cause you make your own, which I think is nice.

Anyway your right as far as Rs having a pretty deep history, brings the game to life imo. Some of it may seem strange at first like the whole zaros death thing but its just beacue you may not have heard it in context and as I heard someone once say, "History is a tragedy and then a farce"

I kinda wish Jagex would start some new quest chains, rather than random stand alone quests, so they could also close some of the older ones.

Theres a fine line between not listening and not caring,

I like to think I walk this line every day.

Pinning blame on Jagex is like trying to put pants on an old man.

You both know he needs them, but he'll just keep dancing around, avoiding them at all costs.

All the quest tell pieces of the story, we don't need a few that tell the whole thing.

but those pieces arent easy to piece together and theres usually alot of gaps in between. and not all the quests tell pieces of the story, most of them have nothing to with anything.

yeah it is annoying espacially when they leave the story unfinished for over a year lol. but this isnt something i would quit over, i just want to know what those guys at jagex are thinking when they start a new one while theres 5 unfinished ones.

I think they plan to use the WGS storyline to wrap up multiple quests all at once. If you think, a lot of interesting things seem to all be happening at the same time...

Runescape does have a very intricate history though, if you do all the quests, make some inferences, and read some of the books lying around, it will all start to unfold.

Or ask Hippodo.

There are a lot of quest chains in Runescape, and many of them chain together.

Every town, every city, every area, has its own unique history and tale to tell.

Even the Barrows Brothers evolved from "oh hey, look, ghosts with cool armor drops" to have their own intricate story.

I love reading Runescape lores and histories, not to mention postbag from the hedge. It gives great insight into the game's story.

Also, it was quite a tearjerking moment during the battle in While Guthix Sleeps, it seemed almost unfair that it just ended in a couple puffs of ash and one slowly falling hat. I went to his house afterwards and planted mithril seeds.

I personally like the open ended stories instead of for example having a prophecy, of one day a legendary warrior will come and whatever, they do leak things to hype it up but i think jagex aim to offer more excitement and buzz around the release than have it told 5-10 years in advance

RuneScape actually has a BIG story hidden in it, and the lack of storyline doesn't bother me at all. It gives us the freedom to do what we want to do, there are virtually no restrictions. The game leaves to make our own story, making it much more a RPG than games with a main storyline.

I think there's not actual storyline on Runescape, why? Well it's just that the quests are written by so many different people, that they may not connect between each other at all... and trying to connect the dots it's just a headache, because there's no way there's a single, unique storyline for the game.

I wouldn't say Runescape has a storyline overall, more of a general history. A very good history mind!

Its also not only like ther is one story to be told in runescape. There are so many different lands with their own history and usually respecting quest line: the east and the fight against the vampire's tyranny told through the myreque, the gnome's and their growing power and growing corruption advances through the grand tree quests, the interaction between ardougne and the elves and the subsequent fate of runescape unwinds in the plauge city quests. I could go on, but the point is that there is not a "main" quest line to explain all of these; they are all idependant storylines that form the rich diversity that is Gielnor.

I agree.

That, to be honest, is one of the things that set RuneScape apart from other MMORPGs when it comes to its unique story-telling. Combine that with the fact that there are alot of these storylines to quest along, and you've got hours and hours of entertainment ::' . You'll understand and appreciate the story behind each more if you do quests you're unfamiliar with without guides - this way you have to actually pay attention to the dialogue  .

Can I ask how many QP you have? :o As a quest caper I can tell you that RS has a very deep storyline(s).

Yup, Quests = Story.

Keep in mind that quests dont always need to have a story line.

A "quest" is a mission you accept to do something for someone.

It just so happens that history is revealed to you through this ques. (Jagex made it)

The quests that tell no story are equally important. We wouldnt have the best gloves in the game if it wernt for the RFD quest.

Its just little breaks we take to do things and get XP and items in return. Im fine with these.

Thanks mate ;) And I agree with you, RuneScape has a lot of history, both on a small scale like the founding of Varrock, and on a near-global scale like the Godwars. I became the unofficial 'historian' because I like all those different tales. Too bad I haven't done WGS yet, still need to do like 5 quests... And I don't like to spoil the whole thing by reading a guide, so I'm basically blank on everything unveiled in that quest :?

Due to my epic stats, I have now started WGS (but I still hate spoilers).

sighistorian.jpg

I believe they have already made a set of quests telling or making history.

John_Pax.png

Runescape has a great history, but at first, it's hard to figure out. You get a few hints all around Runescape, during quests, minigames, random items, objects, monsters, books. Once you piece it together, it all seems to fall into place, and things that you thought were just random gibberish now make sense.
