March 12, 200917 yr Why is it okay to get messed up out of your mind on prescription pills, but taking a puff of cannabis is frowned upon? I know some people who have prescriptions. (One of which is my teacher.) They seem to be in much worse shape than any smoker I've seen, yet they're allowed to drive, work, teach, etc. Do we put too much trust in doctors, people who are getting money from us? What are your opinions?
March 12, 200917 yr Just have to clarify, is it your prescription, or are you taking it from someone else and getting high? Because if its the latter then it is becoming more and more frowned upon, and potentially more dangerous then weed. Isn't it lovely how having an opinion makes you hated around here?
March 12, 200917 yr All medicine is poison, it just depends on what you kill first. People fail to realize that, which is becoming a trend in our society. People think, no matter what the medication, that it is perfectly OK to take, even if you don't require it for intended purposes. Have any of really felt the side effects of something as common as diphenhydramine, other than drowsiness? I know I haven't, until I thought about it. We don't look at the negative effects of commonly administered medications mainly because we put a lot of faith in medication and physicians.

March 12, 200917 yr Author Just have to clarify, is it your prescription, or are you taking it from someone else and getting high? I'm talking about "legit" prescriptions that are just for you, not ones given by a friend or someone. You're right that taking them when you're not prescribed is even more dangerous, but they're still pretty hazardous in the first place - yet it's publicly acceptable. My teacher has days where she just loses it. The whole class laughs at her and she thinks they're laughing with her so she laughs along. :?

March 12, 200917 yr It is illegal, so yes of course it is wrong. It also seems to have a negative effect on the productivity of a person, but that is besides the point. Respect the law, even though there is nothing inherently criminal or malevolent in smoking marijuana. [iNSERT "I R EATIN TEH SHIX ATM" BILL COSBY SIGNATURE GIF HERE, LOL]
March 12, 200917 yr Better than what the US does. Wasted billions of dollars on the "war on drugs"I couldn't agree more. However, I'm pleased to report that this may be changing. It's unfortunate that the legalization/decriminalization of cannabis across the country may only be realized due to the worsening economic recession (if at all), but at least California's taking a step in the right direction for now. ----- 'Onto the topic at hand, I would consider cannabis to be far less dangerous than many of the prescription medications abused today. Here in Kentucky, it can be as simple as complaining of back pain to a doctor to be prescribed a 90-pill bottle of 800mg Ibuprofen--and that's hardly the worst out there--which can seriously damage internal organs in addition to severely impairing motor functions should the pills be taken excessively. The widespread availability of many dangerous prescription medications and the oftentimes reckless abandon with which they are consumed has become a serious issue. ----- EDIT: I have to disagree with your post, l0rd. If the primary reason as to why marijuana should not be smoked is merely due to the fact that it is illegal in the first place, then its legalization would effectively solve the problem. People take medicine to cure in ailment, not for fun like addicts. And doctors have nothing to gain by loosely prescribing drugs. They get the co-payment whether you leave with a prescription or just a lollipop. The only real problem in that area is the over-prescribing of antibiotics, which is weakening our immune system and making stronger bacteria at the same time.

The only real problem in that area is the over-prescribing of antibiotics, which is weakening our immune system and making stronger bacteria at the same time. The problem is doctors ARE loosely prescribing drugs, just because they can. Have a cold? Take an antibiotic (seriously happened to a friend once. He argued with the doctor about how a cold is a virus not a bacteria.) Now I know this isn't every doctor, but many would prescribe anything that had a pro, without really looking at the cons. It's also pretty safe to say the pharmaceutical companies will make medications that destroy our bodies, and sell them to us, because we will just come back as a result of a side effect of a drug, and they will prescribe us another drug, and another, and that's how they make their billions.
March 12, 200917 yr I couldn't care less what people do as long as they aren't effecting someone other than themselves. If a person wants to sit in their basement and pop pills, than so be it. The minute you leave your house is when I have a problem with you. I don't believe your teacher should be allowed to teach, let alone drive for that matter. If your judgment is impaired, you shouldn't be on the road or working with any type of machinery. As for the use of cannabis, once again, do it in your own home where others can be safe from your poor reaction time and decisions. That is just my opinion on these matters. : PoetryIndexed Picture 1Indexed Picture 2 Killed my maxed Zerker pure April 2010 Rebooting Runescape

Respect the law, even though there is nothing inherently criminal or malevolent in smoking marijuana. Are you kidding? There's no reason to respect the law simply because it's the law. If the machine is working unjustly, a conscientious citizen has a duty to be part the friction that grinds it to a halt (to paraphrase Henry David Thoreau). I can't say I'm a fan of Walden, but Civil Disobedience is something everyone should read. La lune ne garde aucune rancune.
March 12, 200917 yr I will never understand the mentality of those who think that they/or the state have the justification to tell people what they can and cannot do to themselves. In fact, what annoys me more is that these people are usually the same people who talk about "freedom" as if they actually know what the concept means, but then go on to support Bush with suspension of habeas corpus/all that good stuff. It's all about stigma, and a population of people who are too stupid/willfully ignorant to see past it all. When I look at these drug laws and think back to my experiences with drugs (both positive and negative) I think to myself, what the hell is wrong with these people? And I know they think the same way about me, and probably this makes me just as bigoted as them, but I can't possibly respect them no matter how hard I try. I used to be all about acceptance - that was my one ambition really, to accept everybody. Yet now, I just can't. I tried it for a while, and to be honest I'm not sure if I knew at the time whether it wouldn't work, or whether that's just me reflecting on that experience and trying to make sense of it all by conjuring some sort of concrete subconscious doubt that I had all along to make it seem as if I never changed. This leads me to believe that inside I'm scared of understanding that everything is always changing, and obviously I already know this, but there is a difference between knowing and understanding. I've never had so much contempt and hatred for people in my entire life as I have had in the past few months. When I look at society, I can't help but notice the masses of stupid, easily manipulated, empty shells of human beings that hold everybody with any substance back, and I can't decide whether they're happy because of ignorance or whether deep down they know their nature - and to be honest that's probably why real happiness scares me, in the sense that sometimes I find myself intentionally making things a little worse and a little bit more chaotic just so I have something to plague me at my core, cause without that cognitive dissonance and constant analysis of my self, I fear that I'll become one of the drones. I don't know how I got onto that from the topic at hand, but whatever lol. Anyway, all drugs should be legal, the government doesn't have the justification to tell you what you can and cannot do to yourself. Any government that does do this is inherently tyrannical simply by definition. Hey.

What are your opinions? You must live in America. Here in Canada, and most of the western world, doctors are free. Though it's not quite a double standard because doctors will tell you how much to take per day, and for the most part that amount is below the threshold for abuse. People who go over that limit to get high are druggies just the same as people who use street drugs to get their kicks. Vienna Raszyn Warsaw Klushino

March 13, 200917 yr I feel specail now Several cities in California and around the nation have adopted laws making marijuana the lowest law enforcement priority, including Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, Denver and Seattle. My town :) Anyway, I know like 2 people in my school who have ever been caught with marijuana. The schools are fairly strict on it (there have to be at least a dozen "random" searches a week. Nobody ever gets caught unless they're stupid. I agree it would be a better idea to have it be legalized and harder for teens to get a hold of. I know of two specific people who are failing at least two classes now because of weed simply because they never go.
March 13, 200917 yr Because marijuana can both exacerbate and bring out pre-existing mental illnesses that may not have otherwise surfaced, in particular schizophrenia and paranoia/anxiety. Smoke cigarettes? higher the chances of cancer. I guess they'd rather a room full of potential cancer patients than a room full of potential schizophrenics. Legalize it and what do you get? You increase the mental instability in the world's population. Although I'm sure even if it's illegal many would find ways anyway. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

In criminal trade there is no regulation, gangs fight for control of key shipment lines and dealing turf and there are countless deaths associated with this. Gangs fund other criminal operations with their main money source; drugs. Also, how does the state/majority have any justification to tell you what you can and cannot do to yourself? Hey.

Sound argument I agree with you but at the same time you can't dismiss the fact the the world's mental instability will increase the more widely available it becomes. If you want to go give yourself schizophrenia/paranoia/anxiety that may not have otherwise surfaced then be my guest but the general public is at harm. To say that all schizophrenics are molesting, murderers is a stereotype but it'll definitely increase. If everyone could run around and do whatever they wanted, the world would be an ugly place. Why can't I go up and stab you if you annoy me and not get away with it? lol I'm not serious by the way.
