Since I'm not the rich type (Most money I ever had was something like 4mil or so). I'm semi-self sufficient.

I buy seeds for farming, yet I collect herbs on my own (Geeze, 50-60 herblore would make me go emo because of the cost)

for the most part if i need something and i can get it easily from the G E and not other activities i go G E

but if it is something i enjoy doing like wc or farming i normally do it myself

actually farming is a special case

seeing as i bought a ton of sees and such a while back and only now am i using them it is hard to say

i bought em back b4 the G E existed lol

the G E is really helpful for things like con though it helped me a lot in making my house all neat and pretty <3:

I think the only thing I don't collect myself is rune essences. I mine my own coal/mithril/iron, I fish my own lobsters, and when I start woodcutting again I'll be cutting my own willows/yews. I even collect crafting supplies from monster drops and the like.

Of course, I am F2P.

Pre GE: Yes, I did not like the hassle of trading with other people. (those were my rune days)

GE: No! I buy everything that I need and sell what I do not. (these are my dragon days)

While many say the GE ruined things I find it much more convenient and helpful for the entire community. If you want to buy something chances are it is on the GE. This includes many low level items that people normally do not sell pre GE.

So I like to say I am sufficing the community. \'

If I get something I think I'll use later, I'll hoard it in my bank. But most stuff is bought off the GE. In the amount of time it would take me to gather/spin 1k bowstrings for fletch, I could have made enough money to buy them, the 10k crafting xp and still have some left over. If I can apply that same logic to something, then its more efficient for me to buy it then gather it. However sometimes I could be in the mood to gather something, so I throw efficiency to the wind and just gather.

I collect most of my own materials. Though, lately (because I've made a nice bundle of money) I've been buying my materials. I prefer collecting them myself though ;)

I was self sufficient before, but that was when I was poor.

I mean, before the GE every danged merchant who wanted to buy from me was trying to get me to sell low so that they could flip it for a profit. No respect at all. I may as well have just joined them in the exploitation of the hard labor's work ethic, and I would have made more money. There was not much point for me to even fish for a profit.....those days, I did it because it was relaxing. I mean, I certainly didn't spend hours of sitting on a dock just to be ripped off for that time by some two-bit punk on the streets who thinks they're doing something worthwhile.

I don't see why it was so great before the GE, just a bunch of bloody [bleep]ers shouting in the street and doing nothing whatsoever regarding fair trade.

These days......I still can't make much money from fishing. Combat drops being much much better than everything else in the game and whatnot. Not much of a choice these days if you want to maintain purchasing power in this world. So.....still doing this for relaxation.

The view's kind of nice from atop this hill. Despite the metallic horrors beneath the whirlpool. But it is fun watching various people jump in to their doom. I'd wave to them, but I've got fish to cut.

I am self sufficient. I find it much more fun to experience the full game. Buying resources off others does not give as much accomplishment as doing it all by (for) yourself.

Sure it does take (much) more time getting your own resources, but that's what games are for; having fun while playing, not trying to beat the game system as quick as possible.

Like Paul said years ago, adding a lever to get level 99 in an instant would ruin it. Using shortcuts (like buying all your resources) can be seen in the same spirit.

I do use the G.E. sometimes to dump drops that I do not use myself (like granite mauls) but that's about all I use it for.

What is the point to play a multiplayer game if you are going to do everything by yourself ?

The merchant role is only a small portion of all the roles you can play in an RPG, helping people, looking for distractions with a few friends, adventuring, competing against others, copeing with situations you find yourself in when arriving at a place you planned some activity.

All these and more involve other players. Therefore a multiplayer game is perfect for such activities :-)

I guess I'm just not that attracted to running piramid scemes.

It's not that I don't like using the GE, it's just that I feel more of a sense of accomplishment if I know that I did everything required for the final product by myself. Maybe the attitude of a stoic, but who knows? :-)

Self sufficiency = inefficiency = more grinding = no fun.

What's the point of doing something that makes 50k/hour if you have the ability to make 500k/hour and buy 10x amount of the 50k/h items in the same amount of time?

To each his own. I would rather be the one getting the 50k/hour.

50% self-sufficient.

For Herblore and Construction, I have to buy the ingredients/materials to level.

For Runecrafting, I buy the essence that I require and use some of my own.

For Firemaking and Summoning, I gets my own.
