Albel
I though of this question while I was reading this thread. viewtopic.php?f=30&t=797039 Please do not bring this topic into this thread, only showing you where I got the idea Basicly, do you collect your own material for for your own gain? Or do you buy them from the Grand Exchange? As for me, I rely a lot on the GE for many supplies (Seeds, herbs, and other items) But if i need food, or logs for any reason, I can get them my self. I also try to mine my own ore for smithing and runecrafting. So what about you? Assume Nothing
This really depends on type of activity. For something, say, herblore, making prayer potions, I could quickly go and gather a few snapegrass with ease and make prayer potions. But for something that is even relatively complicated, like getting sharks or pineapple pizza, I just GE it.
Pballer007
GE, I have no time to be wasting gathering this and that.
Musky44
That's not fun at all. I think I'll play the game for fun, not to waste time doing what bots/skillers can do.

Danqazmlp
Barely, if i have the herbs and seconds and i need pots, i'll make them, but if not i'll go to the g.e. The same premise with everything else. Pinkbullet3
I found a thread similar to this one: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=793430 The only thing that I become self-sufficient at is training prayer. With such big bone prices nowadays, I just have to get them myself instead of buying them. Slower process, but. :? ^ Blog.
InkofDeath
If I have the money for it, I'm going to buy it, and I also need to make sure I make the money back or more from whatever I buy. As soon as any of the buyable skills become profitable to buy, I'll probably invest in them. However cooking I may just fulfill from fishing lobsters, salmon and trout. Though things like smithing I'm not particularly sure I want to spend the time banking, or losing money just buying the items. For me it depends on the economical situation around the price of the items that I could buy to not be self-sufficient, but if I need the items, then I'll be self-sufficient. Star_Fox
time>money. its worthwhile to collect your own supplies in case of a mh trip but buying in bulk instead of collecting raw materials is more beneficial.
Zaaps1
Nope, I am a neo-Colonialist. I make others my slaves for supplies by using the market to my advantage. Hell they're willing to sell, so why shouldn't I be willing to buy? Last time I made something with my own supplies must've been years ago, unless you count the release of summoning when you couldn't buy any of the seconds. ~It's Super Effective! muggiwhplar
My friend and I have our own accounts that we play on with the simple rules: no using the GE; no trading with other players So on that account, yes, I'm completely self-sufficient lol

Mil
Well, where I can't afford something, I'll be self-sufficient (ie. all those Cosmics for 99 Mage). But mostly I'd prefer a quick buy on GE. However, if it's training a skill, then I may try link the two things I need together.
Alg
When I skill, I keep the product. I think I have only bought food once, for example, and the only ranged items I buy are broad bolts. Though for things I can't get, like combat gear, random dropped items, or things I don't have the level to make, I buy it. I like being at least a little self-sufficient. Beats wasting money on something that I can get myself, and get experience for. I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
Lielac
Depends whether I'm in a self-sufficient mood. If I want to run around collecting stuff, I do. If I don't, I don't. I do whatever is most enjoyable, and sometimes that means buying a ton of maple logs, sometimes going out there and hacking at maples and going all Blaze Sharpeye on the resultant logs. Balance may be power, but chaos is still pretty damn fun.Canada can't be second rate, polar bears are their main mode of transportation.
onuasdad
I'm really lazy... I just use GE for everything. When I needed something before the GE came out, I sat in the Varrock general store for HOURS waiting for that specific item... Death should not be taken as 'the end,' but a very effective way to cut down taxes.
Meta318
I rarely get anything myself. I pretty much rely on the Grand Exchange for everything. It's faster for me and more fun. If I do other skills I do them to raise them not to get the materials. March 23, 2008- 99 Thieving. January 2, 2009- 99 Defence. Quest cape since October 2007. SwreeTak
No, I'm not. And I don't need to be either, since I have quite a lot of money. The whole reason to having money is that you don't need to be self suffcient, at least for me. When you have money you can just buy the stuff you need instead of getting it yourself. This way you can save a lot of time, which you can instead put on doing things you find funnier than getting the items that you bought. Of course it takes time to get the money as well, but I rather make money than get all the items I need myself. Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak

JoeDaStudd
Depends, some times I'll have a stock of item which I gained and use them other times I'll buy a top amount on the GE. Things like super attacks and prayer pots I make myself without I'm running low and have no supplies. Armours, some runes/arrows and food I buy as it takes too long to amaze the amounts I tend to burn through.
