Your first car wreck.

I had one accident while there was still black ice on the road during a mild climate. I'll spare the imagery, but the vehicle, an Explorer of some sorts, ended up mangled beside the mountainous terrain that I was on. Rubble protruded through the driver's side of the car which uprooted the driver's seat. It was twisted in such a way that the left side the seat hit the steering wheel, precisely where my shoulder laid; I was pinned by my left side. It mustn't have been a minute until someone who was trailing me aided me and called for help. I was then transfered to the hospital to have a minor form of surgery on my arm. Unfortunately, during the surgery, my arm was dropped while I was unconscious. The nerves where stretched in such a way that they cannot recover from. I am now unable to move my arm above my shoulder.

Ouch... I feel really bad for you.

Anyways, I just got my license today actually, so I haven't got myself into an accident yet, though there have been a few times I was with my mom and we got rear ended; nothing major though.

The first week after i got my first car, i was driving to to a garage to get the brakes checked, pulled up to a roundabout, pulled out, got halfway around and a woman pulled out because she hadn't seen me, i went straight into her drivers side door. Bloody woman wasn't looking where she was going, and because of her, my insurance has cost me £500 more this year than last year :wall:

The first accident I was in was just myself. Road was slick (first rain in about 4 months) and I turned right from red arrow. The back of the car just wanted to keep turning... I did a 180, took out a keep left sign with the passenger door and front quarter. The sign itself ripped up the fuel and brake lines as I slide over it before smacking into the barrier on the other side of the road with the front of the car. $6,500 damage on a car insured for $7,000. One more panel damaged and it would have been a write-off. Bloody insurance companies...

My second wreck was ridiculously funny. But since this is only about first, no go there

Monday 6\22\09 ( this week) I thought I saw her turn as I watched for an opening, and I went. She was still there. It wasn't serious at all, just embarrassing, a 90$ ticket fee, a $40 headlight, and now my bro has a reason to call me a bad driver :(

I've been lucky enough not to of been involved in one, and never plan to.

Not preposterous at all. People can plan all the want about what they do and don't want to happen to them.

Whether or not other people they encounter during their life agrees with that plan is another issue all together.

Oh, and nature likes to throw spanners in the works way to often (refer to my 'wreck').

I didn't plan to get into a wreck, it just sort of happened thanks to the change in weather.

I care about my truck too much to damage it. My dirtbike on the other hand...

However some people I know got in an accident last weekend. They didn't sober up enough before going for a beer run (the girl driving never had her license) and she managed to hit a crossing. The car supposedly flipped 10-12 times. They're currently hospitalized and not in great condition. :(

It will happen one day, Trust me, you don't plan on it but it will happen.

Haven't been in one yet, that's because I don't own a car...but one time on the way to San Diego we did hit someone and it left a nice dent in the car...

Been driving since I was 13 and a half and nothin yet...I have a friend tho who's hit I think 4 parked cars now. :wall:

I've gotten flat tires and speeding tickets, and once went between 2 deer (each less than 2 ft from either side of my car) while going 75 mph - that was pretty intense - but yeah, no wrecks yet. You wouldn't be able to tell by looking at my car though, it's had a basketball hoop dropped on it, and there's other various scratches and dents in the front of the car, along with a duct taped rear view mirror and no front hubcaps, but none of that happened while I was in it.

May the presents of our lord and savior, Santa, be with you this holiday season!

Where do you live that allows you do drive at that age? Or is it on private land etc?

Always thought youngest age to drive was 14.

Don't have my licence yet, but I was in a car on an icy road. Tried to turn, but it slipped and fishhooked. Smashed into a tree and rolled over on the side. The side door was completely demolished and so was the window. Got a nasty gash from it.

  • 4 weeks later...

The first accident I was in my friend was drinking and there was a bunch of us in his truck and he lost control and hit a tree at about 100 KM/H.

The first accident where I was driving i was speeding a bit and a semi started turning into me and i tried to hit the service road but went into a curb and about 85 KM/H, I totalled my first car just over a month after i got it (98 Cavalier). I put $2000+ into it and insurance gave me $1850 after they took the $700 deductable, I guess they think I was at fault and they sent me a $125 fine in the mail just after the accident and I had to go to some course, And I got 6/10 Demerits now because of it. :wall:

What did you do to put $2000 in there, that's an awful lot for a month :o .

First accident was when a mate was driving drunk, doing fish tails at around 90kph and lost control. Went off the road, just missed a concrete drain, got back on the road and missed a power pole by about 20cm judging by the tyre marks the next morning. His car was fine except a flat tyre and broken skirting because we got air over a driveway.

Second was when I was driving and some old guy pulled out in front of me. It would have been fine if he fully cut me off, but he stopped in the middle of the road and froze while I skidded into him :wall: The whole front of my car was crushed, radiator actually split in half.. It was insured though, and I had no excess fee because it was the other guys' fault.

that second one is lucky; a lot of places would've been "you were behind.. your fault" which is pretty gay.

When I was in my second accident, some bastard jump lanes during a turn in an intersection (Mains & McColluogh), and he smacked into the front quarter of my car. Only damage to me was it bent the wing of my bullbar, but he had like 3k in damages, and it took 3 months for RACQ to accept the following:

1. All I did was "fail to give way" to the other car

Which on the other hand, the other car did the following:

1. Was probably speeding to catch a yellow arrow

2. Failed to maintain lane position during turn (was on the inside lane at start of turn, far left lane after turn)

3. Failed to indicate actions for 1 & 2

And, in their statement to RACQ (their insurer) the accident apparently happened the day before, at a different intersection and at a different time. Logically I pointed this out and corrected the location/date/time. If I just said I wasn't in an accident then and there, I would've gotten away with a bent bullbar only :wall:

There was a small hill, I was in my aunties car and my parents and my nan were in the car at the bottom of the hill, my dad braked due to someone in front of their car, we were at the top of the hill going down and the wheels on my aunties car couldn't grip on the road so we kept on going down and hit the back of my parents car. Was hilarious at the time (my auntie was going "Ahhh" in a funny/jokey way)

Another time I driving with my dad on the mountains and there was ice on the road, lost control of the car and hit a lampost (which was lucky enough since if that wasn't there he probably would've gone down a hill)

The water pump went and that costed $1300, Mostly for labor >_< and I was going down a side road kinda fast and bottomed out on a bump and the exhaust came off, That was only a $200 job though. Then I had to get a noisy muffler, tint the windows, get a cd player and that kinda stuff you don't really need XD.

Yeah I heard about that, but I hit the guy on the side and we were in the middle of the street so it was pretty obvious to everybody. Plus I took pictures, and the phone numbers of a couple witnesses just in case.

I've been done for that. Somebody hit me up the [wagon], I hit the car in front. Court ruled I was liable for the damage to the person I hit because I was too close and the person who hit me could not be traced. It's a red light, I was 15m away and the guy who hit me was doing 75. What the hell was I supposed to do?

A few months back i wrote off my £8,500 renault clio sport. It was a 1.9 litre and i was on my way home from work. It was late and wet and i took a bend that lead onto a bridge, without realising i hit the gas instead of the brake, accelerated from 25-40 miles an hour in a matter of seconds then, bang! hit the bridge head on. It was made of solid concrete and upon impact, as i hit on at the side and not head on, the air bag did not deploy and i skidded more than 30 yards across and down the road. I smashed my head on the windscreen, busted a few ribs and was coughing up blood for a few days.

I'm quite a naive guy but I'm shocked at the number of people on here admitting to drink driving/getting in a car with a drunk driver. (which IMO is a discraceful thing to do, moving a massive block of metal around at 30+mph while drunk shows no respect for the lives of other people)
