September 5, 200916 yr You do realize children read some of these posts, right? On-Topic: I realized today that if I hadn't read The Origin of Species, or known the theory of evolution, I may have actually considered having a slave. That's assuming my peers would have convinced me that whites were created to dominate all other races.
September 6, 200916 yr I see all of you guys saying you wouldn't own slaves, but honestly I believe that if it were legal then everyone of you would (if you could afford it of course).
September 6, 200916 yr I wouldn't have a slave. Every person should be able to make their own decisions for themself. Having another living, breathing, thinking person as property is an alien concept to me. I would try and fight to make it illegal.
September 6, 200916 yr I'd never have a slave. Unless it was a bet or something and only temporary. When you mentioned the Dragon Plates I had a sudden vision of a load of gangsters running around in fancy dress yealling "Grim Reaper in da hood!"
September 6, 200916 yr Only fat white european's have slaves because they can't remember how to lift there own [wagon], let alone do proper work. Well, at least that was in the 1800's  So, I'd be against it. A person is a person and, after seeing District 9, can't stand the thought of treating "less civilised" people like that.
September 7, 200916 yr I would buy slaves, then free them until no one will give me slaves anymore \ Bwahahaha! Beat the system! Balance may be power, but chaos is still pretty damn fun.Canada can't be second rate, polar bears are their main mode of transportation.
September 7, 200916 yr if slavery was never made illegal and I had the money and lived in the south, I'd sure as heck buy enough to help business and compete. Not because i'm an [wagon], but because I'm not so dumb that I don't realize that my value systems would be different in that hypothetical world. I would buy slaves, then free them until no one will give me slaves anymore \ Bwahahaha! Beat the system! If you account for inflation, a slave in the early 1800s would've cost about $40,000. No ones exactly "giving" you slaves. [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

No ones exactly "giving" you slaves. I think they'd cost far more. I mean, I can easily make 60k a year as a labourer. I could buy a fleet of slaves and have them pay themselves off in less than a year:D

September 8, 200916 yr The whole reason that we believe that slavery is wrong is because we have been taught all of our life that it was wrong and that it should never be done. If we had grown up with slavery being legal, we would believe that it is right, and if not right, then acceptable. We would know that there is not much you can do about it, like people who don't agree with smoking. You may not like it, but who are you to say what other's do with their property? If that's true, why did we(America) have a Civil War that nearly tore the country in half? Because the north had no need for slavery. With the Industrial Revolution completely changing the way the Northerner's lived, they no longer needed slaves to work in the fields. As they moved away from owning slaves, the idea that they weren't necessary spread throughout the country. The south still needed slaves for labor, so they continued to keep slaves and pass on the idea to their children. September 9, 200916 yr No. Never. The idea of 'owning' another human being is just not right. And what grounds would you have to discriminate the new fictional people? This is like the 1800's revisited. So maybe they have a different skin color or something... Well we've sadly been there, done that. We should accept everyone as they are, and not discriminate people according to anything. @The people who said yes: I will never understand you lol, you selfish self preserving people. My 2 cents. :) RIP TET "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." - Friedrich Nietzsche
September 13, 200916 yr I would like to say that I would be against it at first, which I probably would, as would a lot of people However, eventually it would just become normal practice and everyone would eventually support it "Probably the worst thing I do is take bubble baths. But manly ones." No matter what the avatar looks like, I'm male
September 13, 200916 yr Trol's idea sounds decent. Thats basically like having a servent or a butler.
September 14, 200916 yr I would, but i would treat them decently, no whipping or starving them. you are truly a good person
September 14, 200916 yr I would like to say I would be against it, but I honestly don't know. Although I don't know what I would use a slave for...
September 14, 200916 yr I would, but i would treat them decently, no whipping or starving them. you are truly a good person  You know, it was only the large plantations that were cruel to their slaves. Most small farms only had 1 or 2 slaves and while they weren't treated like royalty they were treated like human beings. It was the slaves who worked on plantations, particularly those plantations using the gang system, that were treated the cruelest.
