How do you play the game?

Okay, RS is obviously a diverse game, where your focus can lay pretty much anywhere, from skilling to combat to quests to whatever.

I thought it would be interesting to discuss what's the point of the game for you? What do you enjoy doing in the game? What aspect of the game do you think has the most value? Just keep in mind that I'm not asking why you play runescape and how you justify playing hours on end on silly little pixels. That's going off topic.

Is it the:

-quests?

-combat?

-clans?

-skills?

-pking?

-money making? (i.e. all you care about is wealth)

-making online friends?

-others?

Of course that's not an exhaustive list of what you can do, and you're not limited to one thing.. there's some very peculiar things people have focused on in the past in the game. I can't remember his name, but I remember a guy years ago, who would just collect cabbage. He even ended up making a clan for collecting cabbage, and he was pretty well known in RS and on these forums for it.. I think he ended up with millions of cabbage banked. Seems useless to us, but to him, it was something he enjoyed doing so it's all that matters.

And this is a DISCUSSION, so please try to discuss your answers... don't just leave one or two sentence posts.

--------------------------------------------------------

For me personally, I think the only useful skills are combat. I can tell you I will probably never have a 99 in a non-combat related skill (save maybe fishing, but that's because it has an indirect connection to combat), because I find them a waste of time frankly. I find that RS is combat based, and that combat should serve your every need. I think it's one of the best money making skill (whether through slayer or just monster hunting on your own) and definitely the most enjoyable.

All the skills in the game require grinding obviously, but combat is the least predictable... e.g. you have a chance of dying and losing valuable items... the drops are always different, and that adds some sense of entertainment to grinding. You won't find that in any other skill - it's all the same end result.

I also like PKing, although I haven't really pked much since I came back to the game cause I've been focussed on raising my skills... that's tied down to clans, which was my main focus in the game years ago. I will only do quests if they have good rewards or lead to quests with good rewards. Otherwise I won't waste my time doing them.

Okay, now your turns.. go!

Its Clans and Combat, if it wasn't for "Official" Clans, i would've quitted like months ago.

Combat is useful for "Official" Clans because some Clans you need a requirement to join and you want to keep it high so you don't get piled first. ;)

Skills and quests with moneymaking mixed in(combat counts as skills). I think pvp is hosed, I don't need any friends, and sadly my combat stats are not high enough for serious fun. I also enjoy the achievement diaries a lot.

edit: I also enjoy cooking a lot. I like cooking in real life, so I reflect on my passion for it by leveling it in-game.

combat, moneymaking for skilling, skilling for quests, quests for fun, and minigames sometimes

Quests just keep bringing me back to this game.

I "play to pk" as some would say.

Mini games like castle wars also hold a special place in my heart.

I wouldn't see any reason to play if pking were removed, or severely nerfed, and most everything i do (skills, quests, combat, money) is to get money to pk, or to get better stats to pk in.

O.O

Skilling, Slayer, skilling, Slayer, skilling, Slayer. Yeah, sums it up really.

+1, but put questing somewhere in that list too ;) .

I enjoy how the majority of the game can be played with minimal attention (Many skills you can do another things while doing like Fishing and Woodcutting, combat only requires one click and you just sit back and watch as opposed to massive input of keys, etc).

I tend to mostly play while doing other things (Homework mostly).

Playing like this isn't being counter-intuitive, rather you maximize play time and enjoyment time on the computer.

Of course I still engage in things that require me to allocate my attention (Godwars, more tedious skills, quests).

Its a nice feeling to know you can still have a life and play this game, unlike many other MMO's.

I just lost the game...

On topic: My favorite activity is questing. Any time a new quest comes out and my internet is stable enough that I don't need to worry about disconnecting, I'll log on just to do that quest, usually without a guide.

I most probably play for skills and combat  There's just some feeling of accomplishment when you achieve a 99 which you've been putting so much effort for. =D>

I have good enough stats to hybrid PK in whatever method I'd prefer, but I sort of lost my mojo for PKing since wildy was taken out. All I do now is play safe PKing games. I'm not a fan of Soul Wars, unless I'm barraging. Clan Wars I've played a few times, but it's only cool when you have a clan to join. I am in one, but it is a f2p clan and I'm pretty much the best player on it 8-) . As for skill-based minigames like Stealing Creation, I'm practically in love with them. Unfortunately it couldn't be carried with skills I don't want to bother with, like Hunter in Impetuous Impulses, thieving in Sorceress' Garden, Smithing in Blast Furnace (which I still don't know how to play  )

Title made me lose the game -.-

Anyway, I get most of my enjoyment from combat. Either training combat skills (119 cmb), training my 85 slayer, or going in pvp to skill or pk in welfare.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(

That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

tbh i love almost every aspect of this game... the only thing i dont is pk due to i always die from insane specs... and perhaps moneymaking because i prefer skilling for cash.

i just do whatever i feel like doing at the moment and quit when im ready for something else.
