Da Pirates
I believe it should be against the rules to have those "last 5 recently played tracks" things in peoples signatures. I am saying this because I just saw in one of those im someone sig, the had the song "Beck - Today has been a f**ked up day" completely uncensored. Now this doesn't offend me, but this CLEARLY is against the rules of the forum. Discuss. BR BR BR? HUEHUEHEUEHUE
tripsis
I don't think that we should ban the entire "last 5 recently played tracks" thing just because of what one song name COULD include. If you go by that reasoning, we might as well ban all images because people could use images to get around the censor. See what I mean? If you see an image that includes inappropriate words, report it and the moderators will take care of it. But I don't see the need to ban "last 5 recently played tracks" in signatures just because they COULD contain swear words. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Mirror
I understand the reasoning behind both sides, but the point in favor of removing them is because it is a semi-uncontrollable thing. The only way to prevent this is to tell users not to listen to x song or y cd. That goes beyond the powers of the forum. But then if a user does understand the rules and forgets what song is last played, and it shows up, then actions could be taken on the account. I see it as a tricky thing to navigate, but ultimately my choice would be to advise people to watch what they are listening to if they have that sig, in respect of the other users. Then if it gets to that point, and the sig is reported, then so be it. So ultimately, I'm cool with things, just users need to think before they listen... A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.
das
mirror and tripsis said it best. "Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. Johannas
To also add to this, some of the images that are used are over 100kb - which is over the signature file size limit. Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!
Mil
If a signature is over 100kB, just report it and it'll be taken care of. On the other hand, if a signature is exactly equal to 100kB... :D

Shelby_Polo
I don't think it's a big deal to see a curse words on the forums... I doubt there are many 10 year old's here; if there were, they would hear it on TV/school regardless. The only reason we should have the rule is to stop abuse and the distastefulness of cussing. As for the last listened to: If we had to ban that, we could simply remove signatures, since someone can have other pictures in his signature which contain offensive words. Not because I think they are offensive, but because they are reported. And if someone reports them, someone must think it is offensive. dsavi
Since it is one of our crewbies that coded the last.fm signature generator, I'm sure that he would add a censor if you asked him nicely/paid him.
Bauke
Since it is one of our crewbies that coded the last.fm signature generator, I'm sure that he would add a censor if you asked him nicely/paid him. Is that really necessary? Does the signature thingy really need a censor because just a few songs could contain words which are normally blocked by the censor? Come on.. keeping bad language off the forum is ok, but this is overdone. Since it's (probably?) not possible to "bypass" the censor easily (you have to listen to a song which includes a normally blocked word), is it even a problem? I'd say, who gives a ... oh well you know what I mean. Necromagus
I had a... minor problem with this a while ago. When I play the songs on my hard drive, I usually know if something is coming that shouldn't be there. However, I was listening to a Last.FM radio station and when I noticed the song title it was already in my signature. I simply disabled my sig for a while. SportsGuy
Personally, I don't understand why people put all these non-game related things in their signatures. If they want to talk about it somewhere else in the forums, great...but all this junk in people's signatures (what color are you? "WHO CARES!" last five songs listened to? "WHO CARES") I realize when it comes to those things that I'm either in the minority or a silent majority on the subject, but I'm just tired of all the complaints about something so ancillary and unnecessary that doing away with all of it keeps sounding better and better. While no one would suggest listening to music should be against the rules, clearly there is some code involved in taking those song names from the other site or from the person's computer...so I would say this: Until the code is fixed that takes that language or censors that word out of the box, then they're not permitted. If the person wants to listen to whatever the heck they want, that's fine with me. I shouldn't have to read it or even see it if I don't want to. If I go LOOKING for it, that's different. Perhaps mandatory hide tags for signatures of that type or something if someone isn't going to write code that censors if for sensitive eyes/websites. It's not even a freedom of speech thing...I feel like if someone is going to make a big deal about their signature including something that has nothing to do with the game, then they've got a problem with accepting rules...rules they've already agreed to. If they use that signature, they should realize that it is THEIR burden to make sure it doesn't contain foul language...there's attach a signature check boxes below this post I'm writing now. If you're listening to music with foul language in the title, then it's your responsibility, because you chose to add that widget. You don't get to bring a dog to a party and let it off the leash then say it's not your fault they're running amok.
