Warning All Tifers

There's an advertisement on tif that will turn your browser into a pop up like thing, and will tell you that you have spyware and you should go to the site it tells you to get a free scan. DO NOT DO IT. It is in itself a virus. All you have to do is not click anything, other then control+alt+delete, and end the task for that. That way it will go away and nothing will happen, the application won't get a yes or no, (which in either way it does the yes option, which means infecting your computer). I advise all of you to watch out. This has happened to me twice, exactly when trying to view a new topic, and it's not a computer that on my computer. I hope our wonderful Mod+ Administrator staff with fix this shortly.

Watch out!

Already reported it on the "Bad ad" thread.

The site is called "Antimalware.com" or something like that. Be wary.

(To be honest, I'd just shut your computer down and restart if it traps you. Don't click anything!)

EDIT: If you guys can get more information about the ad than I did, please forward the information to an admin. It needs to be quashed, but sadly it comes back after several months.

No need to, just follow my advice, and yes, I've forwarded a warning to Dark Dude, he responded to just report it, but I feel like other users need to know before it hits them as well.

I think they also need a full URL in order to get rid of it. I'm not sure about a safe way to find out the full URL, but if someone knows and can do it, please PM the full URL to an admin.

Unfortunately, I do not know how to get it without being infected. So nobody try it out. I think our intelligent staff can figure it out

EDIT: going to bed so I can't give advice.

Ah, I remember that one. Accidentally clicked "OK" on the dialog once and got a virus. I crushed it like an ant within 5 minutes of getting it. It's really annoying; trying to click "X" will result in a popup dialog box which will give you a virus if you click OK. Usually have to CTRL+ALT+DEL and shut down the firefox process to get rid of it

What I do whenever I get that is just click the arrow near the Back button, then pick a couple pages back from the tif page that made it pop up.

I once clicked on it accidentally, and my computer asked me to download something. I hit no, and used the back-button trick.

Well, it's a good thing I'm not the only one that noticed it. I sure hope it gets taken care of quickly, this is a pretty big deal here.

I've gotten this damn thing +3 times now.

I press the back button, and it showed "Your Computer has a virus! Are you sure you want to exit this page?" IT had cancel to stay and OK to go back. I pressed okay and it sent me back to TIF. I'm not sure if it's given me a virus, but when I get back home from school I'll start up my Anti-Virus and squash it lke the SOaB it is.

Luckily, I have on of the more powerful Anti-Virus programs on the market (ESET NOD32 v.3) and that should obliterate it.. though it hasn't notified me of anything so, again, I'm not sure if I have a virus. (Only bad thing about ESET is that you have to continuously buy subscriptions to get their Virus Database updates, though they come in yearly-increments for, umm, I forgot the price. I haven't bought any since the initial subscription though, and my database is over a month out of date.)

probably one of the most [bleep] annoying ads. i just used adblock plus and blocked everything pertaining to that add.

In this day and age when most things are zero day exploits, out of date anti virus can be just as bad as having no anti virus at all.

I'd be careful anyway because even if you click no it can install keyloggers/viruses.

Well, my various antivirus and atipopup devices seem to have shielded me. So all is well.
