EdgedThesis
Ah, you're right.I just took issue with the 'jobs' part, I guess.I don't know, doing something I love doing and genuinely helping society doesn't seem a part of a frivolous, over-fancy cup. But yes, it isn't meant to over analyze. But I don't want to go among mad people!Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here..."
jemathonical
Well I'd grab the best looking cup too. indy500fan
I like stuff (I am a consumer [bleep]) but I don't really care what other people think about what I have. I guess I do covet what others have though. So I don't know if the analogy still holds or not. It kind of does except for this part: "Now, if Life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups." since I couldn't give a [bleep] about a nice job, money or position in society. Levon_
But just remember, some of the crappier cups will soak through and drop all the contents through the bottom. Interpret that as you will. I laughed so [bleep]ing hard. But yeah wow that's interesting It's great you know what you're talking about rustiod. Everything you've said is 100% accurate a true. That being said...your a [bleep]ing [bleep] douchebag, and none of your advice will ever (or should ever) be taken seriously because of it.disregard good advice because the giver is a douche THAT MAKES YOU A BETTER PERSON

Riku3220
I'm trying to figure out what would be the "golden mug encrusted with various jewels" cup. Wouldn't that be different depending on who was drinking the coffee? To some it'd be about having fun with no consequences or responsibilities and for others it would just be surviving. dsavi
That analogy was really corny and didn't even make sense. How can you be happy if you don't have a job to not pay for the food you eat? Maybe Lenin's low-quality cup analogy applies there.

How can you be happy if you don't have a job to not pay for the food you eat? Maybe Lenin's low-quality cup analogy applies there. You obviously didn't "get" the analogy. It was never about going jobless or even about going with "stuff". It was about enjoying life (coffee) and not worrying about the much less meaninful things that are in your life (the cup). People in the story chose only the best cups, whereas they all just wanted the coffee so why did the cup matter? And to other people, quit over analyzing it and comparing it to a situation in real life. The goal of the analogy is to make a point; don't pick it a part and see if it works for everyone's ideas and values. It just has a simple point, and that is all. The point being enjoy life and don't worry about the cup? The cup being jobs, possessions and so on? Yeah..That's a great lesson to teach people. That they don't need to worry about how they'll support their life as long as they enjoy it. The thing is, your quality of life does now depend on jobs, money and social standing. If not, then what is there to enjoy? Denizen of Darkness| PSN= sworddude198
