beat me to it <_<

I was looking forward to global warming. Then we hit a new record this year for coldest winter, 2nd coldest place in the world now  next to a small town in russia or siberia can't remmber its name  , -50 something degrees C. I threw away my sun tan lotion then and went shopping for parkas and sled dogs.

And this mean we are going to have another global warming debate? Don't actually remember seeing anything about the climate gate scandal on tip it yet.

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!

Weird, here in Atlantic Canada, instead of having the usual -20°C/-25°C, we have temperatures such as -5°C to 10°C. There's only 30cm of snow on the ground and the blizzard that we were supposed to have and that would have added 55cm of snow all fell in rain... Like wtf, rain in January? I've only seen that once in the past. Also means we can't drive our cars on the rivers either since the ice is still too thin..

If my calculations are right, -17 C is between 0 and 10 Fahrenheit? It's been about the same here, at least in the mornings. Really [bleep]ing cold. Well, in the wind it's bad. After you've felt the wind, the cold that's just standing is nowhere near as bad.

According to the calculator I just used it is 1.4 Fahrenheit. To be fair it is never usually like this, we might get a -5 or even a -10 at most during the winter (except up in the mountains) but -17 is pretty extreme for Britain.

It's apparently a cold winter everywhere.

Ugh for the last 3 days the Sun has been pounding me with rays, rare days here when you can't wear sandals outside.

Wongton is better than me in anyway~~

Got a low as -21C (-6F) in Britain last night which is a bit chilly for us. Apparently the weather the UK should have in winter is currently hanging over Greenland (they have seen temperatures as high as +12C) and Arctic Canada because of an immovable pressure system we have acquired from Scandinavia.

1. Climate change. Not global warming.

2. Singular events don't disprove trends. Weather and climate aren't synonyms, therefore snow doesn't mean colder climate.

1. Well kind of. Global warming would make many northern countries get colder because the melting ice causing cold air to go south. The globe is still getting warmer on average, so it is global warming.

2. You are right there, even if my number one wasn't right Great Britain having a big snow doesn't disprove global warming at all.

Yeah well to be hones the "It's the coldest winter here in years" kind of arguemnt used to counter climate change is probably the weakest off all the counter arguments.

It's been a dismal summer here.

[bleep]ing dismal infact.

Consistently for the last few years, I had to violently pour the nearest liquid down my shorts to prevent horrible bodily malfunction. Not like a Australian summer at all. I dont think even a single day has gone above 30 C, mabe 35 C. And it's been grey too. Overcast, cloudy, windy, etcetera. Not fun.

Not to mention it was predicted that climate would might bring cold to Europe.

Anyway, suddenly 2 cm of snow and -3° C doesn't sound that bad. You just made my day.

This signature is intentionally left blank.

I reckon the weather overall, summer and winter, has become cooler here in Britain. It's not just independent events, it feels like the climate is getting colder here.

Amazing picture, truly amazing.

As for the whole climate change thing, well I believe its a natural cycle. Ice ages come and go we might be speeding the process up a little, but its just a matter of time until it sorts itself out.

I also believe its only a matter of time until something wipes out a vast majority of the population. Every few thousand years there's a period of enlightenment (so to speak) where by technology advances to extreme levels. This lasts for a few hundred years then it gets completely lost. We've had that for about 400 years which leaves us only a few more hundred until we wipe ourselves out or nature does.

O we only have a we years until skynet anyway so why is everyone worried about a few degrees of heat when the T's will be after us soon enough.

To anyone who has strong opinions on global warming. I've said this other places before; whether global warming exists or not we have an energy problem now. If we can move to clean energy, we can stop global warming, again whether it exists or not.

So why not instead of wasting time debating over a problem that has an amount of unsureness, try to solve a problem that undoubtedly exists and will fix the other problem? Two birds with one stone. No, three birds. Our energy problem, global warming, and meaningless debate.

Yeah, a few inches of snow is enough to completely and utterly shatter England's transport system.

If global warming does occur, it could upset the gulf stream, and Britain will become an iceberg, right?

2Xeo5.png

Is this thread snark? Or are global warming deniers getting dumber by the minute?

I know there is a difference between weather and climate, but whenever there is a hot spell in summer there are always scientists on the news saying that it is global warming at work, now that it is really cold they come on and say global warming does not really affect the weather on a day to day basis.

Yeah, a few inches of snow is enough to completely and utterly shatter England's transport system.

Indeed with the exception of Scotland, Britain just is not equipped for snow because it's rare we ever have this much. Perhaps the government will think it worthwhile to invest in now :)

And yes, Britain will become similar to Scandinavia climate-wise as a result of climate change it will shut down the Gulf Stream which is where we get all our heat from.

It was -22.3 C last night in Cheshire.

I like the snow, and that picture is epic - i saw it on the BBC website earlier

Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!

Looks nice, but for us English it means transport systems become lax, workers 'can't' make their way to work, so a lot of things stop. We aren't really suited to deal with snow in this country.

You're right you guys in England are wimpy about the snow, up here we tend to deal with it like real men  . Only in Scotland would a guy still to the pub in just a shortsleeve shirt (the guy passed my house last night). That being said, it is a pain in the backside, I just hope the train and bus I need on Monday is running.

Edit - Nick, somewhere in the UK it was -17 celcius. I would say that was cold.

Depends on what area in Scotland you are in.

In Edinburgh, it's definitely warm enough for a t-shirt for me. Though perhaps that's just me, around where I live, it's definitely colder, as well as where my mate lives. I wouldn't say it's because of my body fat, I have practically none.

Thankfully, I don't live in the worst hit areas, I was able to go out in what I've been wearing for months.

My grampa lectured me for fifteen minutes about how south england isn't supposed to get snow, and about how his friends in, I forget the place, but it's in south england, must be really mad.

That's quite a beautiful picture of England. I can't see any cities though. Not that I'd know where they are on the island.

It started snowing again when i left my friends house about two hours ago. Still forecast for these conditions for another week i think.

Scotland may be coping better than England but some places are still pretty rough. Some of the main roads to my house are still frozen and the small streets in housing areas are hellish. Heading back to the capital sometime this weekend so we'll see if Edinburgh city council have coped better than my hometowns.

I must say, this cold weather is quite annoying. I need it to get warm so I can go out on my motorbike :).

Tough times don't last. Tough people do.

Snow is no big deal to me, but damn, most pavements are completely engulfed by 2 inch thick ice and I have to walk 200m to get to a bus stop to get to a exam. [bleep] exams, I'm staying home.

It's snowy here too, but not as bad as in England. Most snow has already melted and what's left now is a very small (1 cm) layer of snowy ice, which is unevenly spread out over the sidewalks. So basically, we have the bad parts of cold weather (frikkin' cold weather) and no snow to show for it >.<

The snow was amazing in Yorkshire where I live but since coming back to uni in Cambridgeshire it's a bit of a let down. We're supposed to get it heavy today but it doesn't really look like it. It's a pain if it stops you getting anywhere but it makes everything look so much better and made the whole Christmas holidays pretty special.

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

That's pretty damn cool...we didn't get as much in Ireland though <_<

Cambridgeshire was disapointing. Everywhere else in the country seemed to be having snow, and all we had were 5 minute showers. I was crossing my fingers for an E-mail from the university saying they were cancelling lectures this week, but alas, no joy <_< .
