Well. I went on, checked out the 1800+ sections, saw that 50% of the posts were still trolls. Its probably been like a year since I even clicked on the RSOF forums, and now I'm planning on next years visit.

I guess we can now see who spams up the RSOF more - 1000+ F2Pers, 0-1400 Members, 1400-1800 Members, or 1800+ Members.

I'd like to bet its not anyone with 1000+ in stats...

Heh, I highly doubt that.

My bets are on the 1800+ Members whining the most.

As for my opinion on the forum changes... *meh* They don't effect me really, since I never go to the RSOF.

It makes no sense to me to split up community. I was always taught communities are to bring people together, not separate them?

Not a big fan of this update. My suggestion thread, which is pretty much the only reason I ever log in to the forums, was deleted. They say they're looking at the important suggestions, but I really wish they had warned us so that we could've copied our threads down.

I agree. My thread was also deleted, which is complete crap. I don't think I'll ever visit the RSOF again. Less spam, more formatting and control, better community, better mods on TIF. Thanks TIF!

It makes no sense to me to split up community. I was always taught communities are to bring people together, not separate them?

Think of it this way. Before, there were no "communities" only one large, united Runescape.

Now, we have groups of players with similar stats and more similar iterests.

We aren't "splitting up" communities with this update, the OLD system was a division of communities.

There are still places where people aren't divided. The communities that are divided, such as "Tactics", can now be more focused on issues that are relevant to a certain group. Level 1800+ players don't want to see tactics for how to defeat the awesomely challenging KBD. Similarly, free players dont want to see tactics for GWD.

At least, thats my understanding of the idea.

Also, you cant post on one forum and then another right after. So much for bringing the community together, imagine if level 1800+ members couldn't post on threads made by F2P players on Tip.It. I guess we have another reason for Tip.It to be better then RSOF besides the trolls.

PM me in game anytime

It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet.

That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.

Ok, so in basic terms, rather than grouping the people they are instead focusing on grouping the ideas? That would make sense, I guess the part that makes no sense is the off topic section. Why would it depend if you are a member or not affect your opinion and thoughts about something not dealing with the game?

But thanks for the help in clarifying it, it helped me out. :)

RSOF was usually full of two things.

New and younger players being trolls because they know no better.

Older and higher level players being trolls because they want to.

It is still the same, except now they do it in two different places.

Why did they remove the country-specific forums? There were actually some intellectual conversation at times. This seems like a poor solution for not getting more mods and being more strict with off-topic and trolls.

Yeah, it doesn't really make any sense to split Off-topic into level-based sections.

No direct affect on me since I only use RSOF for Canada's penguin threads. I can see how this will for one, confuse a lot of people, and two, frustrate and put a lot of people off from using them again.

I feel it needlessly splits the community. Then again, I'm not an avid user of RSOF these days, so it doesn't really affect me.

this. exactly this. Jagex has recognized that the lower level players are the most immature on average, their average age is also vastly lower than 1800+, or even 2000+. I would never dream of posting on the old RSOF, because i know that my posts would drown in spam, never recieving a serious reply.

With the new system, jagex might actually regain some senior members on their forums, which cannot be a bad thing, and integrate the lower leveled communities with eachother: these are the players who have the most activities in common, and can mutually (possibly symbiotically) learn from the experience. being told what you "should do" from an older, more experienced player does not develop your understanding of the game, or your social understanding; rather, many become dependent on external advice, instead of learning to use the insane amounts of information available on officially recognized fansites, and in the Knowledge base.

We'll see how it develops, but my initial, shallow reaction is one of definate improvement. With a 2000+ or 2200+ community accessible in addition to another group, RSOF may produce constructive feedback from jagex where it matters: where the Jmods read.

Willing to bet Mod Kathy is the kind of person who wouldn't even think about playing runescape. "God I hate this job, have to keep these stupid kids in line for this stupid game."

Kathy is actually working with Timbo on the Jagex Cups, and has been very helpful collaborating with the clan leaders. She's probably just stressed because of yet another overwhelmingly negative reaction to a Jagex update.

Defenses aside, this latest update has just turned me off to the RSOF, I'll still keep up with the Clan Leader forum, but the rest it seems Tip.it tops everything now, including the RSOF.

Mod Kathy on the forums is being a little [bleep]. She keeps asking people to "explain the reasons why you want future updates back?" And then saying "we aren't going to bring it back, but keep trying".

This was a half-baked fix to a broken forum system.

Rather than getting a decent forum package that could sustain their activity and help]. them enforce a minimum quality in posts by enforcing their own rules, they split up the community so they don't have to worry about so many people.

I'm more than a little upset. I suppose if this is the first step they have to take to fixing their systems, it's all well and good...but if this is any indication on how they intend to solve these issues...Well, RIP RSOF.

The 50+ page monster still exists, spam is still abundant, trolling is a given, there's no effective way to report rule breaking posts, and so on. This fixes almost nothing.
