Saru Inc
*Disclaimer* This topic has nothing to do with my RS name, I was just sick of people calling me stupid names like "lrn2" or "Noes" I am Saru :} *Disclaimer* Anyways. I am currently chinning to 99 Range, and 99 Hp. After that not only will I have 5 99's, but also 90+ Agility, Mining, and Hunting. Now thats not all that good, I mean I don't even have 99 Melees yet. But more often than not, I sit and contemplate about what I've become. When I think of myself, I see a kid with a legends cape, barrow gloves, rune plate and legs, a slayer mask and whip. Longing to have amazing 99 Capes like Agility, Runecrafting, Farming and Construction. Playing non stop to achieve new levels and new abilities. I remember on Saruman44 when I achieved 60 Farming I felt so proud of myself, despite the level of nerdiness in that statement, I still feel proud in a sense. Now, I just got 95 Ranging, and am 130k til 96 Ranging. And it doesn't even mean anything. And I know when I get 99 Ranging and HP, it won't mean anything. And to be frank, that upsets me. I know its not the fact "I'm "cheating" training, that's irrelevant. But I feel like every level I get I am getting closer to maxing. And I don't want that. I honestly don't recognize this character I have, I don't say that to sound pseudo-intellectual, or "philosophical" it's like I'm watching a video of my account. *Thus the title name* Its become this mundane feeling perpetuating my Runescape lifestyle, I've become numb to it. I think it's because I don't want to accept the fact that despite I have a long way to go to all 99s, well... Here's a story I started playing in Sept/Oct of '01, though I didn't play very often. I started playing "hardcore" around early '03. Ever since Runescape has literally been the only video game I play. Despite the graphics being subpar, the player base asinine, and the creators leaving us wondering how they could have survived such a blow to their heads when they were newly born; there's still something that has drawn me to the game. And frankly, it's not the community. It's the idea that everything I do brings me closer to my goal. Everything matters. And that is why I play this game so fervently, it's not because a lack of interpersonal relationships, or a troll-esque demeanor/appearence irl (Despite what I allude to online  ) it's that I crave a sense of accomplishment, I literally cannot sleep unless I know I have done something. And so I would work non stop on anyway to achieve my goals, whether its doing over 4,800+ runs of barrows, to mining gold and running agility laps for hours. But I see the end coming near. And like an amazing movie, vacation or friendship, I dread the end like wall that I can't stop from running into. What will I do? I'm pretty sure with max rc, and max Slayer, I will have plenty of money. And I don't like playing for fun. The endgame achievement will come, and I will be stuck like a deer in life's headlights, and I'm scared that I won't know what to do. Will I make a new account? Find a new game? The fun truly is in the journey, no matter how corny or hallmark-ish it sounds. And I will admit that, there is NOTHING fun about clicking a rock thousands of times, the monotony of it creeping into the fibers of my beings. But what I revel in as stated earlier, is the look of 100,000 little gold ore. Or 300,000 more experience in my Agility. What will I do when I get all 99s? Including 120 Dungeoneering, and 2bil or so bank. I don't fancy doing something just for xp, or ranks in the highscores. Call me reclusive, but I don't care about my standing among my peers, though I don't blame you if you see the correlation between my addiction to achievements, and jump to the conclusion I do care. Heh. That statement reminded me of this: [spoiler=Praise God for Office Space] Anyways. This post has gone on long enough, heh heh. Let me sum it up if you've not come to the same conclusion I have. How do you feel like maxing? Do you think in general people should look forward to it or not? Are you dreading it, welcoming it. Etc. Discuss your feelings in general about it. *I feel this thread belongs in General Discussion instead of Questionnaires, because most questionnaires involve one word answers, with little debate and I do hope this thread causes more than that. Heh.* *Also, I am not trolling/being sarcastic in this thread. Take a picture, not sure if you'll ever see another one like this again :XD: teehee.* I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. magzar
tl;dr lrn2....something but seriously, i think it varies from person to person greatly. Some people play to PK so they won't care when they max and they'll go right along. Same thing for people who care more about their cashpile. I do dread maxing though, although i doubt i ever will. I think at that point i would quit for awhile and only play holiday events. One there's a list of 20 or thirty new quests I'd log on and do those then probably quit again. Once you've maxed stats, completed every quest, unlocked every piece of content and completed it, I really don't know what's left. For those who have multiple accounts I guess they think differently, but I play on just one. Personally I'll be sad the day I do max because I've been playing since about the end of January 01 which makes me one of the oldest active players around. I imagine it will be something like losing a friend who's been in your life for a long time. I'm definitely not looking forward to it. [hide]Damnit, I tripped over Magzar's half inflated blow-up doll and hurt myself. I wish he wouldn't leave that thing lying around. -.-[/hide]

la la la
I'll always be the level 92 combat, high runecraft person that I was when I created my signature. I was just looking at my stats the other day and wondered how I maxed attack and hitpoints. I still don't even like combat. So I bought 400k p ess to finish the goal I've been pursuing for so long. At level 95 rc, I have a while before I start to see the wall.
Dragonkng198
Honest to gods truth, I'm on the last stretch from 98-99 slayer, and I don't want it to end. I'll still slay because I enjoy it, its my favourite skill and one of the things I enjoy doing in Runescape, but the knowledge that I'm actually nearing the end of the journey is almost depressing [hide=Stats] [/hide]
Demoli
What a I? I am error. With that out of the way:Honest to gods truth, I'm on the last stretch from 98-99 slayer, and I don't want it to end. I'll still slay because I enjoy it, its my favourite skill and one of the things I enjoy doing in Runescape, but the knowledge that I'm actually nearing the end of the journey is almost depressing This is happening to me, but with defence. Since i started playing runescape i always had the goal to have 99 defence. Now i am 98 and as much as i know i will get it in no time, i don't want to. The end is a scary thing, and while some go heads first without thinking, other stop, ponder, and don't see anything past it. Quite honestly, i now look forward to most saturdays simply for TET events moer than anything else. I blame monster hunter.
Tsar
What am I?I will always remember myself as that guy in 100esque combat, wearing a green partyhat all day long, in guthix rune armour, prancing the lands of F2P. Idyllic. But the reality is a stark opposite. A 130esque combat, bandos-wearing, no-partyhat guy with multiple 99s, a ridiculous amount of stuff in his bank, tons of loose ends that DESPERATELY crave completion, yet a mind-numbing dread towards actually doing it. When I see all these people, who have maxed out in 2, 3 years, I can't help to fall into a deep thought, pondering "Why can't I max my stats in even 8 years (!!!), while some douchebag out there is doing it in 2, playing the same amount daily as me?" ... Honestly, that is just depressing. I've never been good at income, the only real income source, with which I had built up all my assets - live merchanting - was taken away with the coming of the GE. I've yet to learn how to properly take advantage of it, despite it being around for several years now. So they say I should go to barrows, or GWD, or corp. And truth be told, I cannot. Cause I'm a fumble-fingers. I can't operate at the same speed as is necessary to survive down there. Sometimes I lock up at intense situations... blurry, tunnel vision, heart pummeling, etc. I then have to abandon what I'm doing. So currently, I am forced to rely on my skills for the income. Despite being 80+ in almost every stat, skilling is an inferior, horrid way. Guy gets a hilt in GWD, BAM! 20M in his pocket. I have to slave for a week, possibly two, to get the same. I can therefore never afford the most expensive 99's out there, herblore and prayer. And y'know what... I don't care. In my heart, I'll always be that green phat F2P guy. Slow, and cautious, yet cowardly. Will I ever max out? No. But it's a fun ride, and that's all that matters to me.
D Jay99
I'm nearly 2.3k total now and still don't feel high level. I don't get why some people love my stats as I'm still not satisfied with them, but on the other hand I honestly can't be bothered to train them anymore. I won't really feel like monster hunting either until I've at least finished 90+, but I have no idea what I would do with monsterhunting profits. Mostly been on just for farm runs as of late, feel like slaying but already maxed that so I would get bored of that pretty quickly. Probably just have to finish 90 rc so I have money to finish most of 90+, but really really don't feel like that. No idea if this is even relevant to the topic but I just wanted to say this lol.Current situation sucks :P
svs
2001? I thought rs got released in 2003, have i really been playing 9 years instead of 7? Gee, that's crazy! And i only got two 99's, well i did spend 50% of my time writing guides and mapping areas so that explains it. My goal was to get 99 magic for as long as i can remember and with my reputation back in the days i received a lot of donations (/ego lol)When i got close to 99 i didn't want to get it so i stayed 98 for 2 year, when i started training again Jagex implented trade limit and i could no longer hold a drop party :(So i then i postponed getting 99 even further for like another year then i eventually got it didn't felt like a big achievement as the last level went faster than going from lets say 81-82 due to all the magic updated and much much much cheaper blood runes lal -.- Ever since then i trained my skills steadely which i regret now because of the effigies, all my stats are near 70/80 but i don't have lots of 90+ actually all the 90+ i have are useless for effigies.Going for max combat now i always loved combat whether it be trough ranged melee or magic, i wonder what i'll do when i'm maxed combat. Mio
To be honest, as soon as I max (It will never happen... I've had this account since 2003 and I'm not even close, I'm into casual gaming.) I will proberly do the things i've always wanted to do such as solo a few things, but eventually things will lose it's novelty and I will eventually quit for good. But like every other video game, when you complete it sometimes you go back and start a new game and complete it all over again, in this case, create a new character and play again, just for the fun of it, Re-doing all those quests and making new friends. tl;dr - It's just like completing a story line in a different game, Sometimes you go back and start the story line again. In this case, create a new character after maxing. Well thats my opinion on the matter.
Obtaurian
I've just recently decided that maxing total is my goal in Runescape. I have 99 Slayer and I'm VERY close to maxed combat, after that I'll be going for 99 Runecrafting. Once I get 99 Runecrafting out of the way, I'll be home free. But there's a lot more that I want to do in Runescape, like get 4k chompy kills, get 100 fire capes (because why not?), get profound armor and a professional cape from CW, etc, etc. I have years of stuff to do on my account before I can say that I've beaten Runescape. I love this game. I love reaching my goals, but I love the journey more than anything. It's really weird, cause it's not like it's fun 24/7, but there's something about it that I like. To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.
Low C
I found the game to be easier to burn myself out on when I grinded levels. Now I'm slaying for a couple hours each night after work and occasionally monster hunting on the weekends when I dont have plans and I love it more than ever. I think slowing my pace at this point in my time of playing rs has made the game more relaxing and if I do ever become bored of all the other skills in rs I'll work on 200m fishing and slayer as they are my favorite skills. And I thought it was a nice read saru, does have discussion value so I don't think it belongs in questionaires.
transcript80
I Think I don't have to bother thinking about maxing, since it's not goin to happen anytime soon. For the people who are near maxing their skills, there's enough content that can be completed, like getting a (or multiple) fire cape(s), and especially in activities such as trouble brewing (clothes) and castle wars (just updated with new achievement stuff), PC (getting all void stuff), MA (rings imbued) and the "elusive" chompy hat for 4k kills. Sure, getting all 99's is the major goal in RS for most people, but there is so much more. As for me: I slay my days in combat, farming on the side, gathering my dailies, MTK on the side and, my latest addiction: The stone statue in the Varrock museum. This is a nice incentive to train all skills to SOME extent every week. Hell, it's the only reason why I train skills like hunter, agility and firemaking at all. At the leisurerly pace I 'scape in today, maxing all skills is a far far away milestone, let alone finishing all the content described above. Other data was removed when acoount got hacked... Cassynder
Nothing's stopping you from training skills after 99. Go for 20M experience in all skills or something.
Jacks0n
Dude, you just helped me write an essay. Aaaanyways for me, I love that sense of acomplishment :) I love being able to go into the clan chat and go "w00t 96 farming!@" and then everyone goes "grats!!!". That "grats!!!" makes my day, man. That's why I always grats people 'cause I hope they feel the same way ^^ I'll never be rich. You know me. I just dump all my money intp skills, and leave it at that. I don't think I'm gonna max, but I reckon I'll get fairly close. IRL stuff will just catch up with me, I'll get a job, do more soccer trainings, get a gf, hang out with people. (I'm only 14 people, this is the good days I'm living in!!) A skill like 99 agility I wont get 'cause I just cant stand it lmfao. Then again a skill like Farming I just love 'cause there's no real easy way around it. I love seeing the experience add on every day, it's just friggin sweet@@@ Skills like cooking and fletching and firemaking, which I already have, I loved. Firemaking was awesome. I starting in March '06, as an 11 year old, in Year 6. I got 99 firemaking November 2007, as a year 7. Yeah, I spend alot of time as a 12 year old burning logs on rs! Pro rite?! Cooking and fletching were aweosme :P Cooking I did tuna to like 92, swordies 'till w/e level it is for no-burn sharks, then no-burn sharks to 99. For fletching I did magic longbow's (u) with sc knives. They were quick skills, yeah, but the best bit was when someone was like "grats! yes I actually see you have achieved something and would like to congradulate you!" When I get 99 farming it will probably be one of the best feelings in my life, when I go to my friends "wooo 99 farming!!" and they go "grats! youve been working so hard on it! <3:" So saru, I'm Jax, and you're Saru. <3: [/life story] ~[Blog]~[CrystalMathLabs]~[Last.fm]~
D Jay99
quoooooteLol farming I'm surprised how many people even mention maxing here, I'd say I'm kinda close but I wouldn't even consider doing it. You have to be pretty hardcore to train at least 4 or something skills you hate to 99 just to have that done.
