Where's the Excitement?

Well, today, after what seems like years of Slaying, I obtained my first whip, now if this'd happened a few years ago, I would have gone crazy, spammed my chat, spammed my friends, maybe made a few posts here being all happy. But instead, I shrugged it off, said #1 into my chat and replied Whip when asked what that meant. That's all there was to it. The last drop I've gotten that has had something of an effect, my Visage, was a one comment thing and a one liner/one picture blog entry. Past that, nothing. Hell, I remember the first time I got a Maul, I was ten times happier than my Visage. Maybe it's the fact that I have much more GP than just a pitiful 3M. But I don't remember getting a Maul until I had 10M sitting there, Mauls being worth 300k or somewhere near that.

So, has anyone got the same problem as me? Has the excitement of good drops worn off for you? Does anything make you happy in RuneScape anymore?

Take a look at my signature. Now add 7 solo Claws, FFA Divine and Arcane, and countless Slayer drops. Yes, the excitement has worn off a lot, however any good drop will still elicit at least a smile and screenshot from me. A far cry however, from the first few months of GWD. I told my friends that if I ever soloed a Hilt, I would blow the roof off my house screaming. The pressure built until December 2007 when the words "take Armadyl Hilt" appeared on my screen. As soon as I safely teled, I screamed so loud and for so long the neighbors probably wondered what was going on. I have now soloed 12 Hilts.

Anything that makes me more powerful in PVM makes me happy. I remember when Summoning was finally released, and I could increase the 126 above my head, I ran around the house screaming for a couple of minutes, then took rank 14 after 3 days. The old excitement can still be brought back by something unexpected though, like my 1 Visage from a recent Black Drag task. However, if I'm doing something like GWD or Corp the Hilts/Armor/Sigils are at the forefront of my mind instead of off in the back of my mind, like Visage at Black Drags.

Anything thats rare, makes my heart flutter. Just like that bandos hilt. After months at LS Bandos, with nub gear, I managed to get it. Heck, I nearly had a heart attack if I didn't stop jumping up and down. Theres always excitement in runescape, whether its from dieing while carrying 100m+ and reaching your grave in time, or from getting 3rd Age Armor from clue scroll. The chance of getting 3rd age item might be a bit higher after this weeks update though. :shades:

i think that it depends

when sols came out they were 10m and i didnt have a firecape so i slayed for points then bought the task and the sol drop was more like a whip even though it was worth 10m gp i was like eh cuz i knew same rarity as whip

when i was going for 99 magic and got a visage i was like "omg##########" as that has a rarity

When camping a boss monster drops are kinda expected so people count up thier dry streaks but the drops especccially on solo are pretty exciting

I was happy when i got a sol after 7 dry task and im happy when i get 2 effigys pretty close to eachother.

usually on slayer when i get a whip it still brings a smile and if i get a darkbow after idk how many dry task i'll be happy

but on slayer i also expect drops so its more like "aw no whiP"

I think that drops are more exciting when not expecting anything if you think "ill get a whip this task" and get 1 whip youll be like meh not exciting if you think "cool abbies" and thene get a whip its like NICE i was super excited one task a lonnng time ago i had 3 whips but i havent had a double whip task in ages lol

If I get 3+ whips in a few trips to abby demons it's exciting, but other than that my luck is horrible. I actually went 10 ice strykewyrm tasks (1,200++ of them) with no staff of light drop. Now if you consider how long it takes to kill them, that's a LOT of kills. I was expecting 1-3 sols on my next few ice wyrm tasks just because I had killed so many without any luck. Finally I got a sol the next task, and then another after that. By then when they dropped all I could say was 'o about time' when I took the screenshots.

Sometimes after a ton of kills with no good drops, I start to expect drops, and when I finally get those drops I just go, o ... FINALLY a good drop. The excitement definitely has gone. I don't know whether it's because the good monsters to kill (abby demons for example) are now way more crowded these days, or whether it's because the drop rate of things are so unpredictable.

Either that or we need more slayer monsters, in the level 95++ slayer bracket ';...;' :D

The excitement's still there, but it just moves around the game a bit. Whips are always a good drop, but they're more like a small leg up in the financial side of things. If you want the punch the air go crazy moment, then it's a 3rd Age clue drop, GWD, Jad, Corp Beast, or maybe a triple chest at Barrows.

God I still remember how I freaked out when I saw my first visage, and to be honest, the second visage I freaked out even more. Every 1M+ drop/clue still makes me scream YES irl L

For me, it kinda depends on the creature I'm fighting.

Spirit mages, you can more or less expect at least one pair of d boots every task/other task, so seeing those is just... "oh look, 500k" sort of thing for me.

Abby demons, I still grin whenever I get a whip (and to a lesser extent, fero rings, since I enjoy collecting and tallying those).

Cave horrors, I've gotten several masks from, but if I got the urge to go camp them for a bit, I'd probably smile once I got one - after all, if you're expecting a drop, it doesn't really matter what it is, it still doesn't have that big of an effect on you.

Black/metal dragons and visages/dragon platelegs/skirt - obviously visage will still make me freak out, although the chances of me getting another one is impossibly slim. I just smirk when I see dragon plateskirt, though - same sort of deal with d med and spear. Platelegs I'm happy to get, since they're more valuable and I do smile seeing those.

Barrows, since I've gotten one of every armor piece, and still no weapons except maybe ahrim staff or something, plus I don't go barrows that often, would entice a smile from me and maybe a little cheer, regardless of the value of the item in question. In this case, it's the thrill of a rare item, not the value of said item, that makes me happy.

Yeah, I'd have to say that my excitement level has gone down with multiple slayer drops and a buildup of my bank worth, but I still get excited when I get a rare item.

I will admit, however, my remark upon getting my first focus sight after god knows how many tasks was to the effect of: it's about bloody time! (considering I've been going near 1:1 ratio for jungle wyrm task:hexcrest)

Same deal with effigies, I would cheer if I ever get my second one.

I always do a victory fist pump when I see an abyssal whip, staff of light, or dark bow on the ground. I laughed hysterically when I saw my first pair of solo claws appear. I laughed hysterically some more when the same thing happened a couple weeks later.

I'd probably run around the block if I got a solo Arma or Sara hilt. I'd probably have a seizure if I got an FFA or LS'd divine sigil.

The excitement is still there for me.

My excitement died when I noticed after 9 years, the only drop I ever got was a d chain @ Dusties, back in 2008. I think my luck only happens each 6 years or so, so I gave up hoping for a drop.

Especially since no one will take me to bosses because I cant afford 10,000 whips and full bandos etc

After Divine, I don't really care to even do GWD anymore. Got so many Bandos drops since from duo and FFA that I just shrug them off. Lol.

Unless it's another 529M, I couldn't care less. :P

EDIT: Actually, I did get excited for a drop yesterday! Was going for a green dragon egg and got an addy full helm as a drop. Went, "Yeah! Finally got an e.. Damn it!" But the very next kill was the egg, so I got excited. :P.

The most I've had is 3.4m last may. Yeah, I get excited about good drops.

Many believe that the 1980 eruption of Mt. Saint Helens was a catostrophic geological event, in reality it was the day that Jimi Hendrix returned to Earth from the next world and actually stood up next to a mountain and chopped it down with the edge of his hand.

I got that with my divine drop- everyone around me went crazy and even on forums, people were in awe, and still to this day, people get all exited about FFA/solo sigils, but i just shrugged it off, it didn't even add significantly to my networth and was another check in my achievement list. Now ofcource, ely/divine drops are still jaw-dropping for most monster hunters, so that's what they should shoot for, a whip drop has never really been exiting as they don't require skill to accumulate, just hours of training.

I still get kinda excited on new items generally but higher the better. Like sol was fun to get and even killing the jungle/desert ones for the parts of slayer helm. However it wears off as soon as I get like 2 or more. Infact I generally start getting P'd off due to merchanters making market go wacky and having to make choices myself on what is best to do.

I think the only real drop I havnt had is a visage so that one would excite me.

Slayer drops never excited me too much because slayer is a fairly mundane skill, albeit one that I have put a lot of time into. They come with more of a sense of satisfaction than excitement, at least to me.

Never had a drop at corp, but hilts still excite me :P

It's funny the way things work

I was Dking yesterday and got an axe - I barely cared and immediately banked it with my Yak

Then I got a zerker, and got pretty excited about that.

It depends on the drop.

Dclaws still surprise me and can make my day.

I guess it really boils down to your expectations. On a DK trip I expect to get at least 1 axe; on TD trips I expect to get nothing.
