It's possible your save might've corrupted or something. Like when you turn off your Game Boy while saving in Pokemon.
Dizzle229
Seems to be the most likely explanation. Anyways, I'm going to try a new world, but do what my friend is doing. Keep generating worlds until I start on a small island, surrounded by other islands. Then, go to those islands and STEAL EVERYTHING! Kill the animals, cut down the trees, knock out the branches to grow more trees, and steal the dirt stone and sand. Then bring it all back to the starting island and make it grow. Plant torches so nothing can spawn on the island, and just slowly become a mega-continent by absorbing all the other islands. Get back here so I can rub your butt. Peregrine
Tutorial on restoring missing (corrupted) worlds Good luck, that happened to me and I was kinda bummed. I followed this method and everything worked fine. You'll have to change your spawn point back, your inventory is lost, but your world should be saved. The only thing that was wrong with my world was that two chunks were obliterated from the map. Unfortunately, those two chunks were near my house. :3[hide=Pictures of the corrupted chunks] Funny thing is, this functioned very nicely as a high-dive. It even had a ladder all the way back up and a 'diving board', too. :3[/hide] Ended up writing a batch file that prompts me if I want to backup my saves whenever I run minecraft. Anyway, after the biomes update, I figured I would start a new world and see how things looked. Loaded one up, spawned in a small desert with some woodland and hills around.I was dissapointed. Then I walked over a hill and saw the following. Guess where I decided to settle? One-Clicking the Summer Garden[AOW]
LinkOlaran
Well now, that is a cool cave system >.> I personally just started a new world, too. Specifically kept spawning worlds till I got one that started me off in a desert. I wanted to build stuff there, for some reason, and wanted my spawn there too, so... anyway, got the world I wanted. Was a 10-20 second walk just to find a tree >.> couldn't find any coal at all on the first day, spent the night hiding in a tree. Next morning, found a tiny cave with a bit of coal and iron in it, took it back and started a small cave. That night, I learn I have a spider problem >.> little bugger was sitting on my cave entrance the whole time. Took me part of the morning to figure out how to get rid of the blasted thing, but I got out eventually. Started building a wood house on a cobblestone foundation (grabbed some saplings while I was out in a forest biome, and brought those back to plant on a grassy patch nearby, so I have trees there now. Then, once I get some string, I learn just how amusing mob fishing is. I now have a single floor wood house with the top floor still open (working on building up at some point, but I want a basement first), and I sit up there, and hook mobs, dropping them into a trench I dug around the sides of my house. It doesn't give that many items, but it's entertaining to me :P I did just have one incident with a creeper, though. Blew out part of the foundation (and all the sand that was underneath it). Took most of the day to fix >.< Gonna start digging out my basement, then I'll see if I can connect the basement to my cave. Or I might just block off the cave altogether and dig straight down under my house, dunno yet. Also, did anyone notice mob behavior changing any? At least creepers seem to decide to idle randomly and stare at me: Mildly creepy (and fitting), but still weird.
Shiny
Creepers are still [bleep]ing scary. Currently i've migrated to my brother's world, and hacked in TNT and lots of it. Having fun blowing stuff up! Made a 10x10x10 bomb, and was fun. I'm thinking of restarting on normal this time, and playing to survive.
Dax
Whilst making my new castle (Red hellstone looks pretty damn awesome) I stepped into some lava and didn't get out in time, losing three more buckets, plus another three from the losing items bug yesterday. *dies* Wtf? Peronix
Creepers will occasionally idle like that. They've always done that. It's pretty annoying, and kind of dangerous. Say you're waiting for that creeper to come down to so you can slash it and kill it, but it just sits there on top of its hill staring at you. While it distracts you, another creeper comes up from behind and... SSssssss BOOM. That's happened to me before <_<
LinkOlaran
I've had creepers come out of nowhere and kill me when I'm attacking another one as well. Even though when I'm backpedaling away from the first one, I quickly look around to make sure there wasn't one there >_> Have something like 40 gunpowder, just from fishing mobs at night now. I'm starting to think there's a cave right under me or something, I heard zombie and spider noises in my new basement, but I dunno if that was a sound glitch (which I read about last night, it randomly plays the wrong noise sometimes when you're walking), or if there's a cave under me. Might explain why I can't seem to reel in as many mobs now as I did, there aren't as many spawning near me. It's possible they're just spawning out of sight, I guess... One question now is, what will we do for mob traps? The 11.5k item trap is broken, down to... 20% production now, I think I read. Wonder what sort of format trap will put out the max items/hr now. Kiershar's 50x50 trap might work, since it looked like it worked off of natural mob spawns to begin with... although I really don't know what I'm talking about here :P just guessing. I still want a world that I spawn in the middle of a big desert biome, though >.< and when I say big, I mean big enough that I can't see the edges of the biome. bickers
started a new world just to try out branch mineing for rare ores (gold and diamond) this is the loot from 4hrs of mineing by far the most efficient way to mine for rare ores
Dupin
For desert maps, some guy had the idea of building a 4-block thick layer of sand over a huge area in a map, burning down all the trees under it, and collapsing it so he could have a desert. I would try it if I didn't have a million other things to build.

Skull
Made a new world right after I updated. I found a cool area pretty quickly, so that'll probably be my base location. My old main world says the file is 0.0mb, but it works fine. Dunno why. [bleep] the law, they can eat my dick that's word to Pimp
LinkOlaran
Well, I learned a valuable lesson, always always always mark your path when you go wandering for trees since your base has none nearby. I have about a dozen saplings planted outside my (new world's) base, but there're no trees nearby, I had to go wandering just to find some for my first night's torches. I decided to start working on a house, so I made two stone axes, brought a stone sword and a couple stone picks, plus my two fishing rods (stacking a worn one on a new one resets the worn one's durability, so infinite uses so long as you watch the durability to make sure it doesn't wear out completely), and went out looking for trees. Was out in a newish area, cutting down trees, starts getting dark, so I head back. Except I have no idea where back is. Fail -.- I wander around in the pitch black for a bit, trying to (hopefully) stumble across my cave. After a creeper blows up next to me and almost getting shot in the ass (again) from a skeleton, I decide to just dig a hole in the wall next to water and wait it out while fishing. Next day, I kill a couple creepers and a spider lurking nearby, and climb a nearby hill with trees on it. Turns out that same hill with trees on it is the overhang that my cave is built under. Even MORE fail. Ah well, at least I got plenty of fish that night. And more wood to hopefully built my house with. Gonna build a boat and see if I can find some clay and make a brick house instead, but I'm not holding my breath on finding enough, even with clay being more common now. Although, if I head out looking for clay, I'm bringing stuff to build temp shelters with. I might've been able to get away with standing outside at night and killing everything before, but I highly doubt it'll work too well now, with the increased spawning of mobs. Also Skull, that's a fairly common glitch, it seems it happens when you enter the Nether. It resets the filesize to 0.0mb (or I've also heard sends into negatives, but never seen it myself). The world functions as normal, though. Not sure if it's the Nether travel that's causing it or not, but it only happened to my main save after I went in and exited, so... Dupin
I was going to return to my old world, but I decided to finish mining the cave I found on my biomes world. After finishing the cave, which was above ground and not all that deep, here's my inventory box:All of that iron, coal, and gold is from one cave, and it was the first one I found. That's more than I had in many mines down to bedrock on my main world. I also made brick and snow blocks from my biome adventure. Each of those is four balls. You also might notice two saddles and some mossy cobblestone - I stumbled upon my first mob spawner in that same cave. I made a mob trap: based off vid. It's a bit disappointing as it spawns zombies, but it was still fun to build.

Not that I'd condone using it, but if it's just for funsies, why the hell not. If you access a chest while you're going to the Nether, when you arrive you can withdraw anything and the chest in the real world isn't affected in any way. I've done it for the sole purpose of blowing [cabbage] up somewhere in the Nether to see how deep it is, in the hopes of seeing the correlation of height between it and the real world. darkblade986
My skin: http://minecraft.net/skin/skin.jsp?user=darkblade986 Best way to find a skin is to make it yourself. Google up a reference model of what you want to build and take your time. Much more satisfying than just downloading one. As for the height of the Nether, I believe it's the same height floor to ceiling as a regular map; only difference is that Nether's ceiling is solid bedrock as oppose to sky. don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
LinkOlaran
Yeah, the mob spawning has severely increased for me: I counted 5 creepers and 5 spiders outside my mountaintop building. Not a clue so far if there's anything on ground level where my base entrance is. Probably more creepers, I get a lot more of them than spiders >.> Went down below while the pic was uploading, only found a single creeper (which exploded), and feathers scattered about from zombies. My mine's going slowly (had a severe coal shortage for a while, just found some more - was recycling torches up till now >.<). Gonna use the tnt I was able to make and start digging downward now. EDIT: Right around 3 hours after my original post. New record for mob spawns, had 13 (!) creepers outside this morning. 12 up above surrounding my mountaintop building, and one more down below. Not to mention all the feathers and arrows scattered about from zombies and skeletons. I'm enjoying myself right now, honestly. Probably not so much when I start digging down and hitting spots where I have to increase my lighting scheme to keep the area safe >.>

On a completely unrelated note, I'm building a minecart system between my entrance to the Nether and the portal created the first time I left the Nether to cut down on walking time. I improvised some sort of infinite booster, but then animals got in it and ruined it. Now I can't get it to work.
