Jagex will scam you

Wkw

Recommended Posts

According to google, 1 month = 30.4368499 days

According to any average Joe on the street, a month is 30 days.

According to Jagex, 1 month is = to however many days there are on the calendar.

When you buy membership, for 1 month, you pay for however many days there are in THAT month.

Feburary = 28 days. January, March, May, July, August, October, and December are worth 31. Everything is only 30.

Is this good business practice? They say "a month", but some months are worth more then the others.

The only way to get a fair price is to buy the game cards, as they have a fixed value and a fixed amount of days credited to them.

Who seriously cares about an extra day or two? That's rather pathetic. You may lose a day here or there, and gain another elsewhere. So what?

7 months of the year have 31 days, 4 have 30 and 1 has 28.

What's the big deal? 5 extra days throughout the year if you were going by your idea of 30 days/month. I don't see that as a bad thing.

I don't understand. You're telling us how months work, and how Jagex sticks to that, and yet you're calling it a scam?

Also, tell your friend "Average" Joe that they need to go back to school. A month is not defined as 30 days, it is one of the twelve arbitrary divisions in the calendar, which are not all the same size.

But then you'd have a build-up of credit, and be paying for more credit when you don't need it. Now that would be a scam. If you're being sarcastic, I apologise.

Anything other than what Jagex is doing right now would not constitute "$5 a month" and they would be liable for false advertising. This strikes me as picking a fight with Jagex when there is none.

Its the way the world works.

Bills, rents and all sorts of payments are done monthly and subsequently cover a shorter period for the shorter months

Well I'm not quite sure if the game cards are fixed in days...earlier this month I bought a 90 day card and received 105 days. I'm fine with the way they give out the membership by month since if you perpetually pay you end up with the same cost for a year, and for some F2P players who decide to try a month of members, they might get an extra day depending on the month.

Hardly a scam.

I've noticed this before. I kinda wish they "packaged" and sold it as 31 or 30 days. I often let my membership lapse and I buy it again when either I need it for Crew or when I have an interest/will have time to play often when I buy it. I try to avoid renewing in February, very easy if you get members end of January and then renew again after Feb is over. I pay by SMS and in CAD so it is a flat CAD$10.00 per month rather than 5.

Annoying, but I wouldn't call it a scam.

Welcome to the real world. My mortgage payments and utility bills aren't any cheaper in February compared to March either.

When companies advertise "____ per month", you are paying them, PER MONTH. Jagex is selling "1 month". A month = 30 days. Paying someone per month is paying them for THAT month.

If I say "a month", it is implying 30 days, as that is what "a month" is

If I say "that month", it would imply however many days "that month" I was talking about. Be it a 28 or 31 day month, it would depend.

My TV/Internet bill doesn't say "pay X for every calendar month", it charges you per day, between the day I subscribed.

If I subscribed for internet on the 15th of March, I would be paying from the 15th of March to the 14th of April. Of course it would differ, because sometimes there will be 1 extra day, but it is still the same per day.

Jagex is advertising it as "a month". They are not giving you "a month", they are giving you "this month", which isn't even true. If I were to subscribe on the 28th of February, I would only get 28 days. 28 days is NOT a month. 28 days is February. If they wanted to sell membership for Feb, they should charge me per-day up to the end of the month. Paying from the 1st of the month could cost more then paying from the 20th of the month, but it would still be the same PER DAY.

Jagex advertises by the calendar month, which equates to however many days there are in that month. A calendar month is still a month.

A month is 30 days to you, not jagex.

Go cry more about the few extra pennies you had to pay because of this.

As in 31 days per each payment.

If you're paying by credit card, it adds 31 days each payment. There would be no build up. 31 days is up and it adds another 31

Since I'm bored out of my skull, let's do some math here.

You define a "month" as 30 days. So, in....

  • February, you're missing out on 2 days. That's 2/30 days that you paid for that you're not getting. So about... 33 cents, in U.S. dollars.
  • The 4 30-day months of the year, you're getting exactly what you paid for.
  • The 7 31-day months of the year, you're getting an extra day. So 1/30 days, which in U.S. dollars, is and extra 16 cents per month * 7 months = an extra $1.17 that you're getting out of Jagex.

So, according to your definition, they're actually undercharging you by $0.84 per year - and that's assuming you get the old 5-dollar rate. (It would be more at the current price.) This is, of course, assuming you get members for the whole year. If you just get it for year segments, then, well... either suck it up and pay the extra 33-40 cents, enjoy the extra 16 cents that you got undercharged, or... just don't renew in February? Or only renew via the Runescape cards? It's not that hard.

Seriously, you put up a thread complaining about - at their current maximum U.S. price-per-month - a whole 40 cents. That you'd only get "scammed" out of ONCE PER YEAR. At current U.S. minimum wage, that's an extra.... 3.3 minutes.... that you're complaining about. You've probably spent longer than that defending your point on this thread...
