Tip.It Times - 28th August 2011

Recommended Posts

Time for a new release of the: >>>Tip.It Times!<<<

I'd like to remind people of the rules pertaining to Times threads:

[hide=Read these rules before posting in this thread]

Rampant flame wars have taken control of virtually every week's times discussion topics. The following guidelines must be followed when posting on this topic. Posts that ignore these guidelines will be removed.

1. You are invited and welcome to express like or dislike on articles and a particular author's writing style. It is not acceptable, however, to flame or personally insult an author. Posts that aren't anything but an attack will be removed from the topic.

2. Spelling and grammar errors can be reported to Racheya by PMing her and they will be fixed promptly. It is not necessary to post them on the discussion topic.

3. Off topic posts that do not discuss the content of that week's articles will be removed. This is not the place to discuss the direction of the times, how much you love or hate the times, etc. Off topic posts will be removed.

By keeping within these guidelines, Times discussion topics will mean more for the Panel and Administration than just a place for flame wars. Flame wars do not provide any useful feedback to the Times, which is mainly what we're aiming for with these topics: feedback.

This policy is effective as of now, November 17, 2010. Any posts prior to the creation of this policy may or may not be removed according to the new guidelines.

[/hide]

When replying please make sure to clarify the article you are replying to! Thanks!

If you spot any typos or mistakes in the article then please PM them to me :)

Enjoy the articles!

I am very pleased to see Troacctid's writing included in the Times. He's been doing great stuff on his blog, and I'm glad it's on a bigger platform now.

@ Jagex Flubbed Another Opportunity

Jagex listening to players is not so common. There are so many great ways to improve Runescape for better with small improvements like "Bury-X", but there is no communication line between Jagex and Runescape players and it's not the players fault. I am with you when you say that Jagex should give Free players some obsolete functions/methods. But hey they don't care.

They only like to shout out "We have a F2P game and among one of the things you see in F2P is Corporeal beast, GEneral Graardor etc" (Bosses refering to P2P artwork used to advertise that they have a great f2p game).

And I still don't understand why F2P can't craft Chaos runes. I mean, who in their right mind crafts them anyway. They should at least have the option.

I agree with the f2p article to some degree. Maybe not the bone crusher, but defiantly 'Bury-All', f2p does need those little things.

I loved the letters to the evil chicken. I liked Jagex's ones and I like troacctid's as well. Keep it up!

I agree with the "Jagex Flubbed" article. Jagex should still have some committment to the free game and giving them some obsolete equipment is a pretty nice way of doing it.

With that being said, there is caution in what Jagex can give away for free players because it ends with the question of where to draw the line? And that debate never ends, except for at the wall West of Falador :)

I'm not so sure about the master runecrafter robes, but I don't see why F2p can't have the bonecrusher and a bury-x option. Also, F2p should really be able to craft chaos runes to bring the price down (I even think it wouldn't be so bad to let them craft law runes and give them Entrana).

Hi

I'm not sure that Jagex should give anything new to the F2Ps because players have a choice:

1. to play for free (and let the rest of us pay for your server usage and maintenance) and be satisfied with what is provided for you free of charge

2. pay a very modest fee every month to get and enjoy what the rest of us has.

For the record: I played as F2P for something like 3 years before making my decision to become a member and I haven't looked back since.

I hate to sound so harsh, but I think that this is just what it all comes down to.

One of the perks of being members is faster leveling. Making things specifically easier for F2P devalues the idea.

You could argue the runecrafting gloves and swordfish gloves, as well as the urns, contradict that point. I can only say that Jagex is inconsistent.

The master runecrafting robes won't be for F2P. I think they're supposed to entice the F2P guild to ponying up for members.

EDIT: Forgot, they gave the canoes to F2P as well this year, didn't they.

I'm a member too, I pay for the things that actually get use. Having been a long time F2Per and a P2Per, items like the bonecrusher have very little use in P2P but would be a very welcome addition to F2P. I don't think the solution is to pay $6/month to ignore obsolete content.

I'm usually very moderate. But this time I have to agree with NeoHero.

It is a free game, if you choose. Why should P2P players pay for F2P updates?

Hey! Call Microsoft, and tell them their free games need upgardes,

then again go try to play another free game on the net.

I've played F2p for a few years, got me hooked, and became a member.

Still don't understand all the whining about F2P

Since when is bonecrusher not used in P2P? I think loads of members use it and it is quite good for hunter (saves time dropping/burying the bones).

@ Jagex Flubbed

Would you rather have a free trial of 30 days, or be limited to maximum lvl 60 in all skills? That's what most p2p games out there do. F2p in RS is already very generous, if you want more you need to pay - that's kind of the point.

The thing is I honestly can think of very little that's both already in the game AND not used by a sizeable portion of the p2p population.

I do get the point being made though, and I'll agree its a good one.

I know its "generous" in that you can continue playing as long as you want, but I don't want to pay extra to ignore stuff that I'm asking for here. If "bury-all" was implemented in F2P/P2p, I'd ignore it if I paid $6/month because I'd "Altar-All" instead.

Since I'm P2p right now, I don't use the bonecrusher because I'm saving my tokens for a CLS... even if I had enough tokens for both I'd still ignore it because I'd rather have a free inventory space for another potion instead of the pitiful prayer experience.

Also as far as the new runecrafting robes are, I wouldn't pay $6/month just to use those. The first set of runecrafting robes should've included an extra something anyway, instead of being purely decorative (Heck, I'd prefer members robes to get a bigger bonus as long as the standard robes got a small bonus).

More f2p content would be an investment in the game that would yield virtually no return. F2p players aren't an asset to jagex or the game in general, and no one has given a single offensive warrant for more f2p content. There only result is added expense which contributes nothing to the game.

Except that Jagex has been riding their "biggest *free* MMORPG" title for years. Why not give a few things to the portion of the game they advertise the most?

I'm not sure what the added expense to changing a binary from isP2POnly from true to false. Other than the Bury-All, what we usually ask for has already been developed and isn't in use.

Also as Kaida pointed out, the F2P segment gives JaGEx loads of free advertising from Book of World Records among other things.

Both articles were very well written. I do agree that f2p needs some more content, and a few little quirks to training skills, (such as the bury x that has been mentioned 9001 times so far).

The Evil Chicken article actually put a little grin on my face. I remember those days when out of no where, he'd pop up and if you didn't have prayer or something to fight with, you were pretty much screwed.

On a side note...am I the ONLY p2p member that wants a Bonecrusher and finds it useful?????

Adding extra content on f2p servers costs money, regardless if the stuff has already been developed. It also gives less incentive to join p2p, which lowers potential profit, which also happens to be the purpose of f2p.

F2p obviously has a value to the game, that's why it exists. But adding new content to f2p wouldn't do anything. More things to advertise is useless if it doesn't actually get people to subscribe.
