SoF Feedback Response

Kind of reminds me of the Prisoner's Dilemma. If no one spins the wheel it goes away, but we can't be sure the other players won't. So, to stay competitive, we spin the wheel, meaning that it will have to stay.

Yes, Jagex just made me compare us to prisoner's. FML.

Also, I wouldn't have any problems with the wheel if they got rid of the micro-transactions. Jagex, what are the percentage of players who regularly buy spins? Seeing as how you are so eager to release statistics...

In my head made me think of a daytime TV gameshow where at the end the two have to pick share or steal.

Steal + Share = Stealer gets it

Share + Share = Shared

Steal + Steal = All is lost.

Often they win nothing because they steal, fearing the other person will steal.

Steal equates to spinning the wheel, share to not spinning.

If no-one span the ideal of it being removed would be likely.

If we don't spin but others do we just lose out without making a noticeable dent or statement (to Jagex's eyes)

If we all spin, everyone 'loses' as it allows Jagex to feign statistics where 90% spin daily it *must* be popular

Well we all know that was bs and he knows it himself. I will presume he isnt an idiot and understands the difference of people using free spins and enjoying that side of the content compared against the rwt side aspect of the update.

(Inb4 He says that 94.2425% of members enjoy buying spins and winning 50gp. We cant lose..!)

Anyway bla bla bla.

I just like the bit where he says..

"and also introducing additional payment protection for all in game purchases as soon as players notified us it was a concern."

..Yeh I was one of the players that did that. Thankyou for the reply that fobbed me off and said their security was secure. That I had nothing to be worried about if I didnt give out my pw. >.> (Before they updated their security. >.>) I dont blame the employee but I do blame the people incharge telling him to respond that way. I was not 'asking a dang question' at the time. I was informing them that their security was bulls and needed fixing. I would preferred acknowledgement of their mistake and were referring the issue to the right people for a fix... <_< What I got was a no fix answer. Secretly fixed later and pretended it was always that way. I suppose the fix was the most important thing.. So I dont care.. But finally they acknowledging us and their initial amateur security.

Anyhoo. >Bad language< Mark Gerhard. Thx for the predicted response but pretty pointless and might aswell not said anything besides acknowledging us players who told them their security stunk. Truthfully the ingame adverts and repeated front page posts related to free spins and benefits to buying the spins is even more aggravating than this response. /mini-rant

(Btw - Notice they put this information out while we have a good content update - Both the rc update and the anti-lag update - To ease the blow. Manipulative PR thing. I AM thankful for the employees that gave those things to us but Mark is just using it to his advantage which is questionably manipulative to me. Though makes no difference either way.)

They need an option to hide the SoF pop up. It's really annoying to have to click the little 'x' every time I log in.

We don't hate the wheel, we hate microtransactions.

Exactly. Notice how they hardly mention buying spins at all. #-o

I posted in your topic on RSoF, but I will post it here too.

As a fellow member and veteran (joined back in 2005) of Tip.It, I have to say that even though I don't hate the SoF as much as many others, it is still not something I like. The SoF's buyable spins have made the game less fair. You can now buy yourself xp in whatever skill you want. Those who have plenty of money in the real world can now make sure that they progress faster than those who have little money in the real world.

Jagex have always, until the release of buyable spins that is, been very clear on that what I just mentioned isn't fair. Everyone should have the same chance to progress in RuneScape. If two member players start an account each they should also have the same chance to progress. You shouldn't be able to just buy your way to success.

You write: "Noone abuses the system, I agree... It is the system itself is abuse of fair-play in RuneScape." I agree completely with this. To offer players such a chance to do the wrong choice, and then complain on them for doing so, is not really a smart thing, Jagex.

Especially when, as pointed out here by TS_Stormrage, we get Yelps' icon in the middle of the top of the screen every time when we log in. Even if you click the "X" the icon just appears again. And then we of course have the icon in the GUI, just next to the magic and friend's list tabs. Of course people spins the wheel every day, when they are offered free spins! It's not more strange than that.

I was in the beginning, just after the release of this SoF, mostly positive to this update. I still like that you can spin a flashy wheel and hit an ugly goblin in the face every day to get daily rewards. But you shouldn't be able to buy spins for real world money. This is simply not fair. You can buy member's for real world money, sure, but that is not close to the same thing since you then buy something that just indirectly gives you an advantage. You still have to earn all your xp and money yourself.

Please, rethink this, Jagex.

Remove buyable spins.

"People are using the free advantage in the game everyone else has access to so they must all enjoy the free advantage and support the ability to buy more of the advantage in the game."

Jagex have used some pretty backwards logic in the past but this is just ridiculous.

I'm also pretty sure nowhere NEAR 70% of F2P accounts log in daily, what with most veteran players having 10+ that they never use/forgot about, and the millions that have quit. P2P is possible but also unlikely.

Yes, 90% of members spin the wheel everyday because it's there.

TBH, I think most of us are just more disheartened by the microtransaction side of the wheel more than anything.

Also, in terms of the gambling with the wheel...

WILL SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!

I think the argument then becomes if you were truly against the wheel, you'd do something crazy, like, I don't know, not use it at all. I'm going to go out on a limb and sayh whilst a fairly large proportion of players dont buy spins, there are still enough voting with their wallets to keep jagex interesting in selling spins.

If people were truly against SoF itself, rather than just the Microtransactions (or if they were feeling strongly enough) they'd have to boycott SoF in large numbers to vent their distaste. But lets face it, it's not going to happen.

It's BXP all over again, only worse this time...

At least we can give them credit for answering our questions.

Tbh the whole microtransaction economic side of it would not be half as bad if they did not feed us this bullshit.

If on day 1 they had said we are introducing microtransactions here to increase our income and to do so we have had to tweak this long standing rule. While we know this may upset some people we want to reassure you we still stand by the original sentiment and have no plans to allow players to directly purchase a large advantage in-game.

Would that of been a bit annoying for many of us? Sure. But it wouldn't be half as bad as waffling on with statistics and entirely ignoring the fact they quietly changed the rule substantially which is what really pissed off a lot of people.

Further with the quest thing we deserve a GOOD reason why we can't have retroactive spins or at least have the balls to say it's because you wouldn't profit off the mass of spins that way.

There's only about 160 quests in game, 2 spins per quest would mean at MOST we'd get 320 spins.

You CANNOT say this isn't being done as it would 'damage the games economy' when you are letting people buy 450 (that's right a whole 130 more spins than we'd get) in 1 go; let alone mentioning the fact the daily spend limits let you buy 900 spins every 24 hours or the fact that those 320+ spins per player that'd apparently 'ruin' the economy is still being given (bit by bit) to anyone with 0 quests done prior to this change.

Thank you for this. I agree with it 100%.

Probably referring to active accounts. ANY F2P statistic would be completely useless if you ignored inactive accounts.

Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

I have no respect for someone who announces stuff like this who uses incorrect grammar, spelling, and fluffed statistics.

Where's the incorrect grammar and spelling?

I agree that the statistics are meaningless (90% of members might use it, but that's because it's hard NOT to) but that doesn't mean 90% of members like it.

Haven't played in ages but that update is just stupid. And the explanation is pure BS as well, 3 paragraphs of not adressing the real issues with it and then talking about a new update.

I wish Jagex gave us the option of turning off the squeal on our accounts so we didn't have to see the tab, the floating announcement, the goblin face when we finish a quest, or anymore of those stupid spin tickets. That's how I would like to vote, and I think more people would be willing to abstain from their spins if it wasn't constantly in your face nagging you. The way Jagex constantly advertises the wheel without our consent is like having a mandatory Gamblers Anonymous meeting on the casino floor of the Bellagio.

I wonder what their basis for feedback was. A look at 3/4 posts or imaginary praise? They should create a poll to get more accurate results that we can also validate ourselves. However I do think more people are in support of it but not by 90% of the audience.

Looking forward to the summer combat upgrade though. Any speculation on that?

What we know about the combat update is that specs will be removed in favor of a hotbar. Monster weaknesses will be more prevalent as well. The stats of most armor/weps will change, and the combat formulas might change too.
