Also, adding voice acting to an extensive list of old quests kinda excludes all the veteran players that did (all of) them already. Unless, perhaps, just maybe, Jagex allows us to "replay" quests in the future.

I was specifically referring to new quests in old quest series. So a new elf quest with voice acting, similar to how this new penguin quest follows an old one. Don't go back and add voice acting, just start with it now :)

While on break I got thinking about how jagex incorporates puns and references to history, culture and religion. What dawned on me was our fiendishly hard to spy penguin might not use an outfit as you might think. What if our penguin was in a mini-submarine that traveled the seas and rivers. I would imagine what would make it so fiendish to spot is it only "surfaces" every couple minutes. When it doesn't surface all you would see is a para scope roaming around with a silhouette much like the strykewyrms. So I would imagine our penguin appearing along the river lum, wizards tower shore, or any other water environment.

The cynical me would like to say that they'll just recycle the periscope mechanic for the new hide and seek spy :P Would be kinda bleugh if it's just that.

From the BTS this quest looks really good - a new and open looking camp with a variety of NPCs to interact with. Looks much better than linear stage-by-stage underground dungeons (Firemaker's Curse, the Elder Kiln, Song from the Depths all suffer from this tiring mechanic).

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

They updated the requirements for clan avatars.

Basic: 3000 timber.

Medium: 30,000 timber, 30,000 precious bars.

Grand: 30,000 timber, 30,000 precious bars, 30,000 rations.

And we had just reset the tick for it too...

  • 1 month later...

I love the outfit the Botany Bay judge is wearing. Makes it look like the whole thing is a late 17th century witch trial (with similarly predetermined outcomes).

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

The really silly thing is I never really looked at them myself when I was posting that. The Botany bay gives me a serious Canifis vibe. If I didn't know what piece of content they were, I might have actually thought that's where those pictures are from.

And the quest looks like they are going to have some fun with it like I was hopping. Looks like fun. I'd say it looks like assassins creed but I have never played that game, or seen it played so I can't really judge

Heh, by the time I'm done with RuneScape I'm pretty much fantasied out. Most of my gaming library is sci-fi. I have a reasonably formidable collection of space games.

And I labled the pictures, since they go to two different pieces of content. The first 5 are botany bay, the others came labeled as Ozan Quest (if you ever wanted to know what the jmods are calling it).

It's much more a historical game with fantasy elements. Definitely worth a try,

Edit: Just looked at Al Kharid pics and damn, it looks almost exactly like the first Assassin's Creed, albeit the building are spaced out a bit more. Going to have to fight the urge to just scale the buildings outright.

No, what should make you sad is that I have yet to watch fight club (by the way, if this gives you the urge to send me a list of movies/games that I absolutely must see/play, feel free to pm them to me, especially movies).

And I wouldn't be surprised if it was inspired by AC, at least in a visual sense. Some of the Jmods are really big gamers (and one of them looks like Bass Hunter to boot <3: ). If I were designing content for a game as open as RuneScape, you can bet that I would take inspiration from my favourite games and movies, both because other people have awesome ideas too, and as homage to them.

It kind bugs me that ANYTHING with any sort of remotely parkour/free-running like elements these days is suddenly inspired by AC in peoples minds.

Given the nature of the area and the styling of the NPCs there is far more Prince of Persia vibe going on, which even fits with the parkour-ish elements since they did that way before AC did.

Neither game "invented" large flat tan rooftops with clotheslines going everywhere perfect for running around on, and it doesn't really matter as people aren't making a formal credit roll for a movie, they're associating something with a current work they're familiar with.

I did not use the word invented, nor did I say people can't associate it with AC; with a franchise such as AC being so known for the free running the associate is obviously there.

I specifically said it bugs me that people jump to 'inspired' for such a limited connection between the two.

I mean in the AC universe we haven't really had any locations that look anything like Al-Kharid does other than perhaps Derinkuyu in ACR, but even so that's a much duller place and carved into the rock rather than a built style, and nowhere has been particularly desert related. Where as Prince of Persia universe we literally have the exact styling Al-Kharid is going for in desert locations with the flamboyant extravagant colours and styles of dress that the NPCs are wearing. So to me it is rather tenuous to say AC has/might have 'inspired' these new quests because there's only a slight link to be made where as something like Prince of Persia shares a whole lot more stylistically so is a much more likely inspiration.

Fair enough. I think the association with Assassin's Creed was with the original in which Jerusalem and possibly Damascus both had the desert look that Al Kharid has, it was for me.

I didn't think it would rustle so many jimmies to say that. I'm mostly talking about the infiltration aspect and a similar color palette. If it was washed out whites and blues I would have said Mirror's Edge, which was a much better free-running game designed entirely around that aspect.
