spooferfish
the granite mine is in the desert right? (please correct me if i'm wrong) so it would make sense for you to need waterskins. Precisley. It's in the desert. Deal with it.

Precisley. It's in the desert. Deal with it. So is Bandit Camp. We could campare this with Egypt. Cairo is a city, its very hot. The dessert is not a city, its very hot. Freesia
That's a bummer, :wall: i'm happy to be one of those that got 99 mining before this update : . Tbh, i don't feel any significant speed difference between iron and granite. The most granite will go slightly above 4k exp/hour. At least this should help slow down new coming 85 miners, as if there isn't enough already Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(. darkblade986
The dessert is not a city, its very hot. How is Ice Cream hot? Add a little too much hot fudge? :D Sorry, couldn't resist... don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
Kariga
It is ok for me..i don't train mining anymore. But since the mining spot was made into a hot place that needs waterskins, then the bandit camp and the tents there should be hot places too. 6221st to 85 Slayer. Pyrex
Jagex leaves a hole to powertrain something very fast, then they take it away. EVERYONE SHOULD BE GIVEN A FAIR CHANCE! And those who complain, you decide yourself what you do to train. You might like challenge, take the challenge. But just because you want challenge shouldn't mean everyone have to take the challenge. GAMES SHOULD BE ENTERTAINMENT, NOT PAIN! AND IT IS PAIN TO TAKE A CHALLENGE YOU DON'T WANT TO TAKE! Happened before (charge is a famous one), happened now and will happen again. One good reason to quit. RetiredEx-E174Ex-Venqeance[Ex-Tha Familia3]
SirHartlar
Ah well it got me the 60 mining I needed for Lunar Diplomacy very quickly. I don't train mining very often so it won't affect me. :
Seanthorn
Okay, i've seen people commenting on how they don't care, why post? If you don't care, then theres no reason to post a reply saying about it. Yes, i repsect your opinions, but alot of people seem to be arguing each others opinions. Just post what you think about it, example: Against the update: "I feel the update is unnecessary because they should of fixed it ages ago, not now. Jagex might aswell let the mining without waterskins go on, as it isn't fair...." For the update: "I think the update was a right choice, the reason is because there has been a raise in the mining market, not alot of P2P's mine iron, making iron increase in price..." Personally, i don't like posts that annoy other players, but if you wish to get your point to everyone, go ahead... Back on topic... It is ok for me..i don't train mining anymore. But since the mining spot was made into a hot place that needs waterskins, then the bandit camp and the tents there should be hot places too. I agree, i think if the Granite/Sandstone mine requries Waterskins, so does EVERYWHERE in the desert. (Except underground... Kalphie lair..) ho3f3l
ive allways mined 4 and droped 4 there, for me its seems easier to drop the near the bottom rows, so i would just bring 24 waterskins and mine till they end, and glory to al kharid and reapeat. u have to move a little every now and then, but just doenst say its ruined.... its no like u have to walk since shantay pass till there... maybe if u needed the waterskins since the start, u would be mining there as same and u wouldnt be complaining about it here... Jncon
I am tired of Jagex trying to play this whole realism thing. IF they want to make stuff real in Runesacpe, they need to have consistency. For example: If I lived in lets say, Iraq, since everyone knows its hot there, if I were to go in the desert, common sense would tell me to drink water. We all agree on that factor, heat kills. Now according to Jagex, if your in a town you don't get hurt from heat. Well I am pretty sure when its 120 degrees in Iraq, mother nature isn't nice and turns on the Air Conditioning for the people in the cities. I personally believe if they want to make hydration a part of runescape, they need to implement it in the entire game, since humans are 80% water. And they might as well make outhouses to go to the bathroom and beds for us to sleep on. OH NO I sense another fatigue system coming!!! All I am saying is that if they want to start messing up lvling by implementing real life fatigue situations, they need to implement every real life fatigue and put it in every aspect of game, instead of one. That is my 2 cents in the matter. 99 smithing rsc
redserpent4
@ Peronix, if that method works for you - great! Although others would rather lay back, browse forums, watch t.v or what-have-you whilst your inventory fills with the rocks. it demands as much attention payed to mine one and drop one than mine 28 and drop 28. You have to click for every new ore so you couldn't lay back, browse forums, watch t.v or anything because your inventory doesn't fill up with rocks all by it's onesy. other than that i agree with your post. The granite mining was very useful, there were loads of rocks and very few were ever taken by other players. as i said before the xp was comparable with iron if slightly better at granite rocks so i imagine after a little while people will just get used to either carrying alot of waterskins or using iron. It's true that the same standards should technically be applied to towns and cities in the desert but i really doubt that would happen because of quests, and the massive amount of people who afk combat at the bandits. Seanthorn
Now lets make a vote. What mine would you use now?? The Granite mine, or the Iron mine? For me, its Iron!
the_tallest1
I'm not quite sure why a few people have said that granite is comparable to iron or just slightly better. I did some tests when I was mining it and it's about 1.23 times better xp per hour than iron with concentrated mining. It's not the most staggering change but it's at least a notable improvement. I'll continue to use the gold and iron mines either way. 571st to 99 Fm Nov. 4 '06 - 315th to 99 Crafting Mar. 3 '07 - 3410th to 99 Fishing Sept. 18 '0726378th to 99 Cooking Oct. 16 '07 -.- 99 Thieving Dec. 29 '07 - 1343rd to 99 Farming June 5 '081807th to 99 Agility Nov. 8 '08 - 3094th to 99 Smithing Feb. 14 '092012 total - 91 combat

elishot
Well I'm not happy about it either, but a full inventory of waterskins [24, since you need room for a pick and 3 granite spaces], should last about 2.5 hours without desert robes, with it, it would be about 4 hours. It isn't THAT bad. Some people only play 4 hours a day. I also doubt that someone could sit their mining for 4 hours non-stop without logging out for at least 10 minutes. wakka102
Wakka102 says this ( i dont kno how do do the quote copying thing, this is best i can do) =========================================== Thats ridiculous. So all the people who power mined there to 99 got a quicker shortcut then others? thats lame... *goes to the rants board on official boards* ======================================== From a lvl 80 or below this is a typical answer. your a lvl 126 with increbile skills all before Pest Control im asuming. Let me start by saying if this is how the highest lvl in the game acts, its a shame. Do you realise you said its not fair? like a whinying little child below the 6th grade. you guys are crying like tomorrow and till 99 mining, you would be here non-stop! yes it stinks you need waterskins, but it is fair. your in the desert, you should have them. Especially with Wakka's post, the more i read the more agrivating it got. there was 1 guy who made the best post in the world, can't remmeber his name but it says somthing like... " Jagex makes it easier you rant. Jagex makes it harder you rant.. why do i even bother posting here?" i would like to let you know, you have it exactly. These people just want to live life complaing about anything.I'm not usually one to rant. This is the first update where I actually got mad over it. I've never had much of a problem with any past updates to my knowledge. Mining is one of the skills that I really liked and they just made the skill harder then it already was. I apologize for overreacting as I see that it can still be used. I just saw this, got frustrated, and vented my anger into a post -.- . I look at the good side of it though, it makes the skill even more worth having as less people will have it the harder it is to get :) . Is there a place in the deser to buy full waterskins? if so we're set :)
number1short
Notice how it didn't change until after Contact! came out? Well isn't there a new bank after you finish the quest? Maybe that's why they put a bank there, to have a reason to make you use waterskins. Stock up at Shanty, then just go to the bank when your skins run out. Wakka, I'm pretty sure there's a place where you can fill all your waterskins (no not cactuses), but I'm not entirely sure.
