fakeitormakeit
What is a treasure hunter? It is someone who spends most of their time treasure trailing and thieving. I ask you, don't you think theer has been a decline despite the addition of Rogue's Den & new treasure trail items? ore people have seemed to go to faster pace skills(combat) or just chose a more common hobby(Woodcutting, Flax-picking, Merchanting). So I ask do you think there has been a decline? And do you think it is even very to moderately profitable to be a treasure hunter anymore with all those other methods of money making? honeo
I think people have been turned away from TT because of the low percent of profit. TT is there for fun and fun only. I have done 3 TT (all level 1's) in the past 2 days and the best I have gotten was a Black Full Helm. It is discouraging but it spices up your RuneScape life and makes you always hope for new things =). As for a decline in TT items? No way. Look at the fourms. The TT threads and being created by the heaps! The fourms moving faster than the fletching fourm! I posted a thread and I clicked "Back to TT threads" immediately after I posted a bump, and it was halfway down the page already! So no, there is not a decline in TT items. (BTW TT = Treasure Trail.) Peronix
If by 'treasure hunters' you mean people that just sit at HAM or jellies collecting clues and doing them, I agree completely. More and more people are figuring out everyday what an enormous waste of time to attempt to make a 'living' off treasure trails is. The fact is, treasure trails has a considerably LOW chance of giving you good items, and it's not worth trying to make your cash that way. But there is no shortage of treasure trails items. It may be a complete waste of time to try to make ends meat in runescape off of treasure trails, but hey, if you're training your slayer, and your task monster just happens to drop a clue... why not do it? Truthfully, i'd say that 99% of the treasure trails items come from people just TRAINING that get clue drops, then do them. However, I'd say there is a bit less due to Pest Conntrol products training there instead of at monsters that drop clues.
yomom1919
I honestly dont think treasure hunting was big, it was more of a pastime. It was never really profitable either, and it still isnt with the new stuff (3a chances are 1/10000). Not really much to debate.
Jake_Corsair
Being that I'm currently on a "quest" to fill my Treasure Chest in my house by collecting items rather than buying (currently doing level 1 clues), I can say that there aren't as many people down in the HAM hideout. I started doing this, about a week before the new items were released. As soon as they were released, it was a madhouse in there for a little under a week. Since then it's dropped off a lot. At any given time I'm down there, there might be about 4-5 others (not counting the occasional "death to dorgeshun" quester). While I agree with Peronix, that as far as making money. There are better, faster ways. And that's the problem. Everyone looks for the get rich quick way of doing things, not a bad thing. But clues definately not the quick way, although decent money over time, most people don't have the patience to take that kind of time. If Jagex ever made a perfect update, there would be players complaining about nothing to complain about.[hide=My Stats][/hide]

warren211
Well... it depends on what you call "treasure hunting" Theres treasure hunting using the key from making history quet. There's treasure trails. Theiving Desert agility minigames. Treasure trails and theiving are still popular. Though there has been a decline in theives, there is an increase in treasure trailers because of new clues. The other three treasure hunting methods are practically dead. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. Alex2828
I'm getting 99 cooking, but i got slightly bored and went to hellhounds. Got a scroll after 2 and got something good (New Glory Ammy). So i spent my night there and did about 12 level 3 clues today and yesterday (total). After a few more goals, i'll be there for a while. Fun as. :) Currently: Quit Ages Ago
Phisher
Skills people like: Combat Woodcutting Cooking Fishing (somewhat) Mining (somewhat again) See a pattern? These are click and forum skills. You don't have to pay constant attention to the screen, therefore making the skill 'easier'. Skills people don't like: Agility Thieving Herblore Firemaking Because you need to pay attention, you have to watch the screen almost all the time. People still do clue scrolls, but they kill other monsters besides Hellhounds for them :-$
fx1970
I only do clue level 3 that i get in my slayer tasks. Lower level clue are just useless, because of the black or addy items you will get instead of rune ones. I think they are funny, only take 20minutes on average, and can be very profitable. But if people think taht clue is the absolute Money giver and do it only for thta, deception is the only outcome, except if they are very lucky. It is the same with everything, like people who camp at dusties fro a D chain or at abyssal demon for a whip. They should be considered as great training spot that can give them a boost in cash if they are lucky. But coming for the drop will very soon become a deception. blurmedia
no i dont think that the rate at wich you get items is to low to be honest ill say that most clue's are done by slayer trainers but in 5 clues i got 3 items that was in 2 days and ive had loads of items before also when ever my freinds get clue scrolls they frequently get a good item. Gugge
I am one of the persons who love doing the trails. For level 1 I go to HAM if I want clues quickly (this is often when I cant decide what to do in game ;) ) For level 3 I kill what the slayer master tell me to kill, sometimes I burthorpe a task only for the reason that it's not a clue dropping monster. I dont do level 2 clues very often. I am also trying to fill up my treasure trail chest in house, and refuse to buy items. I either get them myself, or trade an item that I have double of for somehting I need. Every time Jagex do a change in the trails, no matter if they add new items or new clues, it cause a *LOT* of people to do trails. After a few weeks the amount of people who do trails sink back to "normal". That is where we are now, the last update in the trails was the 5th december which is 1,5 month ago. The new items are not new any longer and because of that the demand for them has gone down. Please think before you ask a question. If you ask the right question, its much more likely you get the answer you are looking for :)
the_tallest1
Like Gugge and Jake I'm also trying to fill up my house with TT rewards that I get myself. I got really bored with crafting and decided I should be doing something I enjoy more. I think the Lvl 1's from HAMs are a great way to go. I do get the occasional "33 bodies and 123 gp" but I've also gotten about 12 god pages, trimmed and gold range items, trimmed and gold mage robes, gold black armor, and recently a guthix robe piece. I've done at least 80 or more in the past few days and couldn't have had more fun doing them. I think on average there are few who actively camp out somewhere to get clues since there are others ways to make "fast money", but to each their own. 571st to 99 Fm Nov. 4 '06 - 315th to 99 Crafting Mar. 3 '07 - 3410th to 99 Fishing Sept. 18 '0726378th to 99 Cooking Oct. 16 '07 -.- 99 Thieving Dec. 29 '07 - 1343rd to 99 Farming June 5 '081807th to 99 Agility Nov. 8 '08 - 3094th to 99 Smithing Feb. 14 '092012 total - 91 combat
lordkrohn1626
Level 3 clues was my quick money maker for awhile, backhand a few hellhounds, grab a clue and run. Go back and do another. Used to do 3 a night or so. As soon as Lunar magics was released, I (a non pker and solo player) decided that a group pkers consisting of of high lunar, ancients and reg magic could be quite troublesome. Not worth the annoyance, and I have since gotten different money makers. They can have the wildy, since I train and do everything alone, not worth the risk anymore. I used to bury a few wannabe pkers when they had the audacity to bother me when I was clue digging, or give them a taste of ice barrage and watch them scatter. But now? not worth the risk IMHO. RS name: lord krohn Combat 138slayer specific: 103 whips, 38 dark bows and 250+ dragon boots dropped to date.Dragon drops: 5 Half shields, 21 drag legs, 8 dragon skirts, and 9 drag meds dropped to date. spikerkid
I only do them when I get them. Right awa, hasn't changed since i've gotten my first one. But now for stuff like wear this and do this emote start turning people away from TT. Quit RuneScape :)
aznmidget448
There was a rise in TT people because of the new TT, but after a while, they all dispersed. If you are able to get even one third age piece, you would be pretty rich =P~ , but once people noticed the odds were against them, they simply just gave up and went back to whatever they were doing. Mommonja
It all depends. I've done about 5 clues yesterday (myself being a treasure hunter). I got sara top and bottom from one level one clue. I did a level two and happened to get a black boater and ranger boots in the same clue. And I did two level three clues and ended up getting Gilded Platebody and Zamorak d'hide body. I personally enjoy treasure hunting. It always gives that chance of the random item worth millions each time you do one. And when you start off from nothing, it seems to give great profit (at least for me). But besides Barrows, I love doing the clue scrolls. I think they need to introduce more puzzle type clues like the sliding puzzles, and maybe introduce a sudoku clue. And perhaps if it's not too much to ask, an item that you can activate to get a random item (even though clue scrolls do that somewhat already) :-k
berbatovsky
When i first got members a month(ish) ago the thing that most excited me was treasure trails. I did about 30: 1 lvl 3 and about 15 each of lvl 2 and 1. What i realised was that the Runescape god's hate me and the best thing i've gotten is black(g) platebody, except for the lvl 3 where i got 30 nature, a rune pick, a rune dagger, a rune wc axe. The lvl 3 reward makes my average better but from the lvl 1+2 clues i got useless stuff that i could buy for less than 2k. I refuse to do any more clues actively (kill things i know will drop clues just for the clues). It's not that i lack patience, it's just i hate spending 30-45 mins walking from place to place to search boxes and dig in the ground for a black dagger and some mind runes. I don't play Runescape purely to make money, i play for enjoyment and clue scrolls are boring and gay. edit-sorted spelling
pamzheng
I just thought about that, well, I can make the best money out of woodcutting magic logs, but it's fun to do clues, and fun to get good stuff without having to pay the full price. But I'm too often dissapointed with clues, I have to put in too much hard-work for stuff that isn't worth it, I usually spend more money on these 'equip emote' clues then what I get in the end, so most often it isn't worth it. Well I remember my old days when I got lots of nice stuff, so that keeps me going.
swordwindtrtrtrt
I love treasure trails, and see plenty of people doing them. But the new Yuri clues have made treasure trails really, realy annoying sometimes. Sometimes if people spend ages doing a clue, and then get a crap reward, it puts them off it for a while. And today doing one of the uri clues, I saw 3 other people doing the same clue at the same place Doing a little bit of everything

Chocobodude0
I am treasure hunter, and I love being one. It is tons of fun, and I tend to lucky on twos and threes. I mean just yesterday I did a clue and got a Zammy skirt and a rune pl8 (t) in the same load. Sometimes it can be disappointing, but I'm still gonna keep doing it.
