Monsters of The Security Stronghold-Overlooked?

Featured Replies

I love using crumble undead on the ankous, I bring half an inventory of food (normally lobs or swordies) and fight them melee until they stop auto attacking me, then I just bring out my mage stuff and use crumble undead, I raised 1 lvl yesterday doing this for about 30 min. They have pretty good drops too.

Ankous are the best place to train for bloods and deaths, but that's only on p2p. I hear they don't even drop deaths on f2p, which means all you will be getting off them is some addy arrows.

They're really good xp though, at least 60-70k an hour with a salve and mid 90s stats. I can understand why less people don't go there though. Most people don't know about the portals in that dungeon. They think they have to walk through the entire maze every time to get back to the Ankous. It's a pitty I didn't train here until AFTER I was maxed out >.>

There's portals?

Explain please.

when you complete 1 level of SoS.. the next time you come again there is a portal to skip the maze at the start...

Hmm, that's 60k an hour? Not bad I guess, they are also pretty good for herbs to.
Good source of herbs? =P~ *rushes to flesh crawlers*

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

Good source of herbs? =P~ *rushes to flesh crawlers*

They are great to train on, and the drop rate for herbs is the best in the game, and unlike the Chaos Druids, they dont drop guams and merrintil 25% of the time.

Ankous are the worst place to train at. Each room is filled with high level noobs who should have been stuck at 86 combat if it were not for PC.

Stop your whining about pc, god.... Not sure what you are talking about, Ankous generally only has 3 or 4 people there and thats only in the one room right off from the ladder.

I wouldn't say flesh crawlers are good for training. But they are definitely good for drops. My brother camped there for ages he managed to get 500 unids (all above ranarr) and 40k+ fires. also he went from 18 herblore to 25 with just ident'ing guams, marrentills, tarromins, and harralanders :o

EDIT: Just realized you said the xp per hour, sorry.

Anyway, the only thing that the Security Stronghold is good for is Ankous, unless you can prove me wrong. 60k xp is ok I guess, but not that grand.

Plus with the amount of money I can fetch up, I'd rather use it then PC \'

I train on either ankous, dust devils or PC (not too often) so... ankous ARE good training
Your name is "bet you fail", and you're starting a business with your mom? I'm not even going to touch that.....

good xp, good if you need some fast free fire runes too...

hope they don't change it I might use it #-o

tordo2.png

My style is like this:

Granite plate with d legs, rune defender, and a salve against ankous.

Switch into guthans when HP gets low.

Repeat.

You act like the game community is like the stinking bowels of hell.... In all reality.. its much.. much... worse.

Flesh crawlers are my favourite place to get herbs. They generally aren't as busy as chaos druids (at least the ones that aren't in wildy), they drop a lot of herbs, and they drop nature runes, tons of fire runes (I get about 2-3k a trip from them), dust runes (which are great for house teles), and noted iron ore (I get around 120 or more ore per trip). Every so often they drop a half key, which is a nice little extra. The exp isn't great, but since I'm just down there for the herbs it's a nice bonus.

And I remind you all, its now an even better place to train after the upgraded salve amulet too :)

I don't think they nerfed minotaurs, unless it was recent, I haven't trained down there in a long time.

I've never trained at minotaurs in p2p before though.

But on my pure I went from..

30-40 attack

30-64 strength

with about 45k iron arrow drops and misc other items.

I hope they aren't nerfed. That's one of my training spots. I like flesh crawlers.

Must try ankous before membership expires! :o

i'm pretty sure ankous are f2p also.

They are, but many of their best drops are not f2p.

ahh i see, thanks a lot

Good training for F2P. In my opinion they were never overlooked, but that's ok. P2P has a lot better training spots though.

devotedconstructionkt0.jpg

Wait, what'd Jagex do to the minotaurs? I never heard about any change :-w .

On-topic: actually, the monsters in the SoS are mentioned quite a lot on these forums when ppl ask for good melee training spots before they're ready for blue dragons and the like.

perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is another

AMEN!

yes it is an alright place to train, i don't use it much but the times im done there, like when i had to kill ankous (

It's really annoying because the 20-minute rule applies, but in order to run around to break the 20-minute rule you have to go through the doors. Which is a pain, since it takes 20-30 seconds longer than normal each run.
