swampjedi
Skill capes. Third Age. Other high-priced distractors. Leads to - Lower consumer confidence. imaerehw14
i must admit, i know of many people in the clan i am in [garden tool] are selling their rares to buy 99's. most of the skills require money to get to 99, so i guess its a good reason. [garden tool] hum, oh well, i still like my green mask
spikerkid
Ya that's about it. More people are focusing on getting a skill cape to show off. Before skill capes everyone wanted rares to show off. Bought a red 40m just before skill capes.. now like 36.5m :x Quit RuneScape :)
Cha0sx
Because more people are selling their rares, skilling, and buying them back later. They also want to buy other things, (New Ttraills), and because I heard there was a rumor of rares crashing, that might be the reason some people are selling their rares away. imaerehw14
it may have just been me, but are rares rising again, maybe trying to level off at a definate #? i seem to remember a few days ago, santas were about 18.9-19.4ish, and now are 20-22? dudeonthenet
http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=617509 Already a topic about this as usually  . I'm trying to keep a weekly update of rare prices since I too bought a red mask for 40 mil after christmas and am not too happy about the drop. Adding prices as I see them: Small Rares- Santa: 20.2 M Green Mask: 18.8 M Blue Mask: 24.5 M Red Mask: ~36.5 M Disk: 11.75 M Easter Egg: 9.1 M Pumpkin: 9.3 M P-Hats- Purple: Between 142 M Red: Yellow: Green: 170 M White: Blue: About a week later on a Saturday, here are the prices: Santa ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ 20 M Green Mask - 19 M Blue Mask ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ 26 M (seems to be a lot of these) Red Mask - 35 M Disk of Return ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ 11.2 M Easter Egg ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ 9.1 M Pumpkin ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ 9.3 M Purple Phat - 140 M Red Phat - 200 M Yellow Phat ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ could not find Green Phat - 168 M White Phat - 250 M Blue Phat ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ could not find Conclusion: No dupe what so ever \ I'm always buying snapdragon seeds, name your price. jessy87
i guess noone was told what i was told... but okay here is what i heard, and i trust this guy and his info. i heard some guy found a bug in staking and abused a few blue phats out of it, he then sold several for 360m ea, creating a scare of a dupe because it was like 50mil(i believe) less then normal market price. hence why the "drop" the scare of the dupe made people panic, people who dont know this story are like well if santas drop ill only pay what they are now making it hard to get them back to pre-scare prices. Freesia
Recently there has been release of rare items that can match the price of rares and are much more useful, mainly 3rd age, its so far the best armor in the game that does not come with a price to use it Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(. Fredz
I'm still holding on to my believes that construction was the one thing that started this. It was the first real money sink in the game, and it did work as a charm. People that would usually have millions now had less millions. Besides rune and dragon armour (both priced very low) and no skill capes there were little things to use the millions on, now you could spend it on a house, or a monster for only 10million gp. The price of 1 gp just got higher, as gp per person ratio just changed. Besides rares dropping for like one week, there dident seem that construction made any hard impact. But as i had predicted, the changes to a large economy that had been going on since january 2001 would not crash or dramatically change over night, (unless a dupe happend that is). But gradually it changed the gp value. People you see today with 4mil in bank and 60 construction would actually have more like 6mil in bank if the construction skill never got released. But jagex did not stop there, more quests with seemingly poitnless rewards compared to the time invested. A new skill hunter, that dont generate any money at all. What it does however, is using up your gaming time, so while you were bussy training hunting to level 80, and gaining 0 gp in the process , you would normally do mining, woodcutting, fighting, or other activites that would give you money. Then we also have other minor impacts, as skill capes, and third age. Everything added up, and you see a smaller market for the classic rares. 21 lag piles, 4 Pjs, 2 Party hat kills, 67 newbs teached.

Easy to get and can give ownage range xp. Selling them could get you some money. And I hughly believe you underestimate the impact skill capes have/had. Before that I've read aproxematily one time someone was selling a rare to get a level. With skill capes now, way more people do that. I think the impace skill capes have/had is pretty big. I think just after construction is terms of money draining. ethebloody"]There's also a significant rise in ranger sets.. hrmm..... New TT items = less change of getting the "old" one. Duke_Freedom
Judging from the amount of negative threads regarding the short-term future of rares, that may very well be(come) the most important reason for their price drop in the short-term future soon either way: a negative market sentiment is never good for the prices of rares. For the rest - I personally do not believe there is one single good reason why rares have been going sideways / dropping over the past 6 months. I suppose it's more a combination of factors, varying from construction, third age, skill capes, the sideways fluctuation of rares itself, lower population growth and probably some other factors that I am forgetting as well. The value of my bank at its height. Estimated value at the peak of the rares market: 250 billion+.Most likely the largest trade in RuneScape ever. Estimated value at the peak of the rares market: 70 billion+.
Mayjest
Construction is a drain on the whole economy, whereas skill capes are more of an economical drain to the rares market. While construction reduces the overall gain of GP into the economy, thus making slightly less demand for rares, the skillcapes resulted in a lot more rares coming to market. So that's why it dropped. Once those who sold their rares buy it back, they'll stand in world 2 with their brand new fletching skill cape and the price will rise as per normal. Goals to get my skills back up to a barely respectable level on the high scores: Currently going for Bone to Peaches spell. It's amazing how boring doing the same repetitive task is! NETTY
Take a short trek over to RSC.. 17 members of VR were banned (6 of them being leaders/warlords/hc, 15 or so 120+ in level), the bannings stemmed from a single member abusing a staking bug where he was able to leave a stake immediately (unlike x-logging which takes a while), therefore making it impossible to lose a stake.. He won something around 5-8BIL, and gave large sums of cash to friends/sold off many of his items cheap.. MOST, if not ALL, of that money is now gone from the game (perm bannings), so the drop we're currently seeing will probably not last long. Its only an earshot from W22 duel arena to W2 Fally.
