This actually raised another question, do humans in general, just let go of their knowledge if it's not needed. After a person finishes school do they review their knowledge over the years?

She finally got the question right but lost on, "How many decades are in two millenia?". It's like Who Wants to Be A Millionaire but so much easier.

Alpha Centauri is not the closet star to earth, the Sun is the closes. Alpha Centauri is a star system made up of three stars so it is not even a Star. The stars in the system are called Alpha Centauri A, Alpha Centauri B and the third star is called Proxima Centauri. Out of the three stars the closest to our sun is Proxima Centauri. So answering Alpha centauri is wrong.

The idiot lady thought Mexico had a longer border with the US than Canada does with the US. And yes, it was the Sun, as it is the closest star, the category was like first grade astrology or something.

These questions are fifth grade and below. I doubt star systems and such will come up, especially not something like Proxima Centauri.

I didnt see the show but it sounds like something similar that was done on The Springer Show in the UK a few years back. People for the show would go on the streets of London and New York and vox pop people on what are supposed to be easy questions like "How many moons does the earth have". While obviously its edited to only show the stupid people it was still scary to see the nhumber of people who didnt know basic things, especially the Americans who seemed to lose almost every week lol.

i find this show one sided leaning towards the kids. the adults havn't read the text books in years so the "what is a pronoun?" question might have been hard for them while the kids could've just read that in their text book yesterday at school

arghhh!!!! NEVER confuse astrology with astronomy. One is a real science which helps us to understand how the world works. The other is pseudoscience designed to part gullible people with cash for horoscopes.

I hated that show, do they just expect the human population to be that stupid? And they moved House to put it on! Gah!

They are trick questions. A lot of people wouldn't think of the Sun as a star, so they'd be like "Umm...Geez...What's the closest star then...Alpha Centauri?" and they'd be wrong.

Hell I can't even spell allegiance and I am 20. Well it didn't come up as incorrect in spell check so maybe I can. I'd have to write it down to count the e's though.

Exactly. The show is just useless knowledge that makes the contestant look stupid when they necessarily aren't. Its been 20-30 years since these adults have been in elementary school and learned this useless information. Even I got several of them wrong, I didnt know what constelation the big dipper was in, didn't know what the largest of species of bear was, couldn't even think of the boat that the pilgrims sailed over in. Its only been 10 years for me, cant imagine what its like for someone who hasnt been in elementary school for 20-30 years.

If you said that Proxima Centauri is the closest star to earth you would be wrong. The sun is the closest star.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If the Question was 'What is the cloest star to our Sun' then the correct answer would be Proxima Centauri at only 4.22 light years away. Answering Alpha Centauri would be wrong. For the reasons I outlined in my previous post. Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B are relatively near to each other but I beleive Alpha Centauri A is slighlty closer currently.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In about 10,000 years the closest star to earth would then be Barnard's Star which is currently the 4th nearest.

They only answer like 4 questions a show... Also the kids there are obivously like, geniuses of their classes and were told the answers before the show :? One of the questions was like "Who was the first president to be impeached?" and it was like a 3rd grade question... Are you kidding?
