RuneScape on Miniclip, Jagex's worst decision ever?

JJGM

Recommended Posts

Since as long as I can remember, rs has been the top rated game on Miniclip. A lot of little kids go onto miniclip and play games, because they're generally easy and fun for them. When Jagex decided to let Miniclip host the game, oubviously it would bring a bunch of little kids to the game. This is when rs started to get...stupid?

Kids that just started playing want to be able to do more stuff right?

Like buy armor, train, kill stuff.. But they don't really know how, so they beg. 'Plzzzz free mony!!!!!'. I think thats where the 'noobiness' came from.

Even if RuneScape isn't on Miniclip anymore, the kids kept playing, told there brothers/sisters, friends, and it has spread from there.

So.. do you think that Jagex allowing Miniclip to host RS was their worst decision ever? I sure do..

It's still on Miniclip. And if it weren't for Miniclip, there wouldn't be an Oddment1 (me).

Jagex should go ahead and take it down. The little kiddies that would be attracted have gone to Club Penguin where mommy and daddy approve everything they do there. That's a level of annoyance Jagex could never get away with.

In terms of community? possibly, But it has been there for a LONG time, what it has done is generate ALOT of people who might get mom or dad to PAY for them that generates lots of revenue for jagex so the game can hire more customer support or update more, Adults get bored at desk job's too, I have met quite a few miniclip adults

Miniclip has brought at least one good to RuneScape -- me :P.

But seriously. I hate the kiddies and all, but where else could you have heard of RS? That's the only place they advertise!

no, it was the best desicion. They would not have had as many people in the game without miniclip.

I personally did not find out about runescape thru miniclip, but what makes me wonder is.. if jagex did not advertise at all.. where would they be?.. no where...

Thats why it is a smart move O:)

They could've paid for banner advertisements on large gaming sites such as Gamefaqs and whatnot. Miniclip destroyed the community of rs.

I found out about Runescape through a friend, who found it searching the web one day. (This was around 4 years ago). It just stuck, and while some of my friends quit, I've stayed with it.

But yeah, if mature players can find it without their advertising on Miniclip, why bother? Because Jagex is a Company. (I swear... this is the answer to most rants / discussions of this type.) The focus of companies are to generate revenue and profit. Through that profit, they can expand, increasing their profits.

Welcome to buisness. It just makes sense to advertise on popular websites, no matter how immature, if it brings potential customers into the game.

P.S. I am really against Miniclip.

Almost every argument against Jagex boils down to the fact that they don't give a damn about their customer base, and are more concerned with adding to their already ludicrous profit margin.

 That is NOT true, jagex does care about their players, if they didn't they wouldn't personally deal with autoers, read ban appeals(not automated), and give us holidays.(they don't have to, but they want to)

Also, jagex spends most of its profits on server maintenance, bills, employee paychecks, and much more NON-PROFIT things.

Okay, lets take a step backwards and look at it from JAGeX's point of view. *Spoiled little kids with parents who will give them a credit card if they scream loud enough, won't that make more money for them? People always forget that JAGex is a company. Sure they care about there older players, but isn't money the point of almost all company's?

*I don't mean those of us who have matured and I don't believe that many of us are the annoyances but, I can't tell for sure :?:

Ban appeals ARE automated. Jagex does NOT care abouts its players. Did you hear the other guy? The are a lucrative, money based, money driven company that uses mini clip solely for money only and allows MC to host RuneScape only cause Jagex knows they'll be making a ton of money from it.

Every time I appeal one of my bans I get a non-automated response, and the same for when I message them, if you get automated messages it's because the real people are busy helping other players. #-o

I think the best way to put it is that it exponentially increased the population of both the mature and immature groups in Runescape. The immature people just seem to stand out more, because there are more than there were. But, I'm sure if you look, you can find plenty of mature people that have come to find the game through Mini-clip, such as some people in this thread and myself (a "miniclip rs product :P ")

Another reason this may also seem to be true is, that as you grow older playing this game, you lose certain "noobish" actions that you previously had, and when other players now do them, it makes them seem very immature, I'm sure that some of us have had times in the past in which we were also immature kids, but have grown up since then.

Thats my idea.

I don't know why immature people seem to fancy Rs a lot more than other mmorpgs, but Miniclip is part of the cause, no doubt about that. For those of you who were not there before Rs started their partnership with Miniclip, the community was already starting to deteriorate. Miniclip pretty much gave the death blow.

Anyway, why is Runescape so attractive to annoying/immature individuals? Maybe that all those idiots are sane in the real world, but that for a reason or another they go nuts the moment they log in. It's true Rs is probably the easiest mmorpg to go nuts on. I don't buy that "they're just more noizy than the mature players" crap, those immature gits are everywhere, taking over Runescape.

As a simple MMORPG that is free to play and does not require a great deal of brainpower to start up, Runescape was destined to attract the morons, the kiddies and the immature players who are in part responsible for the apparent lack of a 'good' RS community. Yes, MiniClip probably did exponentially increase the number of such individuals; but hey, it's the internet - it was going to happen anyway. On the flipside, it brought JAGex profits which have in turn allowed them to update, fund more servers, hire more staff and improve the game in that respect. It's a Catch-22 thing, and as a business, I can't say I really blame them.

I honestly do hate it when people start using little kids as the scapegoat for all the game's troubles... If one update doesn't cater to the higher (allegedly more mature) spectrum, it's said to go to the children; if it caters to the high levels, it's said to be too hard. The above was just one of many examples.

Beggars are all ages, you know. If you claim that they don't know, why aren't you giving them the knowledge they so desperately need to survive the onslaught of snobs that look down on them, as if they were lepers or something? Do you think the Knowledge Base covers it all for them? What's wrong with giving a player on the other side of the spectrum (i.e. beggar, inexperienced) a helping hand to turn them around? Or are you content with just leaving them where they are so you have someone to pick on?

Besides, if you can't deal with the kids (or beggars) that come into the game then you've got a problem. Either work with them or ignore them, but don't go telling me without any concrete proof that Miniclip is to blame.

All you focus on is people complaining, no doubt you'll get upset.

What's wrong with giving a player on the other side of the spectrum (i.e. beggar, inexperienced) a helping hand to turn them around?

I can't talk for other people, but I did that alot back in Rsc. I would give out iron sets to random low levels. I made some friends that way. Now the nubs just seem to bite the hand that feeds them. I gave around 10 low levels iron sets with a friend a few weeks ago, they all barely said thank you, and immediately asked for more. Me and my friend proceeded to explain to them that they needed to earn their money by themselves, but they ignored what we said and proceeded to spam our trade boxes. Face it, this is a real problem, it isn't in people's head. You should pay a visit to f2p or the rants before you declare it's all rubbish. Immature people are everywhere.

Besides, if you can't deal with the kids (or beggars) that come into the game then you've got a problem.

If you can't deal with the complainers, of which you don't even need to read the threads of, then you've got a problem.

Anyway, your whole thing is off-subject. Fact: Runescape has one of the most horrible mmorpg communities. Fact: This thread is about miniclip, if you're fed about complainers, go to the rants forum and "complain"

its all a matter of perspective. i for one, don't see them much, and when you do come across them, thats what the ignore list is for  and as for miniclip, it did bring alot of revenue in, witch makes good business sense. and btw, with out miniclip, i would have never become addicted to rs
