I have a message for anyone looking to post the above chart in the future. Don't, because you make yourself look like an idiot as you don't know what you're quoting. That simply measures the number of times "Runescape" is looked up via Google search versus the total number of searches made. It says nothing towards the active strength of the game (and doesn't take into account people searching Runescape via other search engines or looking up Runescape related information without typing in 'Runescape'). Just so you know, even started at the 'purported' decline from late 2006/early 2007, the number of active Runescape subscribers has gone up. In fact, Runescape has more subscribers than just about any other MMO out there. (You can go here to look at MMO's by subscription.) Granted, that's a bit old, and the current membership now may be a bit lower than it was two years ago, but that's a far cry from the "Runescape is dying!" doomsayers that like to come out every now and then.

No. Next question.

Weird. When I went off to college, I played Runescape more, not less :P But, seriously. People quit all the time. I don't know why it's made into a big deal. Hell, I myself have "quit" probably ten times now, and yet I'm still playing.

Wait, I'm confused. What happened? Edit: The third one is hilarious. Dude says he spent 3 years getting those stats, but he was 15M total experience.

It also occurs to me that for the time I've spent in game, my total level should be far higher than what it is. I guess too much goofing off/PK'ing back in the day is the reason why. -
This is a non-sequitur. No, something ridiculous like jumping off a bridge to your death in 24 hours isn't going to be enforced. In fact, such an agreement wouldn't be legally binding anywhere under any circumstance. It's simply not reasonable. As it is, no one has said that ToS are themselves laws. What's been said is that the ToS is legally binding. Before you create your Runescape account, you agree to abide by Jagex's terms and conditions. This is clearly stated on the website. Anyway, here are a few cases on the subject. It seems to me that Jagex has some ground to stand on.

It's because there are few legit players left. There is little point in levelling up no one really cares anymore. Also when your stat's are good people just accuse you of botting. Nice theory, but wrong. It's because people stockpiled ingredients for months in anticipation of BXP weekend. Now the market is flooded with people trying to sell of their supplies, hence the lower prices. -
Quitting over the RaF update is ridiculously stupid.

...Fifteen years ago. This is one of the problems with society. People are always trying to hold others' mistakes above their heads, no matter how long ago those mistakes occurred. At some point in time, an individual should be allowed to live and operate without whatever they did in the past constantly throwing the proverbial dark cloud over their head. Yes, but in this case we, along with Jagex, know the details. He's not some victim of changing laws. He did some stuff that was clearly very, very immoral. And I'm fine with this coming back to bite him the ass. I don't mesh with pedophiles. Keep in mind, he isn't just a sex offender, he clearly engaged in acts of storing and transfering child pornography. I'm not saying we should chase pedophiles with pitchforks and torches... ... I'm typing it. On another note, I'm gonna leave this thread. I have trouble staying calm talking about pedophiles and I don't need a suspension. Chasing him with pitchforks and torches? Really? He did the crime. He acknowledged he was wrong. He did his time. Ever since, he's apparently been working to piece his life back together. Why should he continue to be reminded of something he did 15 years ago? Everyone makes mistakes; no one wants those mistakes to be constantly lorded over them for the rest of their life and he most certainly shouldn't be subjected to the unbridled hate of people who think he shouldn't be allowed to live any kind of normal life. As it is, this guy didn't deserve to be 'called out' like that by Jagex. That's [cabbage]d up in so many ways. Apparently, Jagex seems to believe that he's still a danger. If they didn't, why else would they call him out like this?

Just because you're a registered sex offender, doesn't mean you're some 40 year old who had sex with a 15 year old. You can get slapped with a sex offender charge if you're as little as three, might be two, years older than the person you're sleeping with. Anyway, this is kind of [cabbage]. I mean, if it's in his past, it's in his past. Plus it has little bearing, none actually, on the maintenance of Rune Village.

I rarely get Runescape related emails. I think I've seen one. I tend to get Battlenet/WoW related emails out the wazoo, though. Which is weird, because I haven't logged into Battlenet or played WoW in at least 4 years. -
I'm fairly sure that ROTM will bring with it a dragon x-bow. I'm slightly interested in that, though my excitement is tempered. A new mage spell doesn't really excite me. It will more than likely be an ancient spell, and I haven't used an offensive ancient magic spell in years. Depending on the spell, it could be useful for PK'ing.

31-Aug-2011 The Branches of Darkmeyer

What the [cabbage] is wrong with Jagex? Borrowed power is still fantastically [cabbage] USELESS. Adding high alch is an insult, especially since it costs like 3 or 4 times as much to do it using Borrowed Power as it does to actually use it on the normal spell book. -

Kind of sad to see what's become of PK'ing. -
Final Fantasy XIV is garbage. Of course, that's on the PC but still...

I was about to go to sleep anyway. ...Right as soon as I did one more farming run <_< Edit: Nope. Can't get in. Says my account hasn't logged off from last session.

It would probably be sold to someone else. If Runescape is still profitable and there is money to be made from it, someone will pick it up.

I'm pretty sure there was tip.it in 2003. Iirc, there was a forum switch over or something like that and everyone had to re-register, though my memory is a bit sketchy. Pretty much that's why you see the earliest join dates as in 2004.

24-Aug-2011 - Save 15% on the price of membership!
Sly_Wizard replied to Stev's topic in General Discussion
This is an asinine statement, least because even if every new member was a bot, it'd still be a new member. If people were willing to pay a higher price for Runescape than they currently are, and Jagex would acquire more revenue than they otherwise would be raising prices, then Jagex would raise the price to play Runescape. However, Jagex isn't raising their prices right now, meaning that , as far as Runescape is concerned, we can assume that the market is more-or-less in equilibrium right now. By that I mean that the present cost of membership generates the max amount of revenue for Jagex and either increasing the price of membership or decreasing the price of membership would result in less revenue. But, anyway, to answer your question, here's how. For your information, there was a post on the RSOF concerning bonus experience weekend a few weeks back in which a J-Mod said he expected BXP weekened to be in November because Fall is generally when membership is lowest. Now, we'll just assume that membership is lowest in the Fall and that Runescape follows the law of demand (as price decreases people are more apt to purchase Runescape membership). Offering a 15% discount in the price of Runescape membership over a three month period, which would pretty much cover all of the Fall in which membership is lowest, would increases demand, which means more membership relative to what Jagex would have gotten otherwise and more revenue. Of course, some smart [wagon] will probably chime in with this decreasing Jagex's profits as pre-existing members take advantage of a lower membership relative to what they're currently playing, but that's not likely to happen on a big scale. I'll probably still be playing through the fall. So will many people here. Few of us are going to take part of the promotional offer as that would require changing the way we pay for the game. The people most likely to take part in it are the people who otherwise wouldn't be members. That's revenue for Jagex that they wouldn't have received otherwise. This is similar to how fast food restaurants tend to offer good deals at the beginning of the New Year in order to offset people wanting to eat out less due to their New Year's resolution of wanting to lose weight. Some people simply live to complain about anything. Newsflash to some of you; Jagex is a company. That includes Jagex. All companies want to make money. Complaining about a company offering a promotional offer-- which pretty much EVERY company does to attract paying customers, as it's an integral form of marketing-- makes absolutely no sense at all. -

Sly_Wizard replied to Stev's topic in General Discussion
Jagex offering a discount on membership? That's completely unthinkable! It's not like no other company ever has ever offered their product(s) for a reduced price or run a promotional offer at some point in time to attract more customers. No. Just Jagex has done that, and doing so is appparently a sign of desperation. You know, it's comments like these which lead me to believe that the real problem is that some players are, as you say, truly pathetic and will complain about anything Jagex does. I think that some people forget that Jagex is a business, and as a business they're going to do things to attract more paying customers. The fact of the matter is that some players-- quite possibly some players would would not have renewed their membership-- will take advantage of the offer, and that's always a good thing for the future of the game. -
