Hell-Raven
I'd go with 85 smithing, since money isn't so needed in f2p... And skills > money sitting in bank.
mobius112
just get your mining up so that you can mine everything and get the lvls for free. It takes months to mine and smith your own materials for 80-85 mining, buying the bars it'll take less than 2 weeks. Mining so fast that you can literally watch this bar go up. Howie101
With 11m you can turn quite a large profit making steel bars until 85 smithing. Dunno what the profit turnout would be but you would obviously have a lot more than 11m and 85 smithing. All depends if you want 85 smithing NOW. Smithing rune bars makes some profit, but you may not have any money to start off with.
unkn0wnwarrior
I say go for the smithing level. With 85+ smithing, you can make the money back, and then some.

Xanotex
11M, make 9M more and buy yourself a green mask or maybe a santa hat. 80 is allready impressive, why 85? For that rune? Pff.. I'd rather have a rare item instead of raising a skill 5 lvls up. You allready got 80, stay with that and use your 11M to train other stats ooh eeh ooh ahah, ting tang wallawallabingbang m8
atfiid
Ok im standing in front of a tough choice here Ive always had a goal to get lvl 85 smithing, and now i have enough money to get it. But the problem is, that I cant just waste my 11m (im f2p) I dont want to leave them lol and my smithinglvl is 80 atm So what would you choose? lvl 80 smithing w 11m lvl 85 smithing w 0gp ? funny enough i have same goal, and same smith lvl atm--80, and similar amount of money to waste- i mean invest, and then certainly, same decision to make. rofl. my choice is: go for it! 11m is not hard to make. but before doing that, personally i will raise my combat to over 100 so that i can mine runite safely ( i have 85 mining btw which helps a lot). also i suggest choosing mith and steel bars than iron. it may cost a little more (1-2m more i guess), but a lot faster (50 or 100% faster xp) than iron. Aslo you should just alch pl8 for mage xp. dont waste time selling. good luck
silver24-7
Well, for me its like: Skills > Money But How does it cost you 11m? Make steel plates, alch them, i think that wont cost you 11m. ~ColossuS~ Steel bars are 550-600 each so lets say they are 575 each. Each steel plate requires 5 steel bars so it costs 2875 gp to make each steel plate. Each steel plate alchs for 1200 gp. The loss per steel plate would be 2875+300(nature rune)-1200 = 1975 gp. You get 187.5 xp per steel plate so it costs 10.5gp/xp using steel bars. Level 80-85 is a little over 1.25m xp so it would cost well over 11m to buy steel plates and alch them. (If you bought the ores and smelted them it would be a little bit cheaper but probably still over 10M. Mining your own ores to smith is just not feasible due to the amount of time it would take if you sole goal is 85 smithing). if you need this many steel it will end up costing you 600 each easily ;) if not more.. I'm Finally 99 mage ^^ (and cooking...) :PSilver24-7 -
ib2phat4u
i still don't understand why this has to be an all or nothing deal get 83 smithing now then come back a bit later and get that 85 but i can understand why you want 85 so bad (i do too)
pati
I had the (almost) same question years ago smith 70 or 2m :D now I have smith 78 and over 20m conclusion: in the end you get both 8-) it's only a matter of time note: I was f2p back then, now I am member Computers will never be above humans because we made them. That's what monkeys used to say about us. harpy18
First of all, if you're an F2P what are you going to spend all of your money on? You should probobly go for the smithing, but have you thought about spending a few mill on whatever it is that you want, and buying ore with the rest? Legoluke
if you wanted to take a bit more tine doing it, smith in east varrock, rather than west, and sell the iron plates as you go. You can average selling each plate for 200gp+ before world hopping. It might double your time, but save a mil or two? No idea, just random thoughts lol. xSxqPowerx
Mmmmm tough choice. I'm not really much of a skills person, and I'd probably never even use my 85 smithing :P But I guess I would pick 85 smithing just cause 11m isn't a huge amount to me now, and I'd probably never get smithing up otherwise.
