The Economy: Current Rares

Recommended Posts

I've been watching prices lately for a lot of mini-rares: Santas, 3rd Age, and semi-rare equipment (Furies, DChain, Barrows). Here are some quick observations.

Santas: Price is fluctuating +/- 500K from 19M. Seems to be relatively stable; demand isn't high enough for merchers to significantly inflate prices

3rd Age: Very low supply, but demand is inconsistent. Prices vary M's a day: unstable prices. With stable phat prices, looking cooler than phats, and more use than phats, 3A might see the meteoric growth characterized by discontinueds.

Furies: Stabilized at 4M, after a big drop.

DChain: Price fell to 13M, then stabilized to 13.5M. I suspect that Dchain prices will continue to fall to even below 5M.

Barrows sets: With Torag at around 1.3-.4M, we're seeing armor set prices bottom out at ~1M(torag)-4M(guthan) within the next year.

Which of the small rares do you think will get a price boost this summer? With the aging of skill capes, the number of people aiming to obtain expensive items will go up. 99 Cooking, 99 FM, 99 Fletching capes are getting old. That means more demand for items, more buyers, and more money willing to be spent on these items.

people are alot more working towards 99's then to getting rares, but im going to say all rares will stay the same, 3rd age will go down same with dragon and barrows. But new armour will come out and drive the prices down even more.

99 prayer is getting more and more worthless as the prices of chains and dag drops fall, as well as barrows.

Rares should see a big jump at the end of the summer in my prediction...

rares are limited therefore they will always go up.

For example, currently 99percent of the people are trying to buy 99 skill capes instead of rares therefore 1percent demand of limited rares is a set price.

In a year it will still be 99percent of people trying to buy skill capes instead and 1 percent trying to buy rares. However that 1percent of people who want rares is a higher number then previous 1percent as runescape is a growing game and rares are limited.

Santas will most likely take a jump at some time of the summer. Probably not a huge jump to the stars, but still rise a bit. I believe this because discontinued items follow the player choices a lot: by the summer most of the mid leveled members should have gotten their first skill cape, we've gotten more potential f2p and p2p buyers and people got time to make cash at their summer vacations.

Furies will be around the current price unless we get another way to get onyx cheaper. It got the same curse as runite armour: it can't drop as there's a solid buying price (=onyx price vs runite high alch price) but it's too common already to take any jumps up.

Dunno what kind of a fetish do you have on chains :P When they announced the graphical kq update, you started to preach how they'll drop. My on guess is that without any new plate bodies added to the game, the price will still be around 10m after the summer. If we get new plate armours, the price of dc depends on few factors: level&quest reqs, way it's gotten, what it looks like and what stats does it have.

3rd age is interesting. They are really useful for stakers and for people who stake over 100m at once it's nothing to buy those. The demand for them is small (=limited) but with their current supply, their fall won't be anything big.

At barrows I totally agree with you.

you say guthans will go around 4mil.. I don't think it will because guth spears have stayed around 5-6mil for a verrrrrrry long time even though the rest of the set had dropped significantly

It's just a matter of time. More and more sets come every day, people don't use them forever and sell to others, etc. Eventually it will drop to 4m, maybe less.

Well this summers looks like it is the last breakthrough for rares to ever rise, after the end of the summer I suppose it will just keep dropping until the next ever time where rares will be demanded. People seem to start losing interest in the rares market.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

It lost you money..so what? Why not enjoy the item and not mind the cash value. Even if it goes down, you know that in time there's only once place it can go. ^^^^ up up up. I mean, unless you are just trying to invest and resale, then just enjoy the item.

You can't really predict the market, ranger boots where 700k - 800k for a long time,

now there are over 2million if Jagex release something new it can make the demand for items go up again.

But saying nothing happens to change the market to bad hohto's the guy I think got closest.

While we are on the topic, what rare do you think will be best to buy santa's or H'masks? to make some profit with?

Mask prices have taken a large hit. Green masks will very soon come down to 16m, I think the max they have ever been was 22m?. I bought my red mask for 38mil a few months back, now they're 34m. I'm ok with the red mask, but I'm hoping to sell my green mask soon for hopefully more than 16m. :|

No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.

The max green mask is around 23m.... I should know cus thats the price i got mine for :wall: Im thinking that around the beginning of summer the prices will jump a little, but by the end of summer they will go lower than b4. :ohnoes:

i agree with you.. we all know we're all planning to do mass leveling during summer vacation (most of us =P), this would bring about more money for everyone, causing some more people to buy more rares, this increase in demand could raise prices..

i think barrows and DC will drop as said above.. maybe not DC to 5M.. and by the time it does, something else would come out to take its place.. 3a could either go up or down.. cuz theres heightened demand.. but on the other hand.. more will be coming into the game over time

I bought 3rd age legs when they were 30m, last time I checked they were 80m, I don't check often..

It was predictable though.

Everyone thought "I'm not going to waste my money on it, it just came out, I'm going to wait until prices drop"

Beep, wrong answer.

Because, a mod or Andrew, I don't remember who, but someone important, stated that the odds of getting a 3rd age item (any item of 3rd age, including the less expensive ranged and mage) from a clue was the same as getting a d shield haft out of a skeletton(or full I dont remember). Now, the odds of that happening is 1 out of 10 000.

So each time you do a lvl 3 clue, you have a 1 out of 10 000 chance of getting a 3rd age item.

Conlusion, someone knowing that a while ago (and being very loaded) could have stocked up on 3rd age items and be insanely rich now.

And second conclusion, lvl 3 clues are a waste of time, 3rd age is impossible to get, and the other odds of 'good items' are pretty low, and prices low, and demand low. Waste of time.

I think all the prices have to do with how many people we get in the game this summer. I know that once a person has all the skill capes that the want for the mean time they will go for rares. If rares go down this summer then something is seriously wrong...

There's a good point here, even though it's overstated. I tell people that rewards are a very bad reason to do clues -- go buy the stuff if you want it. But that doesn't mean clues are a waste of time. Some people find them fun. This is a game after all. If you like them, do them. But don't do them for profit.

Clues are still worth it to do. Yea in most cases they give you something like a magic shortbow, 50 natures, 13 sharks and a rune hatchet, but still. 3rd age are ridicilous rare, but it doesn't change the fact that other items got their values too. You may not come a billionaire from clues, but I still don't throw them away and heck, I'm richer than 99% of the other users on these boards.

Although I'm not an avid Treasure Trailer, this is one way that Jagex can slowly inject a fresh crop of rare items into the game. They may one day create lvl-4 clue scrolls and make this a chance to get rare items of holidays past. :-k (But highly unlikely #-o )

I'd like to correct that, there are 12 different 3a items(4 per set, 3 sets). So the chances that you get a piece are 12 on 10000 or 1 on 833 clues.

And how about big rares, phats, crackers, what are the exspectations on those? Phats seem to be stable, have they really reached their max? Will they go down? up? remain at the price they are at?

And if you really want to show off, buy 3rd age, you'll get even 126 with several phatsets follow you asking to see it in a trade.
