Is it still a 99, or a skill cape?

My Fletch Cape:

I wanted a better cape than the "I picked flax for 3 hours" cape (read: obby cape). I also wanted a 99 stat and fletching was quick and profitable.

My future Mage Cape:

I was 89 Mage when I started going for 99 Fletching and will be 94 when I finish alching the bows. Originally my goal lvl was 94, but then Dream Mentor came out with a super ownage spell at 96. I'm definately getting 96 for slayer purposes so I might as well get the final 3 lvls. Also 99 Mage would help me while runecrafting. Like 70% of your mage def comes from your mage lvl, therefore the higher my mage, the more tbs, entangles, and ice spells from nooby abyss pkers splash on me :D. Finally it would give me a nice +4 prayer cape for things like Aberrant Specters and it would be better than the Fletch Cape. Once I get this cape, my Fletch Cape will be in my costume room like forever.

I think the majority of people are doing it for the cape(s) if they are only going for one or two 99s. I think that people for aiming to get six, seven or even more 99s are doing it for the achievement.

skill capes are just another emotion that you show of to your mates that your better than they are i don't have a 99 or a main im just a lvl 50 noob but i don't think it is nessesary to have the giant cape it should be something smaller not showing off so much

Sounds like you love to waste your time training skills that won't do anything.

Either that, or you really desperately want an easy trimmed cape. If thats the case, congrats. My 99 attack came from playing the game and killing monsters. My 99 HP also came this way, but during 98 I spent 100 PC points on HP because I was so excited about finally having 99 HP that I just wanted to get it done.

I got 99 thieving because I liked thieving. And I had 90 in classic.

I got 99 cooking because an untrimmed thieving cape looks stupid. ^_^;

I got to 99 the first time because when you get to 99 in a skill, the numbers don't go up any more.

I got to 99 the second time because when you get to 99 in a skill, the numbers don't go up any more.

::' Etcetera <.<

Capes are rather nice though - same as obby cape but with prayer bonus when trimmed, and a funny little emote you can do. \'

Thieving and mining were my favourite skills all along. Before, I had thought I wanted 99 in those 2 but just lacked that... motivation. Skill capes are the extra motivation that pushed me to 99 and made it more worth it than ever.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

I think i remember bumping into you at the heroes guild rune rocks around the day you got 99. You were so happy to have 99 mining for the love of the skill lol.

I got my mage cape because mage is my favourite skill and it had nothing to do with the cape. 99 fletch followed shortly just to trim my mage cape and the fact that i wasn't far off. i've worn that cape once to try the emote and it went straight to my cape rack and hasnt left since.

I think many people who get 99s is to show off, and a skill cape simply helps them do that, but you can tell which people want a skill cape and which ones don't. In skills (construction, smithing) you have to get 99 before you can do anything, so you mine as well get the cape. In some skills (hunter, herblore) you dont need to get to 99 to get everything, and there are no added bonuses fo getting 99, so its simply to show off.

Then there are skills like fishing and combat skills where there is not somthing listed speccifically for 99, but you get faster/more powerful with the levels. Thats is where you have to guess.

Personally, I get levels and leave them there. I got 76 fishing, fished some sharks, got 77 and stopped. That is because I dont want to level up a skill that I dont really care about.

On another thought, its the same thing as stat signatures. They are simply so others can see your stats and admire you for getting them. Now some people simply have stat sigs because they dont have any other signature, so again, its just a guessing game.

i'm getting 99 agility because i enjoy it and think it would be a better first 99 then my other 90 skill cooking. in the future i might max the cb skills and fishing cooking wc fm so that thier maxed(i enjoy those too) and i a high cb level is always cool plus when you train slayer you get cb.

Personally I couldn't care less about capes and have no idea why anyone would want to "show off" on a game. I maxed my melee almost two and a half years ago because I enjoyed pking so much back then and was living in the wilderness. The only reason I bought a cape is because it's got good stats.

I certainly wouldn't have got a 99 just for a cape and I have no interest in getting other 99s purely for the cape.

However I think the amount of 99 cooking and fletching capes around shows that I am in the minority.

For me personally, no, having a nice looking cape to wear is a great bonus, but not the reason :P I had 4 99s before skillcapes (melee), I then got thieving after they were released, but this was because I always liked thieving, and Pyramid Plunder made it very easy :oops: After that I got 9, just because I was sick of looking at 96 (i'd been 96 for almost a year) :lol:

I just enjoy the feeling of finally 'completing' a skill. Although when I finally decide to push for 99 Slayer, the cape will be a major incentive, it looks so nice :XD:

yeah they just get them to show off, but honestly i have no respect for 99 cookers or fletching simply because there too easy to get and far to cheap

No respect ? You really think they can just buy the logs and fletch ? No! They have to stick to the computer for hours! <.<

First of all, please excuse the lack of apostrophes; the key is broken on my keyboard. XD

Im rather lazy when it comes to working on skills, so I only have one 99, and thats cooking. Ironically, out of all the fish I needed to get 99 cooking, I bought only 24k lobsters (which is a decent amount, but I probably ended up fishing more than 20k each of monks and sharks, who knows how many of my own lobsters, and before fishing cooked a decent amount of other things), although a friend of mine was very generous in letting me cook his monks and sharks for him (we would fish together, which makes fishing almost bearable XD). So I do feel some sense of accomplishment from it.

To finally get around to the actual topic, I didnt get 99 cooking for the cape. The cooking cape has got to be one of the ugliest capes Ive ever seen. Oh, I bought one when I finished, but I never wear it unless Im working on my combat. My quest cape is way prettier, and my legends cape has it beat by a mile. Heck, even the black cape I got from a highwayman is nicer. I got 99 cooking because Ive been playing RS for quite some time and I figured I should get around to getting a 99; it was almost embarrassing not having one. XD

I got both 99 Woodcutting and Fletching because they are my favorite skills...but if skill capes weren't around I might have only worried about getting 99 WC because it helps getting it up, but there really isn't a need to get 99 Fletching, Fletching is mainly a money making skill, thats the main reason mine is high, for the money.

Nowadays the majority of players just go for a level 99 skill because of a way to brag with a skillcape.

I had 2 99s before they released the capes. To me the capes are just an added bonus to the feeling of completion when you achieve the last level in a particular skill. ::'

For most it's to show you have a 99 skill with a pretty cape, but they don't care about the 99 skill if you follow me.

Either that, or you really desperately want an easy trimmed cape.

1. I actually "enjoy" firemaking. A lot of people will probably doubt that, but ask the people I played with back in classic.

2. Yes, I do want a trimmed cape. In my first post.

~~~ Seems like a lot of people are on both sides of the spectrum. Good to know there's still some people getting 99's for the sake of having a 99 or that you liked the skill. ::'
