I don't really use sarcasm on the game itself unless one of my friends asks something really noobish. As for the forums, that's different story...

I'll use sarcasm to a large extent when I come across one of those people who are blatantly rude just because they have an "I'm better than you" mindset. They'll usually try to come off with a witty remark to put me down but nearly all of the time I'm able to turn it around and insult them with it. At this point I just give them the benefit of the doubt that they sense the sarcasm in it, but even then they don't understand it so they'd rather just pretend that they do and normally the conversation ends along the lines of "You trying to be funny noob? I should report you". At this point it's the ignore list for them and the rest of my day for me. :)

 

 

 

But to answer your question, yeah it's pretty pointless, but fun nevertheless.

I use sarcasm all the time. Just about everything out of my mouth has some kind of sarcasm attatched to it. Very few people know that I am being sarcastic, and normally reply harshly and defensively. I think that sarcasm (when used effectively and understood by the majority ) is some of the funniest humor around, and therefore should be used.

If someone asks me for some random item when im doing something, and i use sarcasm, they can't tell the difference. "Oh yea, I have a bucket with me." They can't tell, so they trade me anyway.

I guess I can say I greatly used it during my RS "career," too bad that game that calls itself Run Escape, Rune Scape, or even Runes Cape for that matter, is simply too dull for me these days. It is apparent that the highly civilized scapers on these forums are well educated, mature, and polite people, and I'm sure your IQ is above that of Leonardo Da Vinci. I guess that applies to those 3333 idiots on the RS Forums. Guess I'll leave this mess now!

Sarcasm owns. I use it all the time. In real life and on the internet. Luckily, all of my friends in real life and in RuneScape understand it. I love using sarcasm on the people who use lame comebacks such as "Yo mama.". They never understand it and they end up shutting the holes in their faces or they use more lame comebacks. :P

Yes, I do use it all the time. And I am amazed by the lack of perception in Runescape, and on tip.it.

 

Even with smileys, it seems some people just never get it.

 

Sometimes the only way to make it obvious is to misspell every word, and use leet-speak.

i don't use sarcasm because too many people don't catch on and think i'm just being mean. #-o :wall:

I tend to use sarcasm in-game when being annoyed by someone, and telling them to shut up and or leave doesn't work. Most of the time, people don't realize it's sarcasm, however, I have seen people understand the whatever it is I tell them.

I use sarcasm all the time... sometimes it annoys people at mossies.

Sarcasm is like a double-edged sword. Or maybe a faulty hand grenade, because it blows up in your face more often than not.

 

 

 

I rarely use sarcasm, simply because the other person doesn't get it.

Me: Yeah, and my main is zezima

 

Some Other Guy: Really? Wow!

 

Me: That was sarcastic.

I can't think of other examples off the top of my head, but it's not fun (for me, at least) to use sarcasm when the other guy doesn't get it.

People in RS and people on these boards don't know each other at all. They only have the text to go by. So I don't think it's so much a problem of IQ and intelligence, as it is a problem of environment. Irony and sarcasm are a kind of humour that belongs in a group of people who know each other well and who can read each other, often to the exclusion of the people who don't. It's just the nature of sarcasm.

 

 

 

Not so sure about that. I was mining in the guild, when someone entered the guild, saying "Need free coal!!!!" and mining. I said "The mining guild appears to be giving out free coal." Everybody (except that macroer over there) said some form of "lol", except him. He started asking "Where?wut dwarfe do i ask?"

 

 

 

I had to tell him that clicking on the black blobs would give you high chances of getting a heap of coal

Yea It's actualy pretty annoying because I live in Australia my friend in Scotland i said I'm F2P and he said that's rubbish but it was hard to tell if he ment it was bad or i was lying? :o It's also annoying because people call me a noob for cutting willows in f2p when I'm level 100 and they can't detect sarcasm :P

Generally all I say outside of pm chats is "gf" or the # level of x skill, but I do often get annoyed at beggars. Very annoyed. Often, if I'm in a crowded area gathering something (like salmon fishing near Edge), there is usually someone begging for this or that.

 

 

 

Them: Can I have free fish? Pl0x? (To the fishermen or whatever nearby)

 

Me: Can I have free Ahrims? Please? Pretty Please? (I like Ahrims, but never plan on getting them)

 

 

 

Most informed people nearby get a good kick out that.

I'm hardly ever sarcastic. I don't have to mask my insults with sarcasm lol. If I believe you're stupid, I'll come right out and say it.

Yes, I use sarcasm quite frequently both in-game and on the forums.

 

 

 

One thing that I learned from Wild Goat here, is to put [sarcasm] and [/sarcasm] around your sarcasm. That way there's no mistake.

It is hard to use online sarcasm but I think using "sarcasm tags" such as [sarcasm] insert text here [/sarcasm] will help you achieve it.

 

 

 

For your question, I sometimes use sarcasm.

My friends have fortunetly gotten used to it. And it isn't much of a problem if people can't understand your sarcasm, let them live in unknowing-ness. 8-) Be a liiiiittle careful though since some Mods might take sarcasm seriously/consider it spam.

its kinda hard to detect, specially on the internet, i do it, but i make sure that people know im being sarcastic...

i never use sarcasm with my friends on pm, but i use it constantly whenver any1 is being anoying to me. If they don't get the sarcasm, i guess it proves my point, right? If theyre not smart enough to know higher levels of speech besides NOOB!, then i won the argument!
