the decline of runescape

Featured Replies

i am not usually a poster around theese parts just a looker but some things just bring to my attention that ive logged out just to post this...

runescape as a community (not so much tip it <3) its well scum i would estimate 80% of runescape has scammed, cheated, betrayed freinds, backstabbed there freinds etc....

we all know rs has auoter problems, and other problems, but a new problem i have discovered is the sheer lazyness of people, it wasnt so bad a little while ago, but now its beyond a joke....

take for example, im happyly slaying 163 abbysal demons, "oh good finally a nice task" go there slayer about 50 of em, random person logs in, "can i please have a free whip, im really poor" my response "no sorry, i only have one and im using it" naturally his response "if you get one can i have" in turn i said "no sorry i dont think begging constitutes as a worthy reason for me to hand over an item that costs 1.5m+ and the time ive spent training so i could kill the monster that drops them" then soon after i said " why dont you just go make some money," to wihc his reply "i dont know how" so after mindless banter he said im 79 woodcut, so i advised him to go chop some logs to make some cash, he said no it takes to long, i said well in the time uve been her begging you could have atleast chopped 100 logs+ i suggested he earned his cash then he said " ive earned all my life after my grandad died, after asking why he would use that as an excuse to ask for pixels i assumed he was lying becuase he didnt seem to botherd, but it sickens me some one would say something like that to obtain pixels in an online rpg.......

you get idiots like this quite often at abbysal demons, and other highlevel monster areas, they range from banks to Mage bank sucking the life out of hardworking players.........

anotehr example, get a random Pm, "hey wats your fishing level"

"its 80 why?"

"can you fish me some sharks please"

"why cant you jsut go buy some"

"i only have 800gp"

"well why dont you just go earn 150k for the sharks"

"becuase it takes so long?"

"so you want me to waste my time getting you free sharks?"

"yes please if you dont mind"

*adds to ignore*

just another example of begging i have received in the past hour or so, it happens quite often we see it on a daily basis, i for one am fed up of people to lazy to work for cash when there are so many ways, i remember that days of picking & spinnning flax and selling bowstrings for hours id do it, but feel a sense of accmomplishment when i spent the money knowing id earnt it honestly...........

sorry guys about long read i just dont feel like logging into rs now -.- :|

Avatar by me; don't steal!

People are stupid, Ive learned to live with it... The only problem is my Ignore List is now absolutely full

I forget who it was, but somebody figured out that the amount of scammers, autoers, morons and noobs in RS has increased 1200% since 2004. Thats a lot of people to put on your Ignore List.

Pasty.png

Some people wonder why most people have private chat turned to friends while playing Runescape.

And the reason is right there, you just get spammed with beggars if you have it on.

When you need to reply "Sorry I don't want to give you my hard earned money for free to a total strangers" more than 10 times an hour it just gets too annoying.

Yes it does degrade in game value and the gaming experience.

I for one only engage in a conversation when my conversation partner is not interested in my money or want to ask 'stupid' questions that could easily be answered by doing a simple knowledge base search.

No need for the ignore list, just simply ignore.

21 lag piles, 4 Pjs, 2 Party hat kills, 67 newbs teached.

There will always be begging in rs, we should spend all our time focusing on other problems like autoing and such

Thanks SkyFleet for the awsome siggy!

Don't you love commercialism? In 2004/05, these would be the people who don't have enough money to even think about the members game, find the free game, get bored with the free game, and leave after 2 weeks.

Of course, these are the people who get attracted to these types of games easily, and so now that there are proportionally many many more of them, a bunch are going to slip through the cracks and stay around for months and months and months.

I've never even thought about turning private chat (and sometimes even public chat) on for years now. It's just the way the game's going, I suppose. At least I can take some comfort that it wasn't Jagex (well, probably indirectly, but not directly) that has killed this aspect of the game.

Where have you been?

Beggers have been around since as early as '04 (not so much in classic)

Nothing lately has spawned more, but you being a high level just makes you a target for beggars.

Get used to it, just make sure your ignore list isnt full :-w

He is talking about RS declining, which is equal to saying the American Economy is in the gutter. Neither is going down, what he is experiencing is already been happening for years.

...Oh vowels...What ever did you do to deserve this?

People will look for the easiest way to get free money, it's the same in real life too. Ah, sueing, you've mad too many people rich...

So what if people aren't willing to earn their way through society? It's them that falls through the cracks, and becomes a very simple forethought in the minds of 90% of the community. As well as your 80% of people being scammers, beggars or just plain lazy, I don't think that's a very fair representation of the entire community.

How long have you been around, honestly?...I can tell you probably now that the number's not nearly as high as 80%...more like 16-19% at a conservative estimate. But then again I don't pay attention to these kinds of things - not so much an interesting topic of choice as an everyday occurrence.

high alching in dharoks tomb along with those good tele other spells. rediculous. i simply say "you got tele other? i flame you" then get out b4 my pray drops lower.

Anyone who thinks there were no beggars in classic obviously didn't play it.

Begging has been a problem since day one of RuneScape. It was worse in 2001 than it has ever been since. I was begged everywhere I went. It was like f2p is now (because of course back then there was no members game).

It got better after members was introduced (on members servers anyway) and is no worse now than it was then. However, the plummeting age, maturity and intelligence of the community since those days is very noticeable.

see guys, stop having babies. we need to nip this problem in the bud.

Off-Topic:

Lol! Although this is an extreme solution, this may one day become the only possible solution to the decline of human intelligence. We may just need genetic engineering to make people smarter to slowly weed out stupidity.

On-Topic:

I think some of these whiny kids that beg for "free stuff" should be pushed out their front doors and into the nearest soup kitchen to volunteer their time and learn what's responsibility and rewards gained through hard work. Parents must also stop being so poultry manuare and give these kids a good ol' fashioned whoopin' on their posteriors! If not the whoopin', don't send their kid to their room, send them outside with some garden tools and make them do some garden work.

99 Ranged on 2/6/07 99 Hit Points on 9/5/08 99 Defense on 26/4/08 99 Attack on 14/2/09 99 Strength on 25/2/09 99 Slayer on 13/9/09\:D/

This makes me happy knowing how I was raised. I was raised to work for my rewards. My parents did not just give me money, I'd work for it. So now in runescape, I know when you work hard, you get rewarded, with money!

Yup it's getting very bad.......... #-o

I used to walk around everywhere in my best stuff and got a n00b train so i only started to wear santa with my skiller outfit and still got begged and alot of it.

Again, another "the community's going downhill" thread. It's not going downhill, it's just your perspective. You notice two incidents so to you suddenly it seems like things have drastically changed. But really there have always been scammers, beggers, etc. While it's true there are more now, that's only because there are more people playing. The percentage of players who do that stuff is probably always the same, but with a larger population, it seems like there's more of those kind of people. I could go on and on explaining this, but I've written on it before here if you want to read something longer.

I agree that ive seen more beggars lately but im never in one place to long so i rarely get pestered for them. They usually ask me for my guthans when they see me :shame:
