kelem_ryu
I know that this isn't the board likely to give me an answer, i'll state my case anyway, just for the sake of writing it down and to present it to readers. I recently turned 25 and i still have no clue, what i am going to do with my life. I just don't know what i want to do. Currently i spend/waste most of my time in front of the computer, basically doing nothing. Pro forma i am a student, but i don't think i'll finish university (i haven't even been to any lecture for about a year). I could though. I definitely have way above average intellect (english not being my native tongue doesn't reinforce that impression of course) and could become a lawyer or something if i wanted to, but i don't. I don't have a girlfriend, i don't have a job and i smoke two to three packs of cigarettes a day. So basically i'd have to consider myself a total loser. Sometimes i wonder if i just suffer from reality loss, should get any kind of degree that would lead to a corresponding profession, get a girlfriend/wife and become a citizen. That is what i never wanted to become though. Something about the culture we are living in feels wrong to me and i don't want to strengthen it by being a part of it, but what else can i do? I'm not particular brave and lack self confidence, so i can't just go away to a different place. Actually i often think i'd rather be dead, but neither do i feel suicide would be right, nor would i have the guts to execute it. Also i'm not really depressed, i just don't know what my place is. I enjoy the things i do, when i do them, it obviously just can't be all what life has to offer. The main problem is that i have no real income besides the stipendium i get for "studying". Rather sooner then later i'll have to have some and most "jobs" don't seem right to me. I can't work a job that works contrary to my believes, can i? It's just that almost all jobs do, because they work inside and reenforce a society i hate. Just look at the thread "13 year old got arrested for writing on the table" that's just the tip of the iceberg. I can see how everything is entwined to generate such [cabbage]. Sometimes i wonder if i just should get myself into a position, where i can unwined everything that i deem wrong from within, but a) i don't think i have the energy for that B) i don't care soo much about all this [cabbage] that happens. I don't even read the news or watch TV anymore. c) I don't want to work inside. I often just want to smash the structures, but i) i don't have the power to do that ii) do i really care? and iii) wouldn't smashing it do more harm then good? I just don't know what my place is. I don't know what i want. I'm tired and ain't too strong. What am i going to do? Basically i believe answers and opportunitys should come naturally, but either i missed them, or they didn't come. Well that's that. Thank you for reading.
rocketman089
I remember you posted a thread like this a while back, sorry to see you're still stuck. I still have no clue what i'm gunna do after college, but I figure that if it doesn't come to me by the time I get a degree in whateverey, i'll get a pilot's license and go into small commercial air. I think that'll be fun. Gamertag: King Arizona
Rebdragon
Can you explain what about the jobs and our culture you don't like? Figuring that out seems to be the biggest thing you need to do (or explain) before you can either a)find a way around it or b)get over it. And what are your strengths/what are your interests? [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series. The Real ET
Can you explain what about the jobs and our culture you don't like? Figuring that out seems to be the biggest thing you need to do (or explain) before you can either a)find a way around it or b)get over it. And what are your strengths/what are your interests? What he said. A lot of people have the potential, but just lack the willpower. You have to decide what you want to do and just push yourself. That's the only way anyone ever does anything. Not just in this society, but in all history. If people didn't push themselves to do something, nothing would get done. Cowards can't block Warriors. kickbuta
Doing what society expects of you, isnt always the right anwser, sometimes it is for some people, but not most. I know where you get these problems with society from, but just because you get a job, say as a telemarketer,a trucker, a teacher, or anything it really doesnt mean you have to "fuel the machine" or anything. But you will need a job to even co-exist with society, if not take apart in it, so just find a job that doesnt drive you insane, and maybe find out about some alternative lifestyles that there are out there (that doesnt mean anything sexual, although it does sound like it...). I dont think that makes sense, and it certaintly didnt help you. But one last thing, try volenteering for a good cause (something you aprove of) thats always a good thing. The Dark Lord
I know how you feel about not being certain whether life is for you or not. I also know how you feel about the American culture. I am a native-born citizen and I still get annoyed by the hickish culture in my area. Perhaps you can find you a job that you can enjoy, and it won't make you feel like you're about to be dissolved into the American culture. You may also be able to find a community of like-minded people that you can fit in with and perhaps they would share the same culture as you do. gonpost
You probably won't make up your mind until you are faced with the end of your funding for college. Personally, I'd forgo and not even consider marrying/having kids/making money/retiring/dying as a possibility (that is, the societal norm). Just do your own bachelor thing for a bit. As far as the degree goes, I really don't think you will make up your mind or do much of anything at all until you have a change of life philosophy, which doesn't change easily. I know you probably won't do this, but you need to look at the whole world (through the internet, perhaps). Then go outside and try to see things in a different way...like, look at the trees as you did when you were a kid, remember the feel of everything as it was when you were younger, and then imagine it with different feelings. That'll give you an idea of what you want...I hope. Anyway, go searching. And don't sweat about being a bachelor for a while. I've got the same plan in mind for a while yet. Oh, and quit the smoking. That way you won't be living one pack to the next, and instead can focus on other things. I'm serious. Runescape Name: "unbug07"Expand your mind. Randox
No offence but im glad your not afraid to admit you a currently a loser. The fact you smoke dosen't help (I have an incredibly deep intense cycological hatred for smokers, or more specificly, people who smoke where I can smell it, or if I smell it on there clothes). I would also say you suffer from some level of depresion based on the tired feeling, sometimes wishing you were dead, but not being suicidal. I might suggest a job in construction (roads to be specific). It's outside, you won't have to study, and most sociatys have roads of one form or another. Of course I don't know how you feel about physical labor but from what I got from the post this should meet more of your criteria than most jobs. Kill_Thomas9
First of all, your english is perfect. Probably better than mine. Second off, what is something that intrests you? Even though you dont agree with our society, doesn't mean you should do something that shatters. You might need to do something that goes against your beliefs, even if you dont want to. You just need to find something you enjoy. And our society wont be like this forever. It will eventually evolve. If it evolves for the better, people will be much happier; maybe you too. If it evolves for the worse, im sure you wont be the only one who feels that something needs to change. My point is that you should just go along with today's society, and see what happens. Even if you dont agree with it.
speedofsound
Become a author. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you." indy500fan
Happens to almost everyone at some point or another. You don't have to work in the "system" if you don't want to, but the system is responsible for almost all luxuries you have. Pretty much you would have to become a bum, unless you had some land out in the country which isn't connected to power/water ect...

Nom
Become a author. Honestly, that's really a good idea. If you have the patience and affinity, you should really try your hand at writing (ohh pun). As I type this, I have Microsoft Word open typing page 137 of a novel that I sincerely hope to get published. Writing is really a great way to express yourself, as I think you've already realized since you posted this topic, and make money on top of that. I fond writing suits my preference of a lifestyle very well, and I think you should at least try it.

fakeitormakeit
I'm only 14 so I hardly know anything about live, but if you have a problem with life and you have great oratory and leadership skills become a politicain and "change" history. For me this might sound like I want to be a totally power hungry crazy dictator, but I want to grow up to be a politicain who changes the world from its (what I like to call) sloughing position and spread the words of peace and union without force. Pkmastachaos
I recently turned 25 and i still have no clue, what i am going to do with my life. I just don't know what i want to do. Currently i spend/waste most of my time in front of the computer, basically doing nothing. There's your first problem. Depending what you are doing on the computer that is more then likely just waisting your life away. Try and do something different, forget about the computer for awhile. Life's filled with tons of things you can do. Computers play a relatively small role in the grand scheme of things. Pro forma i am a student, but i don't think i'll finish university (i haven't even been to any lecture for about a year). I could though. I definitely have way above average intellect (english not being my native tongue doesn't reinforce that impression of course) and could become a lawyer or something if i wanted to, but i don't. Try taking an online career test. Hell, we've all done it, if not thought about it at some point. It will give you idea's and help narrow down the choice of a future career. Maybe give you some inspiration to works towards that career as well. Finish university. You are very fortunate, people would love for the chance to be in university, let alone become a graduate. So don't give up there. Since you say you spend all your time 'wasting' it on the computer, why not take online courses? If your university has them, it will be a great way for you to catch up, while staying in a place you like. I don't have a girlfriend, i don't have a job and i smoke two to three packs of cigarettes a day. So basically i'd have to consider myself a total loser. Many people your age don't have a girlfriend. If your really want one, get out there more, make yourself available. If possible, give up and quit smoking. Not only will it make you healthier, more attractive to women - and a greater chance of making friends, but it will keep money in your wallet. Since you don't have a job, it would only make sense wouldn't it? It's a bad habit anyway. Actually i often think i'd rather be dead, but neither do i feel suicide would be right, nor would i have the guts to execute it. Also i'm not really depressed, i just don't know what my place is. I enjoy the things i do, when i do them, it obviously just can't be all what life has to offer. Take a more optimistic approach to things. You don't sound depressed to me, just lost. You say you enjoy the things your doing, is it possible that can branch off to a career? The main problem is that i have no real income besides the stipendium i get for "studying". Rather sooner then later i'll have to have some and most "jobs" don't seem right to me. I can't work a job that works contrary to my believes, can i? Just look at the thread "13 year old got arrested for writing on the table" that's just the tip of the iceberg. I can see how everything is entwined to generate such [cabbage]. All I'm going to say is find an outdoor job. There are many outdoor jobs I'm sure you can find something you like. That and, maybe try travelling. Seriously, now i'm just going to assume you live in the USA. But the whole world is not like that. I just don't know what my place is. I don't know what i want. I'm tired and ain't too strong. What am i going to do? Basically i believe answers and opportunitys should come naturally, but either i missed them, or they didn't come. Well that's that. Thank you for reading. You'll find a calling in life. Few if anyone know what their calling in life will be, you have to shape and promote that calling though. kelem_ryu
Thanks for all the responses. You are right. It seems i made a very similar post some months ago. I do think i feel better then back then. Ialso think back then i felt better then a year ago and so forth. I want to clarify that i'm not from the US. I live in Vienna, the capital of Austria. I can't join the army and if i could, i wouldn't. I wouldn't join the US army and i certainly wouldn't join the joke of an army Austria has. They wouldn't let me anyway. I'm psychological unfit (i had some issues with schizophrenia about two years ago). Can you explain what about the jobs and our culture you don't like? Figuring that out seems to be the biggest thing you need to do (or explain) before you can either a)find a way around it or b)get over it. That's a whole topic on it's own. I'll try to sum it up. People are obsessed with safety, obsessed with controlling everything and everyone. Everything gets categorized and labels are put on, so that people are just reading labels and judge by them. For every problem there is a short-term solution. Nobody cares how things will work out in the long run. Blessed be Democracy! We are drowned by media and advertisement, where everybody is always happy. The manipulation is so clever that although people know that they get manipulated, they still buy into it. I feel like living in some alteration of Brave new world or something. In our wierd world, it is deemed important to generate jobs. Are people bored if they don't have a job? If everything is running with x jobs then why would we need more? Everybody could just work less. In a household there are certain things to do like cooking, doing laundry and what not. If all these things are taken care of, you don't start creating more responsibilities. In society however nobody seems to keep record of things that are to be taken care of. I mean.. what is the government doing all the time? Oh right.. i forgot.. they have to make sure they'll get reelected. To hell with unpopular long term solutions and strategies! It's a zoo, or kindergarten maybe. I could go on on that for a while... And what are your strengths/what are your interests? I'm good at critical thinking and can concentrate really good and long. I can think outside the box. I think i can feel into people pretty well to. Also i'm quite agile. I'm very interested in spiritual subjects, culture and people. I'm a bit into music to, not really that skilled though.
