If someone said damn, or said sucks, i wouldn't mind, i would not be offended. What dos everyone else think of the offensive language rule, do you agree with all the words there? If you don't just say what word BUT DON'T ACTUALLY SAY THE WORD, eg. say "the f word" or "sugar honey ice tea". 38% of Tip.Iters put stupid made up statistics in their sigs. InkofDeath Posted October 23, 2007 Share Posted October 23, 2007 Just because you personally don't find it offensive, doesn't mean it isn't legibly offensive to others, but also, there are those idiotic people who will sue Jagex for money because they got offended, or were racially hurt by the language. All Jagex is trying to do is keep the game G Rated, and keep themselves protected from monsters who want to get rich quick by suing companies for invalid, and impractical reasons. The most of the words which are censured in RS are censored because they can be offensive for some people, not always including yourself. But some of those censored words is really unncesseary to censor. I know a lot of swedish words for example, which doesn't mean anything in english that could be offensive, which RS's censor make into stars. All I say is better safe than sorry. It doesn't do you any real harm by having them blocked out, and if that stops someone from being offended, then surely it's worth it being there. Like others say though... you eventually learn to deal with it. There are inventive ways around the censor if you really insist on swearing amoung familiar company. It only gets annoying when you're genuinely not trying to swear, but it blocks it anyway. i.e. abreviations following a comma and a whole host of words like "phone" and suchlike lol. That's the only complaint I have about the censor; it'd be nice if it had contextual filters (i.e. saying "dam that sux" would get blocked, but saying "I'm by the dam-like thing in Lumbridge" wouldn't), but I have no idea how easy or hard that would be to implement, if it were even possible. Otherwise, I don't really see the problem. There's no real need to swear in-game anyway; it's not like typing it out will give the same sense of release as just saying it out loud, and saying instead of typing won't get you banned (well, it won't get your account locked, anyway. I can't say for sure what the rl consequences of swearing out loud would be for anyone.) If it's really that much of a hindrance to your normal speech, may I suggest working on expanding your vocabulary to include more non-vulgar words? Part of the Star Traks network. (^^Clicky!) And considering this game was meant for 13 and older, most words blocked really shouldn't (go watch any pg-13 movie, and trying typing any remotely bad words.
