Star_Fox
this is totally irrelevant. i dont think jagex would set up a new trade update to end rs fansites. what are you trying to discuss?
PatrickPyro
Jagex isn't purposefully trying to get rid of Runescape fansites. They are improving the community aspect of the game and with that comes the death of certain types of fansites. MyMMOR - Gamers choice for MMORPG news, forums and blogs. Giordano
They are trying to be more user-friendly, using various aspects of fansites and other MMOs. Clan Chat is from the popular IRCs (or whatever they're called), the Grand Exchange is from WoW and other MMOs...they're just modernizing. gameboypen
Not that many people use tif for selling items. Thats the only part that makes RSOF better. And like others have said, free advertising.

DRUMINATOR17
Yeah ... I'm sorry, but this is just ridiculous. You're way off. And to think I will just quote you and leave out my FULL two cents about this post, after saying the following: "And to think, that it would be a person AThousandLiesto word that A Thousand Times nicer then myself or others might have." Seriously though, so I guess they are trying to do away with rares and discontinued items now because they released the god wars dungeon and all those new armor as and weapons... Ya..unfortunately that above bolded statement as senseless as it is makes more sense then how jagex is trying to rid us all of 3rd party fansites. :? Nabbagad
If Jagex wanted to get rid of fansites I'm sure their first step would be removing the article they have in their Knowledge base. It states that it is ok to make fansites as well as information and advice to help them make the site good. Wouter828
As stated above, they just don't like fansites with adds about selling runescape gold. And the clan chat feature and such are to make the game more userfriendly and so that people don't need to download 3rd party software. Click here for my blog. How about just having a little faith that jagex did the update to make our life easier and not part of some master plan? Thank you! Most trades by a long way that involve forums happen on the official ones. This is JaGex doing a nice update for non-members so they can reach thousands of people when selling items instead of maybe 1,000 or so in world 1. As many have said though, clan chat is hardly an effective substitute for IRC. The organised clans will still use IRC, which helps them give more effective command and strategy. No one used Tip.It marketplace. The RSOF is the main place for trades. So, if they're trying to deliver a blow to forum-based trading, it'll be their own forums that suffer most, TBH. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
Sy_Accursed
I think your badly mistaken. Clans have been asking for an in-game way to chat directly for AGES - plus clans use clan sites for forums not fan sites. So its rather irrelevant. As for the trading, how many people actually trade via fansite forums? Seriously, I've tried. Even here at tip.it your lucky to get a buyer/seller replying to you within a month, unless your price is uber low. Everyone trades on RSOF or in-game. The biggest point you could of made for this thread was knowledge base, whihc you totally missed out, but even that gives virtually no information next to a fansite. So in a word no. Jagex are simply catering to the big things thier players have asked for. mememe513
It's because of rule 12, no website advertising. If they let Tip.It slip past the rules, scammers could take advantage of this. (I don't know how, but they could)

Mark_560
I wouldn't say they were trying to get rid of fansites. Maybe "safer alternative" is a better option. Although I personally can trust Tip.It, there are some other fansites out there which seem quite unsafe.

Smapla
- Jagex has stated that Runescape.com is it's own biggest fan site - The knowledge base contains as much or more information than all skill guides published by other sites - The quest-help system was also designed to lessen the need for guides I'd say yes; they also see sites as a security risk, and possibly an unfair advantage. I never saw this anywhere and I read basically everything rs related out there - The knowledge base contains as much or more information than all skill guides published by other sites You are so wrong it makes me lol. When an update first comes out and no-one knows anything about it sure the knowledge base has more info. But Fansite guides have WAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY more in if you actually read them - The quest-help system was also designed to lessen the need for guides The quest help system was designed for players who get stuck on quests and want a hint rather than a guide that just gives them the answer. If Jagex wnated to lessen the need for quest guides on fansites they would of published quest guides, not hints Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills :: Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA RewardsDragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue
