BlueLancer
First, I'd like to finally say this: What's wrong with news topics if it's something significant? :? It's not like we're full of fresh topics on OT... World events can be discussed just like any other subject. Just because it's "news", doesn't automatically make it not worth discussing. Who would some depressed teen do this? I'm sick of crap like this happening. Do people realise what they are doing? I'm surprised the politicians don't see (or don't want to see) the correlation... Nearly every single person doing this stuff has been extremely depressed, and without exception, on heavy anti-depressant drugs. Something is seriously wrong with either psychological healthcare, or the side-effects of those drugs. Remember the video diaries of "SturmGeist89"? (Google that username if you don't) About how he complained his anti-depressants just make him more angry and violent? Guess what happened a few days later... hellbellz
Oh good. You deleted the post before I could reply to it. Why don't these kids get help instead of killing. Where's the reason in that? Almost forgot they're mind is in a state of unstablity. :s

xvillexvalox
Honestly, he wanted to do this and he did, I don't think there could of been any clear way to stop him. Though, I was kinda unemotional when reading that, and somewhere at the end I thought to myself, "Hey! I passed by Omaha during the summer!" Yeah seriously, this has been done so many times before, way to be original (as horrible as it is, don't mean to sound like a jerk). n64jive
I goto college in Omaha. I had a friend who was walking into Von Maur(the store it took place in) as it was happening. A bunch of people ran out the door and told her to run as they ran by. Honestly, the world we live in today is very depressing. Kids think "Oh, my life sucks, [bleep] it, i'm taking as many [bleep]ers down with me as I can". Honestly, I see this as a trend in runescape. Kids lives suck, so they get away from it by playing runescape. I don't understand how a person can't strive to be successful. The cool thing about living in the U.S. is if you try hard enough, even if you're born poor, you can grow up to be upper-middle class. Sad story that so many people had to die because this asshat thought he would be going out in style.

reaper88888
*Sighs* Why do we still let these depressed egomaniacal emo guys get anywhere near drugs and guns? Seriously, wtf? Too bad he didn't get Dubya... Actually, on second thought, isn't 'President Cheney' one of the signs of the apocalypse? There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves. justin_m23
This guy was an idiot. He kept [cabbage]ting on about relieving the burden on is family and friends, yet never thought about the burden of association they now have with some monster mass-murderer. He also talks about how good his friends were. If he had good friends then how the [bleep] could your life be [cabbage]ty enough to kill yourself? Attention-seeking Emo + Gun = Bad. rushrock
^ The only "emo" kids who commit these crimes have mental problems. Poor shoppers. This really is horrible, not much to do about it though.
Rebdragon
I wonder if there was anyone to stop him... from what I've read, he seemed like a decent shot. Here are the suicide notes. Anyway, I'm sick and tired of things like this happening, too. ktmcf121
apparently the police simply ignored tips that he was being threatening shortly before this happened, because it "wasn't in thier jurisdiction" in light of how common this type of thing is becoming, i think it should be a felony for police to ignore a threat of violence.... fgfuyfyuiuy0
The thing is, is that these kids could get help, but they don't want it. They feel that if they went for help, it'd screw up their lives anyways. People would look at them differently (People meaning close ones). They think they'd end up in a physco facility. Nothing can really help them. Now, for the rampaging. The people could commit suicide. Plain and simple. The thing is, they want to be remembered. Even if it was for the tiniest bit. It sort of, to them, feels like they accomplished something. That people will be talking about them or reference to them. Be like "Hey, did ya hear? Some kid sniped 23 people from the roof of his school!" This would be in a 'freaking out way', not a 'he accomplished something and made use of his life" way. These people want to 'make' something in their life. Now, I am not saying this is the thing to do. I am simply putting it in terms that these select few people see it as. Really. If you are going to commit suicide, don't bring people with you. I <3 Gears of War 2. Add me on Xbox Live and mention you are from Tif :D

Guess what happened a few days later...Just woke up and not every neuron is firing properly yet so I won't get a source, but according to an article I read in a Swedish newspaper some weeks back, while the amount of violent crimes committed by mentally unstable people have gone up (our Minister of Foreign Affairs was a killed a few years ago, and there's a fair few more examples of people with known mental problems who aren't getting the care they need), the amount of actual suicides have gone down considerably over the last 10-20 years. Something the writer of the article, some psychiatrist, attributed to anti-depressants. I wouldn't be all too surprised if that was true. edit: pressed submit without finishing -_- Is the desire to "go out with a bang" genetic and inherent in all human beings, or is it a cultural thing? I'm actually more inclined to say cultural, and that part of the background for these kind of tragics originates from the cultural values we assosciate with fame. -This message was deviously brought to you by:

Humans can and are naturally violent, in a sense. Maybe it's sort of a savage feeling you get when you feel the world hates you and your family, as well, so you decide to go out in a 'big bang' and bring people with you. I <3 Gears of War 2. warren211
People think the best way to gain attention is to kill. They think its simply a matter of "how many people can i kill before i run out of ammo or people go after me". they don't realize how many lives their ruining. The worst part is, they think they're tough because they have a gun and everyone else has shopping bags, but they're the lowest cowards of them all. In the end, they kill themselves to avoid charges. Now nobody can help him. No one knows why he did it, or how it could have been prevented. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. wildernessfreelancer
I don't see why this is any more significant than the fact that thousands of people die everyday of hunger/poverty. They died silently, and I suggest this news do the same thing. If I was a lawyer, I would see to personally that the poor get equal opportunities to live like everyone else. I want justice to this discrimination against the poor. =; [oh man... come on.. i didnt do that bad to your modesty... and i was drunk! you were not! you took advantage of me... wildernessfreelancer!]Yep, that's what they'll always say, LoL.
