December 28, 200718 yr The worst part of the censor is when you speak another language while in game. I used to play it with some MSN friends and we speak spanish to one another. It's pretty hard, you can't say, for example, the spanish word for "Black" (Negro) without having it turned into stars, nor any word ended on "-as" (the majority of the plurals) because it's impossible to understand what the other guy is trying to say. I agree with the "censor option" suggestion, as it has been said many times before. It would be a really good improvement if jagex used it. December 28, 200718 yr I think that the censor is a decent thing most of the time, but the day my nickname got cencored I just thought, "hmm, why is this guy following me around saying N**, N**? Wait they blocked that? geeze." I've still to this day got no idea why Nas (short for Nasgule) is offensive to anyone. I used to be able to show my distaste about something by going, Hmmph or something, but even that is blocked. If people get mad because someone is getting around a good part of the cencor all they need to do is report them and the person gets a black mark. Simple, easy and if the person values their account they'll get the message and stop. They DONT need to go cencor whatever part of what that person was saying or just go and change the cencor without telling us, at least if my name gets cencored they could tell us about nondiscript changes to the cencor *Sigh* METAL \m/
December 28, 200718 yr It seems that a lot of people believe that the only people who would seriously abuse the cencor being gone would be "little 10 year olds". If you think most 10 year olds act that way, that also reflects that you acted like a twisted perverted and swearing little kid at that age. If you weren't that kind of person, then you'd probably realize that there are many kids that age who aren't such idiots either. So unless you're willing to say "I was an immature brat who swore like crazy when I was 10", you shouldn't assume that all 10 year olds are like that. Besides, how many 10 year olds do you know are that perverted and know what all those swear words mean and use them regularly? Many of them might still not know where babies come from or even if they did know they wouldn't make jokes or abuse the process, theyre still learning. Maybe you know one or two kids who are crazy, but you have to admit very few"10 year olds" act that way. In fact, the innuendo and sex jokes and whatnot would be abused a lot more by teens than by under 13s. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. December 28, 200718 yr I would trade using the word 'hell' in runescape for the use of 'suck/s' any day. No questions asked. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."
December 28, 200718 yr If it's on the Simpsons it should be on RS. How many people know someone or are related to someone who is - let's say - 10 years of age and watches the Simpsons? I know someone who is 6 and loves it yet you hear words such as crap, [wagon] and damn quite often. Then words that are used in many different ways like suck obviously can be used wrongly but a large majority wouldn't. 99: Agility 28/12/14|Thieving 20/03/15
December 28, 200718 yr yeah but the majority of the censored words comes from the mouths of the younger ones. i dont think its about people say like aww this lolly sucks or that thing is crap its more when someone directs it at you. im not saying i get offended but i can see the potential. if you want to hear the most pottiest mouths of this world just visit a school playground discuss a combat reformation
December 29, 200718 yr Author I agree with the guy above me, just go to a school playgrund. Almost all the kids at my primary school knew the meaning of every word that's censored and they all used them. As someone mentioned on the lastpage, why not get rid of the censor all together? At first, yes there would be chaos. But people would be banned and people would eventually just not swear. And how are you offended by stars. You never know what word they said, they coul've easily said 'fing' instead of 'thing' because they're lazy. But the most ideal opton is to toggle the censor so you can/can't see them. I'm also in the process of sending a message to Jagex, I'll post with what's returned soon. 38% of Tip.Iters put stupid made up statistics in their sigs. December 29, 200718 yr Frankly I As for butt being censored? Good. When are you ever going to need that word in game for an intellegant sentance. Never? Bingo. I could be talking about how people don't recycle cigarette "butts" :XD: By finding so may ways to not offend people, they offend people with the censor. No witty signatures for me :(

December 29, 200718 yr It definitely needs a change my name gets censored into *a Chick2, sorry but I can't see what is wrong with as chick2 =/ Isn't it lovely how having an opinion makes you hated around here?
December 29, 200718 yr Censorship has gone over the top everywhere, people are afraid to voice their opinions, in case they offend someone. Although I disagree with censoring "less offensive" words such as [cabbage]e, crap, dork etc, etc. Jagex has got to censor these words, because if there was no censor, jagex would be sued by some parent who heard their little boy saying: "agh, this game sucks!" Even though the parent is the one who lets their kid see all this " horrible language" and probally doesn't give a bulls notion about their kid. Jagex is a company, and companies exsist to make money. Jagex does not want to loose money because of some pissed off mum, so they protect themselves with the censor.
December 29, 200718 yr There's one good solution for all this: Lose the goddamn "badness" of the words. Seriously, they;re words. Strings of letters forming comprehensive syllables. Only offensive because we amde them offensive, we should be able to take the offensiveness out. Well, you would think anyways...Wow that's an interesting idea. Imagine, back when half these words weren't offensive if we found ifferent words to be offensive, bad could be censored right now. Or, you know, we could've hmm...not made any words offensive! It's not civilization needs it to survive or anything. Well, too late to change that. Command the Murderous Chalices! December 29, 200718 yr Putting it frankly- The Runescape censor sucks. Now before this turns into a Rant, let me explain why it sucks. Runescape is intended for 13 year olds and above. Players and Jagex (and don't give me that they love the little kiddies for the money crap, they're breaking the rules) don't want children under the age of 13 who are not mature yet playing the game. The 13+ ruel is their for a reason. I'm not saying that all kids under 13 aren't mature, hey I started playing when i was under 13, but the majority aren't mature. But because of all these young kid, the Runescape censor has gotten way out of hand. Let's explore this scenario- You are walking down the street one day to go and buy some milk. As you walk, you pass a man and hear him mutter "Damn gum" as he steps in someones chewing gum. You disregard and continue on your way. You then pass by a lady walking to her car. She drops a coin down a drain and says quietly to herself "Aww that sucks". Once again you disregard it till you get it and get to the shop. You grab your milk and as you walk out you see a young boy spit out a lollie and say "Yuck, that's crap". Now, you are over the age of 13. Would you have been offended by any of the above situations? If you were, gtfo. Now I understand that there is need for certain words to be censored which are offensive, but seriously, this has gotten WAY out of hand. With all these updates to combat RWT, can't Jagex spend a little time tweaking the censor? I can't count how many times I've been censored ad maybe even reported, for mispelling a word or saying "Man you died? That ***". Anyone else feel like this? I agree, its too censored for those words while proper swear words should still be censored. This is a over 13 game and therefore some words like crap, suck etc should be uncensored. See that part in bold..... its called a opinion, while you dont find it offensive some might, you cant tell someone to quit the game because they find those words offensive.
December 29, 200718 yr I don't agree with this whole idea. It's true that the censor system is becoming too restrictive day by day, and I noticed that after the new game engine update in May - June 2006, where M N H got censored as * * H but anyway people would understand that isn't offensive so they won't get reported, plus it's clearly obvious that the word isn't offensive. However, Runescape has the right to censor some words because if they only censor the familiar offensive languages players will start to make up words and make it sound offensive. Plus i believe Runescape want a very clean and respectful community around. Also, as long as a person is playing a game and it's an online one it's pretty clear that he/she would act immature and wouldn't reflect his/her whole personality/image to the game. He/she wouldn't care because it's online and no one would see it, and that's what Runescape is afraid of. If Runescape didn't have a restrictive censor system the game would be with immature/disrespectful people's hands. I personally don't like to play a game that allows offensive words or mis-spelling offensive languages. Moreover, the system is very clever. If you get reported for saying a word that has been censored you won't get banned even though if it wasn't offensive. In contrast, you'd get banned/blackmarks for breaking rule 1 because you said mis-spelling offensive language even though if it was censored. Runescape aren't that stupid and they pretty know what they do and what facilities do they give for their players. *Started Runescape in 1st of August 2005*.
December 29, 200718 yr Totally agree. I have a friend whos name was allwasys sensored i have no clue why and we always had to refer to him in private chat as Guitar which is the first word of his rs name... Tip.It's Official Undercover Agent
December 29, 200718 yr I believe that the censor is definitely necessary and Jagex has done a great job adjusting the censor. HOWEVER I do agree with what you said. My suggestion is an option to have three different censor levels. One for basically what they have now, a second for just crossing out swear words, and one last option for just ignoring all censors. The only problem with this is that the younger gamers will undoubtedly turn off the curse filter and learn some rather obscene language which they would repeat in front of their parents who will end up arguing to Jagex. But I do agree that if only people aged 13+ were playing, the curse filter should definitely be removed.

January 1, 200818 yr i dont like the chat filter, thats no seceret. but when people are comming here saying filter on/off and all that, really is that going to help? maybe slightly, but for the majority if we could have no consequential punishment for the way we spoke then trust me, the things that are said privately and not on RS would probably horrify younger children. sounds dramatic? ever watch drawn together? thats what runescape would be come, just less funny
