Mkay, a good read, although for me graphics is very important, and I don´t think that without the graphical updates we would get more content. Since they have teams don´t they, content team and graphical team and sound and such ? Ofcourse the new look has to be tested many times to work properly but still. Can´t wait for the new graphics. <3:

I would love it if they would start updating some older things. :( And quest areas really are completely useless. :P Does anyone even remember Rubium anymore? I haven't thought of its existence until I read this, and realized how truly useless a lot of quest rewards are.

I think runescape was in for a major graphical update. It is a video game and well there supposed to look nice. I can stand a delay in game content updates. A game with all the content in the world isn't a good one if you draging nothing more than colored icons and symbols around.

Does it really matter whether I was right? #-o

That was one of the best reads in a while and I completely agree with you. I would love to see the old things get updated, so that they get a better use and such, graphics I don't really care much about.

it reads like a rant. it's a good topic but i dont think it applies to runescape.

it's easy to find things to gripe about, the loudest ranter is usually what is heard. not every update you will like, look at the slayer update (slayer rings, blocking assignments, slayer helm) and tell me about functionality.

gameplay has always been a top priority for jagex and runescape and it's improved vastly.

i say enjoy the current content and look forward to all the updates, graphics and game content.

i think the article is biased and puts forth minimal arguments; runescape gameplay has always been a high priority. look at the runecrafting skill. imagine runecrafting without the abyss or zmi or astral runes or even the ge. the game is improving contentwise so i dont see a sound basis for your arguments/rant.

and what is wrong with an OPTIONAL update to graphics? especially the full screen and new interface? the graphics people work with the content people but that doesnt mean there will be less functional updates to the game.

my theory is if it were up to some ranters we'd still be playing runescape classic with no updates.

I both agree and disagree.. Some of RuneScape's oldest features could use a makeover. Though I have to say that the graphics of RuneScape needs an update like this forthcoming one.

99 ranged | 99 magic | 99 defence | 99 hitpoints

Remember, it's just a game

I agree with most of it, there's just one thing that i'm unsure about. You say multiple times that you could just "go play call of duty or any other next generation games." That's exactly what Jagex is trying to get us to stop doing, they need to market somehow, and it's hard to express gameplay thoroughly in such a short time, whereas you can do that with graphics.

Good read nonetheless

Also, it's world of warcraft ;)

I really think das made a good point in the article. It's true that lots of things in the game, once proved to work correctly, are left alone and only work of one use. They are never updated to become more interesting or useful after the bugs are gone. I definitely think that Castle Wars and Fishing Trawlers could use a game play update, and I'm not even a member.

I think Jagex is trying to do this more now, with the addition of different types of Clan War (no ranged, no mage, etc.) after it was added to the game.

People care less about the graphics than they do about the game play. I would love an update to the characters, but I'd rather have a more interesting Barbarian Village.

I agree mostly. This new update will be nice, although they should do polls on whether people want monsters updated. Also a friend of mine who is prone to seizures, had to drop his gargoyle task.

Also fishing trawler was one of the first things I did when I got P2P and I was sorely disappointed.

Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again

I'd like to remind everyone that Castlewars will be getting changed for the graphical update. How much will be changed, who knows.

I don't get what the point of this article is?

Jagex updating the graphics is a necessity, yet your complaining or are afraid that they will go deeper into graphics and ignore actual content?

What kind of idiotic thinking is that? There's always been more people complaining about graphics then of the actual content in the game. Sure there's a good chunk of people going on about content, and updating the old things, but that's always there, just like the graphics being complained about.

Just because they picked graphics over content doesn't mean they are ignoring it. They are eventually going to go to content, I bet you that's their next big thing.

I don't know how you came to reason that Jagex would ignore content, and continue to improve the graphics? Jagex has always had people working on the graphics with viable content being released, even past mini-games or content is updated? Did you happen to forget about that?

Past game content does get updated, as it gets integrated with new game content?, that's updating.

Sorry if I'm sounding harsh and directing it to the author, but I disagree with how you word your point. It comes off as ignorant and arrogant towards what Jagex is doing, and has been doing. It's not fair to them.

Sure old game content could be updated, and that would have made an excellent article, there was no need to bash Jagex for improving the graphics, or even dragging that into the article.

I can't stand the people saying that they are spending too much time on the graphics. We've all wished that graphics would get updated. Now we're getting it. sure no results yet? But they are working on it, and have showed evidence. I can't believe how many people are being ungrateful of the graphics? Jagex not releasing content for two weeks is so bad that you have to say they are spending too much time on the graphics?

I'd rather them spend the entire summer working on the graphics just because it'll bring in new income, which will go towards updating the game itself, which means far better updates and technological advances in the game.

This article, and the few people posting about too much time on graphics is bullcrap. They've spent the past year working on these graphics, yet we've still had content? Why not complain about all those updates that did aid you, even though they were working on the graphics?

Two weeks isn't that long, I would have expected 2-3 months with no updates from other gaming companies, but we only get 2 weeks of no updates. Be thankful Jagex is actually dedicated to these graphics. Stop bashing them for taking too long.

It's just a different kind of update. they're adding all sorts of little things all the time. So why is one massive update that'll help them get more players bad? They're in business to help the new players, no so much the old players. After all, the guy who wrote the article is still playing.

Agreed with the article 100%. In fact, I said this the day they previewed this new graphical update -- only to get flamed by childish people who don't understand that gameplay is what makes RS great, not pretty pixels.

They devote far too many resources to graphics and not enough to updating content that's been stale for years.

Yea, because god forbid someone be excited about an update you don't agree with, that makes them childish. #-o

Well, to be fair, I think Jagex realized if RuneScape was to compete with the other MMORPG's out there, it had to shed its tag of "lousy graphics", which is the big reason quite a few people shun it for WoW.

Perhaps if they had overcome that bias in the first place and given RuneScape a shot, they'd probably realize the amount of content in this game and not really care about the graphics. But of course, with many human beings, its hard to take a chance on something unknown.

Which is probably the driving force behind this graphical update. To get new players attracted first, then let the content keep them here.

As for the lack of content update, I'm guessing it should increase not that they don't have to deal with graphics and RWT any more.

Good read, but I find the Tip.It times to be more and more ranting... Can't you talk about nice things too?

Only a little while ago, people complained the editor was a "jagex hugger". Not everyone can be pleased.

OT: Jagex should, indeed, spend more time on already existing content, but we don't see graphical updates all that often. Therefore, They better take that time from the new content instead of the graphics department. And let's be honest, RS would be way less popular if it still had RSC graphics.

I think you've made some valid points, but have tossed in some things that didn't need to be there.

I own the quest cape, so I know that a lot of the quest items and areas become quite useless after the quest is completed. Giving us the after quest hook, a reason to keep the items and revisit those areas would be nice, but I want to say one thing about that.

There is already TONS of content in this game. So much so that you can spend years and not do everything there is to do in this game. Constantly playing and raising skills only is at least 3 years of training to all 99s. Three years! You can tack on another year at least to play all the mini games and do all the quests, along with the numerous other content that isn't really related to anything, it's just there. So 4 years of content, plus new stuff being added constantly. Heck, they managed to give us not one, but 2 quests in the same month that they are doing the graphic update.

You need to stop looking at the new and start reconsidering the golden oldies that have been there forever. You mentioned the fishing trawler in your article. The fishing trawler is a fun mini-game, but very few know it even exists, because there's so much new that it gets buried right away in the heap of things to do.

So, to recap, I'll give you a 50-50 split in my agreement with this article. I do think they need to give us a reason to stick around after the quest and not totally ignore it, but there's only so much content you can cram into a game before there's no possible way you can do it all. There's more than enough to do while we wait for the graphic update, and if all the new is boring to you, grab your friends and head out to an unknown town or lost and forgotten mini-game and try it out.

The content is there, you just need to explore it.

7 years 'scape knowledge and counting
