Your Phobias

I think I have agoraphobia and cynophobia (or whatever "fear of dogs" would be-- can't be bothered checking).

My cynophobia can be problematic. If I see an unsupervised dog, I'll immediately walk the opposite direction (or at least try to avoid it when absolutely necessary) regardless of where I was supposed to be going. Another problem is that dogs (usually the larger ones) sometimes smell my fear and as a result they begin to follow/chase me. I've been chased by dogs on numerous occasions... it's actually kind of funny when I think about it, but to me the experience can be very frightening.

It's a common phobia usually formed in early childhood, if you asked almost anyone, they could at least remotely remember 1 person who was scared of dogs.

1 way of getting rid of it is mild 'shock therapy', as in you meet the fears, just like in any other form of phobia treatment (after you're mentally prepared). Starting with petting a peaceful dog that wouldn't hurt a fly, it will seriously change your thinking...

Though it's healthy to be afraid of aggressive dogs/certain breeds that have mostly been bred over centuries for the single purpose of fighting. Even a well trained staffordshire-terrier/bulldog could rip apart it's owner for no reason after years of living normally, and it does happen.

What BlueLancer said is true about them turning. One of my black labs, the female, was a relaly lazy dog and really laid-back. Loved to be pet...One day I went to pet her, and I guess I rubbed her the wrong way (literally) and she growled and snapped her teeth at me, something I never thought she would do.

I know a few people who are afraid of dogs...One was a friend of my mom's and almost refused to come in the house when he saw we had 2 dogs, but one is afraid of everything and the other is my female who just wants to sniff and see who is there (now we have a third black lab - a puppy, that came from my female and either the male black lab or another dog, we aren't sure who parented him). They all say they've had bad experience with being bitten, or watching someone be seriously hurt in the past...Hmm...I guess it is true lol, my mom also says she knew quite a few people who were afraid of dogs at a young age too.

Shock therapy can backfire though, you have to be careful what you do...I say go after a little dog, like a weiner dog. They're so fun, and usually relaxed and cool...Plus, if they bite you... football practice? (jk).

So you sucker punched a kid in the back of the head? Good job.
What scares me is that you're like 10 years old.

You were a couple years ago.
It's not racist if its true.
Hmm... I wonder how one goes about throwing someone out a window in a mystic fashion :-k

The mental image for that is freaking awesome.

Hmm.. I have to bulldogs that I'm not the most fond of and I constantly harass them :| Only been bit once but it was my own fault for trying to poke the dogs tongue before it could get me..

I'm not sure if it's a phobia or not but I hate dead cockroaches. Live ones are fine, but if it's dead I just start feeling really sick. I start retching at the sight of them, and even at the sound of one dropping to the ground.

I have a mild fear of spiders. Daddy long legs and the really small ones are fine, but when they get bigger than 3cm in diameter I hate going near them.

I also have a thing about other people's hair. If it's attached to them it's fine, but for some reason stray human hair is disgusting to me. I also won't eat anything if I find a hair in it besides my own.

Coulrophobia, Pediophobia, Pupaphobia, and Venustraphobia

Venustraphobia, really? I didn't think people really had that...just seems weird and unjustified.

Really? How? I find some 'normal' phobias weird, but my fear of beautiful women is just that I could never be with one, talk to one, or look at her if she talked to me. I couldn't approach one either. At work it's really hard for me to respond as I am a checker, so I usually nod my head and advert my eyes somewhere else. -.-

Fear of abandonment. Due to circumstances, I've learned as a kid that leaning on people makes them go away. They leave you, or they die. So, I've grown into an independent woman, who tries not to attach herself to people and I definitely try not to be codependent.

I have it pretty bad and boy, it messes up your relationships. Men want their women to need them, I push them away before they have the chance to leave me... It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Well, I'll put them from worst to least.

Snakes, quite definately the worst. Plus, try finding that out at School, [bleep]ing kids. Though if the snakes are behind a cage or such, I can take a look without being too bad, ones on T.V get to me a bit too.

Spiders, dunno why I'm scared, just always have been.

Heights, okay, I can stand some heights, and plus, well I would go on any indoor rollercoaster, no matter how high, as long as its extremely dark, I think this is more if I can see the ground.

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia - fear of long words. Makes me laugh every time :XD:

And Logophobia - fear of words, lmao

I have a friend who's TERRIFIED of toads, but not frogs :? not entirely sure she knows the difference but oh well. She's scared of porcupines too, rofl. Odd child.

I don't actually have any major phobias

Ohhh looking through that list of phobias... IMAGINE HAVING THIS!!

Methyphobia- Fear of alcohol.

I'd go insane

Bugs, ants and spiders. Not really when they're just crawling around without bothering me, but when they crawl over me or when I feel something tickle and it could be a bug... I go really crazy until they're gone. I also kinda hate being outside, so many of those little creatures there. :?

Fear of people. Not really that bad, but I try to avoid meeting new people. I never know what to say, resulting in very annoying silence.

Summer. I just don't like it. If it's cold, you can wear warm clothes. You can't wear cold clothes when it's very hot. Plus, there are a lot of bugs during summer.

I don't understand how people can be afraid of death. I don't think I would be sad if I would know I would die in three months. Nothing to worry about when you're dead. Other people dying is much worse, especially if you care about them. No, I wouldn't mind dying. As long as I don't get tortured to death or something. Jumping of a tall building would be my preferred method of dying; no chance on failing, quick and painless.

I'm terribly claustrophobic. Like one time, when it was winter, me and my brother and my friend were making a snow tunnel. Anyways I was the first one to go in and it apparently wasn't big enough for me so I got my body stuck in a tiny little freezing cold tunnel. So I started flipping out and yelling because of the claustrophobia and they had to destroy the tunnel to get me out.

I'm afraid of heights and afraid of looking at heights. Like, when I was in New York City going to see Monty Python's Spamalot, and I was freaking out whenever I looked at a skyscraper. They just scare me, especially Trump Tower, because it was leaning over, or atleast that's what it looked like. Especially going up in a skyscraper will scare the crap out of me. I'll have to stand in the middle of the scraper and I can't look up at all.

I'm also somewhat afraid of Hartford, CT.

I have Altophobia and Arachnophobia. for my fear of spiders its not that bad. Its the heights thats the problem. I just get really really nervous on top of a high building. when I'm on the Sears Tower in Chicago I just barely get my head to look down through the windows at the city of Chicago while my body is pulling backwards because I'm nervous I'm gonna fall off. Very awkward position.

I think phobias are meant for people who have very serious irrational fears. I mean, if you get a little dizzy on a roller coaster you probably don't have Altophobia. if spiders creep you out but you can still slam a book on top of one then you probably don't have arachnophobia. phobias are reserved for those with crippling fears. Like my brother who has a fear of the vacuum cleaner. When I'm vacuuming he quickly runs out of the room. Sometimes when the vacuum is in his way he'd try to slowly creep around it, sticking his hand in front of him in case the vacuum moves toward him. I love to taunt him taking advantage of this fear (i.e. asking him to pick up something near the vacuum that it can't pick up, rolling the vacuum towards his area). I guess you can call me an insensitive bastard.

[hide=]

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

I am like insanely afraid of needles... and I have type I diabetes. EXPLAIN THAT! It's so bad that I can't give myself a shot or change my infusion set for my insulin pump. I dunno what I'm going to do when I move out.

I'm kind of claustraphobic in that if I get stuck in a tiny space... well you get it. I freak out in very small areas.

Also I'm afraid of tornadoes as they are the biggest bad weather thing we get in Michigan.

Arachnophobia and Claustraphobia. The cruel irony is, my computer room, the room I spend a lot of time in, is loaded with spiders. Likely a more mild case, but whenever I see one on the wall, I shudder and raise my feet onto the chair.

You, sir, should not visit Iowa nor spend long periods of time with me. When I see those dark (almost black) clouds rolling in, those crazy gusts of wind picking up, and the rain/hail pouring down so hard it hurts.. I open up the doors and keep my eyes peeled for that amazing sight. I've managed to catch glimses of funnel clouds and a tornado beginning to drop but, unfortunately, never a tornado in destruction mode :(

I'm quite like you. I love tornados and storms. I've always wanted to see or be near one.

I live in Iowa as well, but we havn't had any tornados come near our farm in a good 5-6 years. The closest one recently was during the tornado outbreak, but that was about 15 miles away, and it roped out before we could even see it -.-

Nice, im on the pump as well, have been for 5 years. The only reason i got over this phobia is that it was that, or i would put my parents and family through a hard time with just checking my blood sugar, much less a infusion set... so i got over it when i was 7, like 4 months i became a diabitic.

Good luck, i hope you can get over this phobia.

I'm pretty claustrophobic, it's gotten to a point where I refuse to use a elevator, no matter how big the building is. Luckily for me in Ireland the average building is no more than 6 stories high and the exercise does add up ::'

Thanks, it's weirder still that I can check my blood sugar with no problem, but even if I'm just getting a vaccine (sp?) at the doctor I start to freak out... I've had diabetes almost 5 years, and been on the pump for 3 I think.

I'm scared of small furry animals that are at least taller than my army boots.Like cats and dogs.As a baby I had a dog bark at me constantly, and when I was like 10,a cat pounced my stomach.Plus I'm asthmatic!

On the "fear of dogs" thing, I have no idea why I'm afraid of them. Dogs used to be my favorite animal, but I don't know...I think my mom got bit by one...But I'm pretty sure I was afraid of them before that...And for some reason, dogs always tend to follow me. Maybe they smell my fear, like someone said. But really, once there was a huge black dog outside my school during dismissal...800+ people piled out of it at once, and the dog just happened to follow me...(I went my own way, no one else walked that way)

So yea, I stiffen whenever I see a dog. I try to avoid walking near them, but if I have to I'll be as far away as possible...Now that I think of it, it's one of my bigger fears... :wall:

As for "fear of glitter", like I said, it stems from the hate. I hate glitter, mainly because it's so hard to get off. So uh...I guess it's more of the fear of things sticking to me, but I'm not that "afraid" of glue.

And I'm somewhat surprised I'm not claustrophobic...
