rushrock
I noticed, Sumpta. I'll bet a bunch of other people did too. :P And I think you have an interesting hypothesis. It makes sense, too, on how the mind works as it goes through adolescence. A few oldies are still here, which is a good sign. I guess we're in this new, young phase, as you say, while there are tons of immature newcomers who have a bright, shiny forum (or it was that way) at their disposal and don't know what to do with it. I guess what the staff did was say, "We need all of you to realize that this kind of posting will not be tolerated. There is too much spam and flaming. The mature tag is there for a reason, in fact, it should be molded into your brains to be on every thread. Such a tag doesn't mean, 'hey, let's go in there and talk about sex because, let's face it, SEX!', it means that only mature, thought-out, intelligent posts and discussions will be tolerated." That's all it ever meant. A totally different definition was interpreted by the current bulk of OT. I think, that in the future, discussions like these will be able to happen again. Not without moderation, of course, but in time, "Project Offtopic" will stick with everyone, especially when it's put in this early. Things stick to people better when they're young, right? I believe that then the staff will be more lenient on OT and what's allowed in there. After all, it's a forum, right? We're here to have fun and talk with people. If the community cooperates, we can really improve this place.
Poopingman
Meh, I'm torn on this one. Part of me wants to be angry, as a sudden decision to enforce the rules out of the blue caught everyone off guard. On the other hand, I understand tip.it is a kids' forum; and that is sometimes forgotten because so many of us here are adults and to be quite frank, we rarely get people posting stupid or daft threads reminding us that there are plenty of kids about. Guess we'll just have to manage. Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....

Azvareth
In the 6 years I've been here, the "caught me" thread has been the worst thing to come out of OT. Not even all the feminist, abortion and Coke vs. Pepsi threads combined comes close to the amount of - to put it delicately - terrible and immature posts there. It was [bleep]ing abhorrent. So yeah, I'm liking this. @Mage_Man0103: As someone mentioned before, the mods have tried to make a thread like that work for years, but each time people have just started posting pics not suitable for this forum. I'm guessing it simply takes too much time to moderate it than it's worth. And it wasn't really a "funny pictures" thread as much as it was a "post your [cabbage]ty motivational poster and lolcat pic LOL".
Kiriyama
And besides what Nadril said. It was hard to moderate going through all the images and getting all the innappropiate ones. People have no self control when it comes to threads like that. In other words, they think they have freedom to post whatever they think is "funny". Faux
And it wasn't really a "funny pictures" thread as much as it was a "post your [cabbage] motivational poster and lolcat pic LOL". Yeah pretty much. I eventually stopped posting pictures because there's always a [developmentally delayed] posting 10 motivational posters. What makes me sadder is that people actually think they're hilarious. :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::
Nadril
The sad thing is is that now and then the actual picture behind the text or frame is actually funny. Then they just have to ruin it by saying HEY THIS IS THE JOKE THAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE LAUGHING AT and then repeat the damn thing in smaller text JUST MAKING SURE YOU GOT THE JOKE LOL. I guess some people enjoy having the joke explained to them though?
bloodyhatchetbear
I'm gonna be honest, it's about time some of those threads were removed. They didn't "offend" me, so to speak, but it was a little too... what word do I want? Mature? Immature? Anywho, yeah. They weren't quite age-appropriate. And yes, I know that there's the whole "it's 13+" thing, but younger people bypass that by lieing about their age (hell, my little brother does it to sign up for game sites, and he's only 8... a smart kid he is, he knows what year to use for 13+, and he's been doing it since he was 6). So by saying this is 13+ doesn't mean anything. Also, I'm not sure if it really was the RL pics thread that brought trollers here. So taking that away won't change anything at all, really. It just will force others to find other ways outside of TIF to see what each other looks like. Anywho, good job on the clean-up, and good luck with the future cleanings as well. If they lied about their age to be in a 13+ forum, they better get used to seeing stuff that is aimed at 13+. I can't see how the ever caught them thread could be inappropiate for a 13+. Actually, some of the stuff I saw in those threads that were taken away were innappropriate for the 13-15 range, in my opinion. But we still should go into conversations over the "ratings" stuff, considering it isn't our decision. It's the decision of the mods and admin to keep the forum clean. If you want to have the power to make said decisions, make your own forum. Why do people keep bringing up the age 13? The only reason that message comes up is because it is required by law. These forums are still designed to be family friendly for minors of all ages. We're not like some sites where an age check is there only as liability. The admins have made it clear it's a moral decision to keep the forums accessible to all ages. Mature topics can still be discussed, just not explicitly like the situation with the "ever caught them" thread. Some people it seems haven't been reading all replies, because this has been made clear over and over.

Whether or not they've lied is irrelevant to the topic's suitability for the rest of us. I'm 18 and I found some of the content in those threads deeply disturbing and inappropriate. The sort of immature chaps who posted on the "Caught them" thread in particular were starting to post in other threads and degrade all the topics the rest of us used instead. We can turn away from threads like "Caught them" - we shouldn't have to turn away from the board altogether. If you want to discuss stories like that, there's plenty of places to do it. Princess Viola
I think overall this will help off topic transcend from what Into a nutshell was a forum with conversation fit for a middle/high school lunch table or locker room to a forum where intelligent, thought provoking discussions can be had. I am a very lax person, but the contents of the "ever caught them thread" often crossed the line of acceptability for content many times and this course of direction is needed. Hey, I'm in middle school and I find that offensive, my conversations at lunch are very mature. Of course, it's been that way ever since they banned bringing iPods,DS Lites, PSPs, etc. to school... and I can't bring Yu-Gi-Oh! cards to school, because some [wagon] stole my mint condition. first edition, Japanese Slifer, worth US$200.... As such, I do believe it's a good thing to make more efforts to moderate the OT.
megakiller32
Why can't we have a "mature topic forum"? Because, yes, there are a load of trolls, morons, and idiots who take any excuse to burst out about boobies and penises, but there are alot of other intelligent mature people, who would actually like to discuss things with some trudging into the R region. I still think it's stupid that a mod can come in now of all times, and say "THATS NOT ALLOWED CAUSE WE SAY SO." Yes, sure the 'ever caught them?' topic was pathetic, but it kepts the pathetic idiots who love sexual-rated stuff in one small, containable hovel. The funny pictures thread, was fine in my opinion, if people don't like it, then there happens to be a load of other topics on the forums  Thats just my opinion, and i think its stupid whats happened, it didn't bother me, and i'm still wondering who these offtopic regulars were who are now "afraid to set foot into offtopic."
