Attention all Offtopic Users...Project Offtopic is Underway

Yes, sure the 'ever caught them?' topic was pathetic, but it kepts the pathetic idiots who love sexual-rated stuff in one small, containable hovel.

I don't think that's true. I think it just encourages more posts of that manner. People see others get away with it - so they do it too.

However, I partially agree with the Mature Forum. I do have a feeling that it will be the most ironic title ever though...

Thats just my opinion, and i think its stupid whats happened, it didn't bother me, and i'm still wondering who these offtopic regulars were who are now "afraid to set foot into offtopic."

I think afraid to set foot in OT isn't a very good explanation. As you may know I don't go outside of OT and it's subforums, ever. OT is my home, and usually I check around 75% of the topics and reply in about 25%. Just last week I was down to checking two topics and posting in neither. We aren't scared to come here, just once we get here we walk right back out the door.

It's great to see what used to be a fun and lively board being brought back to it's old state. Hopefully, with all the hard work moderators have put in and the patience the users have shown OT will bounce back and continue to thrive.

If you do consider a mature content forum, maybe you should put a post count restriction on it to make sure only our active posters can get in it. I know some people read more than they post, but this would atleast stop the little kiddies from getting into it too fast. Now it might encourage post spamming but hopefully we can avoid that....

Just a thought.

The problem with this is that post count is in now way directly related to maturity. It might be an indicator on someone's level of interest in the forum, and, to a lesser extent, maturity, but you can't make these kind of benchmark numbers and expect them to hold out every time, especially if they are on someone's posts.

Or, you know, only let in those that are known to be mature, non-spammy posters.

Yes, but that would take an even greater effort on the mods and admins part. That's the only reason why I suggested just a post count limit, it should be able to be set up to give access to anyone with a certain amount of posts. If you had the admins do it manually, how long do you think it would take to go through all 167,205 accounts? (though a lot are inactive, by a lot I mean like 160,000 atleast #-o )

Yeah they should definitely delete inactive/0 post accounts as long as they didn't join like yesterday and didn't have time to get that first post. Then, we could make a minimum of say 100 posts (not suggesting this # just using it as an example) to get in, AND decide which are mature enough

Would quote it but alas, 3 quote limit.

I think the post count should be a lot higher, maybe 300-400 posts maybe (This is just to be sure these are established members allowed in there, and active posters who can contribute to the threads). And mods can watch like you said and remove the privilages of anyone who abuses the forum.

Can I get any mod input on this? I just want to see if it is possible to implement it.

There are plenty of mature users on this forums that have maybe 50-100 posts.

Also I find it funny that, if such a board were to be implemented, so many of you would probably never get into it (that are talking about this).

Yeah, I know there are plenty of mature members with a low post count, I understand that not everyone wants to post, but it is just an idea on how a mature forum could work.

But, you see, relying on post count to give you a straight-forward answer is just a totally inaccurate and, frankly, stupid way of knowing if a user is mature or not.

To be a bit harsh, take Abyssalwhip, for example. He has 3k+ posts, I believe. Is he a mature guy that would be right for such a forum? Hah, I think not.

Thats good . I wouldn't call myself active in off topic, but I come here time to time, and I check out 80% of threads. I agree with having the 400+ post count, even though I don't fit that requirement. I'd be happy to not be able to post, and mature up, and find out what this board likes, what not, in the time of getting that count. I reckon, you should moderate it with a much tighter grip, but be lenient. Off topic, essentially is a pg13 forum, and you should let users be able to post things which would, say appear in a pg13 movie. Deal with users in a mature way, and you in return will get maturity and respect from the community.

I don't think that the staff would go through every account, they would probably get some obviously mature people to start it then have them nominate others, most likely through voting. A more fair and democratic way, I think. But I doubt it will ever happen.

To be honest, I don't think that forum idea will ever happen anyways. I'm sure deep down inside we're all satisfied with the current Off Topic.

I have to agree with you on it not happening. If OT was transformed to be an invitation-sort of thing, it would probably just turn into an elitist community. I don't think the mods would let that happen.

Cool.

Too true. People would probably debate as to what level of maturity would be required, which would probably end messily.

And it could turn into a way for people to talk about other users behind their back. Really, it'd end in tears, imo. :|

Well, if the people that were being talked about couldn't see it, then what would be the problem?

The problem would be it's not nice to talk about people behind their backs. It's really rude.

Plus someone on the inside could tell that person, and it would get really really messy.
