Just because only two wars were named 'World War', does not mean that there haven't been wars with a good deal of the world, as it was known then, involved. The Spanish wars of the 18th century and the Napoleonic Wars can be considered world wars as well. Globalism is a recent trend after all, just as weapons of mass destruction are.

 

 

 

They named the Great War World War I because it shifted peoples' perceptions. New weapons were introduced, war took a different shape, became impersonal, more gruesome than even before... It gave rise to a different era.

What I think is that there will be a Dictator far worst than Hitler or Kim Sung(Or Jung, Im not sure) that would gain total control over a country, torture them and then take over country by country. Soon we will all die via suffering.

A single dictator would probably not be able to rule the world, and either way, dictators can only live so long, and there is no way all humans will die in like 70 years.

 

An epidemic will do nothing, as it has an epicenter, and is focused on what spot, a pandemic has no epicenter, and is everywhere. We had a pandemic and a world war at the same time, around the end of WWI. Soldiers coming home, spread the spanish influenza around the whole world, killing up to a hundred million, but in the end, isolation would save the human race. Cities would be devastated, the country would not. An asteroid, we would know a fair amount of time in advance, and be able to destroy it, or take measures that enough people survive.

 

 

 

Oil, are you serious. We are not talking about the end of the world as we know it, we are talking about the end of the human race altogether. If you really think that america would nuke places to get oil, you are clueless. For a start, it would make the oil nearly impossible to get. Currently, from the world's oil reserves we are only losing a few hundred barrels a day, at the rate of production. The issue is how much is left in the ground.

 

I did the math, and at our current rate of using up oil, and including how much oil is in the ground still, we will have over 100 years before we run out of oil.

Do you honestly think that in the next hundred years that there will not be at least some sort of alternative? Sure it would be expensive, but who knows, maybe cars will have solar panels on their roofs to give them extra power during the days, and then run on an alternative energy source.

 

 

 

We currently have the technology to make cars carbon neutral, but it extremely un-cost-effective.

 

 

 

The thing with WWIII is that nuclear weapons are blocked by something called mutually assured destruction. In the modern world, if you lose a war, your whole country isn't destroyed, and everyone in it killed, it is merely the government who loses, and possibly changes, or the borders of the country change or something.

 

But, if you a country launched even a single nuclear missile, everyone in their country would die, since nukes would be launched in return. If you honestly think that a world war will start over oil, then you are most certainly wrong.

 

 

 

I am not saying I support the war in Iraq, but Saddam did need to be removed. He had killed hundreds of thousands of iraqis in the past, and was a dictator. The way we did it was not good, however, and caused about as many deaths as he caused.

 

 

 

America would probably come out mostly ok in a world war, if they were anything like the first, mainly because of our location. The previous world wars were fought mainly in europe, and china. (China attacked by the Japanese)

 

In order to move a sizable army from Europe to america would be nearly impossible, as we have both the strongest navy, and air force in the world.

 

 

 

The only type of nuclear missles I could see being used in a nuclear war are tactical nukes, and those aren't nearly a bad as the big ones.

Just to be clear, I was agreeing with you. The earth may be just a hunk of rock floating in space, but it's dumb to ignore the fact that we're not the only ones here and that we have made the environment worse for the animals. (Pollution, animal abuse, etc. etc.)

But who is to say that what we do isn't natural. If we turn the world into a nuclear waste, then some of the current species of animals (mostly microscopic) will remain fine, and eventually evolve. Remember that thread about the living goo in the reactor of chernobyl or something? I'm sure that will thrive. And again, a nuclear war will not end the entire human race. If even like 10000 people survive, it would be enough to get humanity restarted.

 

I remember about a year ago, my mom was listening to the tv, and heard "blah blah blah, the pink flamingo is going extinct" She came over to the room I was in, and told, me. I asked why, and she said "uh, environment lost due to humans probably" Then I turned the tv back on, and it turns out they were talking about plastic flamingos.

 

I know one person isn't a great example, but we assume that we are the cause of everything bad on earth basically.

 

I am not saying we haven't caused many things, but they year after hurricane Katrina, they said the hurricanes would get much worse, due to a slight rise in temperatures. Guess what? They were very mild comparatively the next year.

 

 

 

Humans need to look at what we are doing, and stop some of the bad things, or atleast decrease them,but we seem to assume that we are the cause of all bad things in the world. And global warming? It's happened before.

 

 

 

Around the time of the dinosaurs, there was a lot of gases put into the atmosphere by massive amounts of volcanic eruptions. The temperature rose a lot, and some things thrived, some things didn't.

 

 

 

If our global warming was caused by volcanoes, would we freak out nearly as much? no. We can prevent global warming, if we are the full cause and there are no other factors to a point, but it is not at all like the world will end because of it.

But really, chances are we're not responsible for half the stuff we think we are. Ok, maybe not half, but there's certainly stuff out there. So we might not be our own end if it's global warming (which I don't see why that would end humanity in the first place). As for people in fallout shelters after nuclear war: Yes, they'll be alive, but will they be able to reproduce with others? Chances are the next shelter will be a good distance away, and especially over irradiated soil that's a journey. There might be over 100,000, but that's useless unless they can reach each other.
