I just want to say that math isn't useless at all. If you can't apply it directly in real life, it will at least help your brain think logically. I've personally noticed that thanks to trigonometry, I find it easier to find alternative methods to reach solutions. Besides, math can be fun if you're in a good mood :D

 

Don't get me wrong, math is a great thing and definitely has its uses, just not useful to me in particular, which is why I hate that I'm missing half my summer because of it.

 

Adrenal, you're right, but I'm not content to just take things as they come. Even if I could pass Regents Algebra (which I really, really can't) and managed to graduate HS, the logical next step would be to go to college and get a job, which, to me, is boring.

It's Midnight on a Sunday, and as usual, I'm pissed off about the coming week of school. We go there and spend 7 hours a day, not learning, but memorizing an endless river of useless information. What's more, this useless information also has the potential to absorb half of your summer vacation if you refuse to go along with it. In my case, it's Algebra. Besides math, the other classes, though much easier, are, for the most part, just as useless. At the same time you're putting up with ignorant jackasses with no personality and who know nothing about the world around them outside of this town, and who repeatedly make stupid decisions, all while blaming anyone but themselves and spewing uneccessary swear words and your mom jokes. The proper way of dealing with these people if to feed them to a woodchipper.

 

Basically, every school ever.

 

Huh. My school was nothing like that at all. It wasn't the greatest by a long shot and of course there were annoying people, but to say they are ignorant and have no personality is rather shallow. So what if they do those things? I'm pretty sure we all did them (you included), so there's no need to act all high-and-mighty-I'm-so-much-smarter-and-better-than-everyone-else, buddy. Don't try to tell me that's not what you're saying, because it is. By complaining about them, you are just as annoying and immature - this isn't the first time I've seen a post like this from you either.

No kidding, man. I've not run into these huge masses of imbeciles that you claim exist in every public school e-va-rr. And I don't know about you, but the education I'm getting (at least, a good 70-80% of it) is stuff that'll help me in the path I've thus far chosen for myself (everything but [bleep]ing English, man. And Government, but that might help some folks). All sorts of technical physics work, mathematics to complete said physics, military and leadership skills, foreign language. I'm all set to be an engineer and eventually drive a goddamned nuclear submarine. Yessir.

 

You might think algebra is pointless, but it's an integral part of every other higher math. Even if you end up as an accountant or something you might need it, but especially if you head into engineering fields, it'll be so prevalent you won't even think about it. Get out of that "school sucks, it's pointless" mindset, and you'll realize what you really are getting.

 

Except english, man. Don't even know why I need it, just let me read without making me analyze why the hero treads on a specific grassy field.

We had a fire drill and ten minutes later 'another' one... There was actually a gas leak in the physics wing, and people heard it/were feeling ill apparently. We spent like 40 minutes outside, and the fire trucks came. :P

C. If you knew these people, I can with absolute honesty say that you would agree that they have no personalities. Well, thats not entirely accurate. The personalities are there, just as generic as they come. You know what I mean. The person that says "We should just nuke the Middle East rawr! USA Numba 1", the person that acts like a douche for no reason. I don't mean stupid in the sense that they don't score well on tests and things like that. I mean it in the sense that they don't understand the world around them. I mean that in the sense that they will believe whatever they are taught, never thinking to question it. As in, the few people in my school that have admitted to being gay have had the [cabbage] beat out of them.

 

You may be right though that not every school is like this. The last (and only other) town I lived in had mostly ok people. Mayber I'm just unlucky to be here?

All they do is follow their instincts day after day, letting their hormones have more control over their bodies than their brain (not really but you know what I mean). Of course there are also smart people that get into the school rut and just seem depressingly boring and conform to everything are there, but they aren't that prevalent.

 

It's much more fun to get good grades and question/correct things your teacher says. It's fun to either become friends or enemies with a teacher on purpose.

In order to do well in school you don't need to be a mindless drone. If anything, I see most of the mindless drones as the people who are more concerned with getting attention from cute boys/girls. All they do is follow their instincts day after day, letting their hormones have more control over their bodies than their brain (not really but you know what I mean). Of course there are also smart people that get into the school rut and just seem depressingly boring and conform to everything are there, but they aren't that prevalent.

I have no problems with learning, I just think that grades shouldn't be the important thing. It should be who is actually learning as opposed to who's willing to jump through hoops. I've seen many brilliant people get shafted because they're not willing to put up with the [cabbage], while kids who really have no life skills or intelligence at all are on top because they're willing to put in 4 hours a night doing mindless repetitious tasks.

 

This is just me ranting about how much I hate the way the world works though, so don't pay to much attention to it. Some day I'll suck it up and join the bleak march towards death, but I want to fight it while I still can

Oh okay. I misunderstood you then. I completely agree with you now, I also see many intelligent people that just get terrible grades because they realize how stupid the school system can be. It takes a lot of effort to actually get a lot out of public school, in most cases more effort than we really should provide.
