August 14, 200817 yr a war to end all wars and a war without any winners. People were saying exactly the same about World War I after it ended, but it still didn't take long to start WWII  Back in WW1 and WW2 the weapons were so much weaker. Both sides got got enough nuclear weapons to destroy this planet multiple side and if it went into a fullscale war, there soon would be no man to witness the next war. August 14, 200817 yr an F-22 costs around 90 million dollars for example. Your budget this year was over 583 billion usd. Btw the unit cost for F-22 Raptor is 137,5 million usd according to Wikipedia. Good thing it's not my tax money that's used on that budget or those planes, would rather see my money floading into education and health care :P Middle Class people still live comfortably, even after all the taxes. Not to mention good education and pretty good health care. It's also cool, we can build stuff like the F-22 Raptor. I am Teh_King[My dA][My Last.FM][My Twitter]
August 14, 200817 yr Not to mention good education At mathematics and literature you're far away from "good" or even "ok" with the western standards. http://nces.ed.gov/pubsearch/pubsinfo.asp?pubid=2008016 pretty good health care. Again depending on what's pretty good. If you ask me, the US healthcare does work but only if you're ready to pay for it. If you can't afford it, you're in problems. There are multiple articles on the subject, but here's one link for exmaple. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/200 ... care_N.htm I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm
August 14, 200817 yr Sorry Latinoking but you're very misguided at least on the part about good education... American public education is less than mediocre at best, U.S. schools do horrible in international comparisons of mathematics, reading comprehension... And the quality of teaching is in most cases horrible. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12705167/ ...This is where people miss the boat. They dont realize how important the textbooks are, Wang said. We talk about vouchers and more teachers, but education is about the books. Thats where the content is. American textbooks are both grotesquely bloated (so much so that some state legislatures are considering mandating lighter books to save students from back injuries) and light as a feather intellectually, flitting briefly over too many topics without examining any of them in detail. Worse, too many of them are pedagogically dishonest, so thoroughly massaged to mollify competing political and identity-group interests as to paint a startlingly misleading picture of America and its history. They are sanitized to avoid offending anyone who might complain at textbook adoption hearings in big states, they are poorly written, they are burdened with irrelevant and unedifying content, and they reach for the lowest common denominator" I guess you can't really blame the public for not knowing common countries on the map or arrogantly thinking they're the best and most admired country in the world if that's how their education has been; Low on content.
August 14, 200817 yr This won't end up World War III, nummies. There would be far too much at stake. Not to mention, for it to be a world war, wouldn't some of those countries - likely the UK, possibly Finland could get dragged in - have to be in? I think it'll be a bit like the beginning of Somalia. Whether it ends up like that I can't say, but that would be a bit of a worse-case scenario. Blue, I'm in public education. Here in the South it's fantastic. You have to realize that it differs state to state, and even county by county. I get free textbooks that are fairly new, great selection at libraries, access to a grand computer lab, all sorts of things. From an outside view it looks worse, and news will always look for the worst cases they can find. The worst part of our education is standardized testing - it's getting so bad in middle and elementary school the whole curriculum circles these tests. At least in high school they don't give a flying [bleep] about it. Although I do agree that the textbooks could stand to be better, at least we have them free and for every student. Also, I'm really getting tired of everyone speaking of how arrogant and stupid American citizens are. If you've never visited this nation, and traveled to every state, you have no room to speak, just as I can't speak of how conceited I believe the British to be (purely from run-ins on video games), as I have never even been there. Also, as to not being able to point out some countries on a map, if citizens in England cannot point out Missouri, Michigan, Wyoming, and Alabama, then citizens in America would not need to point out, say, Latvia. [arrogance]You're just mad because we're better than you :twss:[/arrogance] Phew, sorry, got off on a bit of a rant. A little bit of anger there, so I apologize if I offend anyone. Continuing with the topic, yeah, it's starting to turn into a bit of a Somalia, only more north and nothing's dissolved into faction-led anarchy. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

(I'm not cheating using google :P )
August 14, 200817 yr Also, I'm really getting tired of everyone speaking of how arrogant and stupid American citizens are. [arrogance]You're just mad because we're better than you :twss:[/arrogance] So in the other words we would need to spend our time in different places to see what they really are? With your logic we can't criticize different nations that lived in the past, that are currently here or will come in future. Yea who cares about old dictators, north koreans or even these georgians, we've never been there so who are we to judge them? With this kind of logic you will stay at the level you currently are or even drop behind the others. I find it funny how you can compare US states or cities to European countries, even countries that play a huge part in your current politics, culture, history and even language. No one expects you to point out Horsham from the map but knowing where's England, Egypt or even China is part of being even some what civilized. I also find it funny how you bare handedly lynched an international study that has been done multiple times from OECD (your nation was one of the founders btw) and shows pretty clearly the state where the education is. Obviously your education system is not working as well as it could if pretty much every other western nation could get a lot better scores than you on subjects that aren't too much related to the culture. What's your opinion on this? That your current system is ok and the others are better for random reasons? Btw why did you react like stating a fact proven by also americans was some way antiamerican? If an international study shows clearly that you aren't doing well at all in something, should it just be put away? I think it'll be a bit like the beginning of Somalia. Whether it ends up like that I can't say, but that would be a bit of a worse-case scenario. In Somalia the problems are between different clans and tribes. It's a local conflict with virtually no pressure from other strong sides. Currently Georgia is under the fire of one of the strongest militaries and biggest rising economies in the whole world while getting aid from the biggest (and decreasing) economy with one of the best militaries. First of all, the state of Somalia (pretty much a civil war) would be not even close to the worst-case scenario. First of all if it turned into a civil war between Georgia and Abkhasia&South Ossetia, the odds would be so highly one side that it would end a lot faster than the conflict in Somalia. Also if it was only a civil war without any pressure from EU, Russia, China or USA, it would barely affect to us at all. We could see a minor jump in the price of gas but that's all. However currently we're here talking about different policies, USA has risen its alert level and NATO and other operational talkins are a common topic in the boardercountries. Even the current state is worse than the state of Somalia if we look it from the view of other countries: Somalia's conflict won't cause any real danger to you, me or any other average westerner. This war might cause things that no one dared to say aloud and already has caused us more problems than the case in Somalia. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm
August 14, 200817 yr Hohto, I've always noticed that Finland continues to dominate on these tests, time and time again. Could you explain your educational system?
August 14, 200817 yr Augh, that's exactly why I was iffy about posting that - and it wasn't even directed at you, hohto. I just wanted to get it off my chest. You've surely seen the same thing when someone goes against the British (who are in quite good numbers on the list of debatists). I don't want to reply turning this into another America versus everyone else debate. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
August 14, 200817 yr WWIII, i can see it coming. +1 I unfortunately don't have anything else to say. 2012 apocalypse :( 99 Hunter - November 1st, 200899 Cooking -July 22nd, 200999 Firemaking - July 29th, 201099 Fletching - December 30th, 2010
August 14, 200817 yr Oh my god, I love that Jessica B, she made me laugh for over 30 minutes. (Not sure if it goes here, I hardly come to this side of the forum. ) ooh eeh ooh ahah, ting tang wallawallabingbang m8
August 14, 200817 yr Well it certainly made me giggle. : catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
August 14, 200817 yr Hohto, I've always noticed that Finland continues to dominate on these tests, time and time again. Could you explain your educational system? Efficient teaching methods and teachers for the most part... They also invest a lot of money in pedagogic studies about children's learning behaviors, studying patterns, etc., then apply those strategies & principles countrywide to school curriculums. Sadly in some other countries, the only pattern is "give them a textbook, make them read it", leading into disasterous study results especially in poorer nations.. That kind of 'learning' isn't even education. If the book/teacher doesn't stimulate the student intellectually, increase his/her critical thinking abilities, it's not education. Then you're just memorizing a bunch of text and letters & missing the deeper point behind them. These countries, like Togo, Tadjikistan, Moldova, will never get an improved economy & corruption free government if they keep raising children in an environment which practically dumbens them down to a lower intellectual level compared to western countries.
August 14, 200817 yr I always wondered.. Who are the idiots on Yahoo answers always voting down the witty replies (or even correct ones)? Or do they really not know there is a country called Georgia somewhere? That place (yahoo answer boards) seems like a joke anyways. Almost like 4chan, just with genuine morons instead of trolls/twisted people. Really, look through some Yahoo answers and replies. You can't help but feel mutual shame with other readers. Your first thought will probably be, "bunch of trolls". The truth will become more and more apparent later on when you realize the questions are serious.
August 14, 200817 yr Actually many of the people that post stupid questions on yahoo answers are intentionally trying to act stupid to get funny responses. Still, some people are actually serious, which really scares me.
August 14, 200817 yr I lol'd, hard, does that make me a bad person? :( - I've posted serious questions on Yahoo Answers (before I discovered the encyclopedia in my library) and gotten answers that are just plain wrong, honestly. tumblr / central / dA / photo FB
August 14, 200817 yr Actually many of the people that post stupid questions on yahoo answers are intentionally trying to act stupid to get funny responses. Still, some people are actually serious, which really scares me. This person is serious, that's what makes it so funny. If it was 'LOL I LIVE IN GEORGIA TANKS GO BOOMBOOM HERE' then I would just laugh once but she's freaking serious  ooh eeh ooh ahah, ting tang wallawallabingbang m8
August 14, 200817 yr I should put a picture of a facepalm here. Not for the stupid question, for everyone believing that it wasn't some kid putting it up to be funny.
August 14, 200817 yr I should put a picture of a facepalm here. Not for the stupid question, for everyone believing that it wasn't some kid putting it up to be funny. If you browse Yahoo answers for more than 2 minutes I think you'll find it disturbingly impossible all those people are really just "trying to be funny". http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/in ... 918AAWUFs0 ....... This guy seems to agree too.
August 14, 200817 yr a war to end all wars and a war without any winners. Both sides got got enough nuclear weapons to destroy this planet multiple side and if it went into a fullscale war, there soon would be no man to witness the next war. Yup, as Albert Einstein said "I do not know what World War 3 will be fought with, but I do know World War 4 will be fought with Sticks and Stones". If this does escalate into World War 3 Obviously Nukes will eventually be used, and there is no such thing as cleverly using a Nuke, you can't just use a Nuke to take out a army base, because you'll take out 20 surrounding miles of people with it. When World War 3 does happen, we're all screwed, nothing else, just screwed completely. There will be no "winner" in WW3, because whoever does "win" the war will have nothing left, no resources, no economy, nothing, they might've won the war, but war gave them nothing good by winning it.
August 14, 200817 yr Do we really need 5 threads on the Georgia-Russia conflict...? As for the pic, I love how she misspelled both her home state of Georgia and the word Russia. I wonder how many people in the Georgia state actually panicked when they heard on CNN "Russian's invade Georgia". And why the hell did 14 people vote down the guy's comment? Sounded ok to me, unless Yahoo answers doesn't appreciate witty remarks, and this wasn't even witty at all... [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. I own. http://linkagg.com/ Not my site, but a simple, budding site that links often unheard-of websites that are amazing for usefulness and fun.
