However, if a guy hits a girl, he is more likely to hit her breasts, in which case she could call out sexual harassment, and the guy is screwed.

Meh, I'd aim for the solarplex or the face depending on how bad she's asking for it. Seriously, I have no problems hittings a girl if they're asking for it. If a girl wants to beat on me, she's going to get it right back and chances are I know more about inflicting pain than she does. I do know a girl that could kick my [wagon] pretty easily, but we only fight in the ring ;)

 

 

 

I'd also like to mention this to all the girls out there: If you start a fight with a guy, don't expect a shot to the genitals to finish it up and make you the winner. I've taken some serious shots to that region and I know after I get hit I have about 15 seconds before I actually feel the pain. And I'm not going to lose to a girl taking cheap shots, and neither are most guys who can take a hit.

I do not go around hitting people. In self-defence, man or woman attacking me, of course i will defend myself. I do not care for gender in such a situation.

Males are more physically dominant than females. Females are submissive and weaker than men. If a woman hits a man, the man usually 'turns the other cheek' (so to speak). If a man hits a woman, that's got to hurt. O_o Men can build muscle four times faster than women, and men are usually stronger.

Males tend to be stronger than the average female. If a woman began hitting me I'd tell her to stop and if she didn't I'd softly push her onto the ground so she doesn't get hurt but I put my point across.

I personally have been hit by girls in my time, and many of those encounters they were in an advantageous position. In fact, they always are. We'll be called cowards if we don't hit them, and probably face worse if we do. But, hey, equal rights with women is often a one-way street. Doesn't bother me. The advantages of women far outnumber the pet peeves.

Another possibility. Back in the 1800s and early to mid 1900s there wasn't as much equality, and woman were generally considered less useful, or weaker (Modern day example: China. Many girls are sent to orphanages for being girls, because of the 1 child laws) and it probably just wasn't accepted to hit something considered inferior, especially with the start of womans rights movements, and it's not like people are suddenly going to say "HEY GUYS! GIRLS CAN VOTE NOW, WE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO HIT THEM!!" And it probably just never changed.

 

 

 

On the flip side, in medieval times, beating your wife was pretty much accepted.

I think there's a lot more to it than you may think. Here's 2 points:

 

 

 

1. When I was growing up I remember seeing how the boys were always playing rough. I'm not saying I'm an angel as my sister and I lived in the country and we climbed trees etc, but we were not exactly involved with the fighting games the boys played, more to the point, it didn't interest us.

 

 

 

2. Boys also are full of testosterone, two effects of that is muscle mass and aggression, so on average a man is a LOT more powerful and agressive than a woman.

 

 

 

Looking at the above 2 points you may see a picture forming, men are stronger than women and generally are better at hitting. There are always exceptions to the rule, there are women who are big and you wouldn't mess with (One of my best friend is like that). Also there are men who are complete wimps, but we're talking on average here.

 

 

 

Here's something that once happened to me: I was in a pub with my friends and this scrawny little twit kept pestering me to have a dance with him. In the end I got really annoyed and told him to F**K OFF! Next thing I knew I was waking up in hospital, my face a mess and my mum crying by the side of the bed. I was taller than him but he still put me in hospital, and that's the point, men should never hit us, you guys grew up doing that kind of stuff and you have the physical strength to back it up.

 

 

 

After that little incident I did Karate (Shotokan) for a few years but gave that up after grading my 3rd belt, I came out of the session shaking like a leaf as the guy grading us was a mentalist and knew I couldn't go through that again. Even though the rest of the team said I passed with flying colours.

Well, playing around is one thing, but if you mean actually hitting them.. well, that is a question that should not need an answer, in my opinion. If you're hitting women, you may as well be hitting children and the elderly too. I'm not saying they aren't strong, or can not handle it, but rather that a person should have the respect for themselves and for others to avoid such a cowardess act.

Without concent it's still rape by definition of the law. And on the side, hope you get the report in before they do because then your royally screwed.

I'm fighting back in self defence 100% of the time I don't give a damn what gender the other person is. I can take a lot of pain but that doesn't give another person the right, especially a female, to inflict any on me in the first place. Get what you give or piss off really. Now if only the courts can get their head out of their arse and understand that logic; Female aggressor != victim if she loses a fight against a male.

It's a matter of proportion and situation. Like, if the woman is strong and has fighting skills and the guy is smaller than her and inexperienced, he probably won't even dare to hit her, even if she does start a fight, or if he does, it will probably make little difference. :P However, if the guy is obviously stronger than the girl, I'd think he'd better refrain from hitting her, for the sake of common sense. Same reason why you don't hit anyone weaker than you, like a child or an animal, because it's an unfair fight. In other words, it's no less unfair to hit a woman, than it is to hit a man, a child, or an animal, if they're defenceless and they did nothing to provoke it. As for domestic violence, I think any normal woman should walk out on her husband if he hit her, no matter the 'reason', and the other way around.

simple solution to this would be to learn some judo or other throwing based martial art so you can trip the person trying to fight you

That is a whole different situation. That guy was an [wagon] hole and he just attacked you for no reason. That is no indicator that 'we should never hit you'. Women want to be equal. Well they can be equal in that if they hit us, we hit back.

I've been following this story a bit lately. I know it's still allegations but it's not looking good for Greg. I heard on sky news and double checked on the ABC that this kind of crime carries a max of 25 years in prison. This is a serious offence he's facing, so I can only applaud the Sharks for standing him down indefinitely.

 

 

 

Glassing really is a hideous crime, especially against a girlfriend for Christ's sake.

 

 

 

If there's ever a need to see society take a stand against this crime, it's with higher profile people like Greg Bird. I think I'll lose what little hope I have left for our justice system if he doesn't get jail time if found guilty.
