On the cigarette discussion, what is the logic in breathing smoke? Logically, the body is made to breath fresh air. When I turned 18 though, I didn't do anything special, not even drink(well, for drinking, when I turned the legal drinking age of 19 in my province).

Kinda hard to tell, I don't pick up sarcasm, and this board's gone to crap lately.

Where I live, turning 18 unlocks driving.

 

 

 

Alcohol is allowed from 16 (not liquor, that's for 18+), as is tobacco.

 

 

 

Turning 18 wasn't special to me. Didn't get a driver's licence until I was 19 and a half years old. I don't smoke, and alcohol started when I was 16, because that's when I started going out. Before that, I didn't feel like going out, and I wasn't interested in drinking. Didn't start it because I could, but because I wanted to.

 

 

 

On a side note, 18-year old people are considered adults, but in many cases they aren't. Here, most 18-year old kids haven't even finished school, have no (full time) jobs (obviously), but still they are allowed to vote (most of them are not politically aware, making them a prey for opportunistic politicians) and drive cars...Odd, really......

Anyway, I'm probably gonna have some kind of party when I turn 18. I don't smoke, but at least I'll probably have a drivers license before.

It's kind of annoying to have people asking me to buy them cigarettes or whatnot now. They can get them themselves if they had a damn clue considering I started smoking underage and had no problem getting cigarettes.

 

Same here with alcohol. It's not that I don't mind buying 17 year olds alcohol, it's just if I got caught, kiss good-bye to any jobs in the public sector. Most shops accept their college ID too, and you can get them at 16. :roll:

 

 

 

Yeah. I guess it's not even the getting caught part that bothers me, it's that they'll call me up and ask me to go get them some during school or whatnot. I mean if we were hanging out and we stopped by a gas station then I'd have nothing against buying them a pack (as long as they've got money) but I'm not going to go out of my way to buy people cigarettes.

 

 

 

 

 

It's like what happens when you feed wild animals, they do not appreciate the priveledge and try to abuse it as much as possible. My younger brother(17) is a huge drinker, and I turn 19 in a week(legal age in Canada). I'm sure looking forward to it. :evil:

 

 

 

Move to manitoba you can drink when your 12 and drive when your 10. i joke, but its 18 (take that Saskatchewan) . I swear most of our tourism is 20 year olds coming up from the states

Considering there are immensely stupid people at all age spectrums, I don't see how that's true or has any relevance. There are 16-18 year olds smarter than I or you will ever be, and there are those who still act like a kindergardener throwing tantrums and hitting people when he/she doesn't get something.

The day I turned 18, I opened up a bank account, got a job, and got my license. I have yet to buy a lotto ticket, cigar, Hustler, or gun.
