Experts advise switching browser after serious IE flaw

Serious security flaw found in Internet Explorer.

Microsoft is investigating a serious security flaw present in all versions of Internet Explorer (though only IE7 seems to have been affected thus far) which allows an attacker to take hold of a persons computers and steal their passwords. Experts at Trend Micro have advised switching to another browser, at least until the problem is fixed.

Have you been effected by this flaw? If there are still any IE users out there, what are your thoughts on switching?

(Please don't turn this into a flaming IE SuCKS!!!1!!11!1 post, theres millions of other places on the web if you wanna do that)

You could try IE 8 if you really want to stick with Microsoft's browsers, though I'd say just to switch to Opera, Firefox, or Chrome.

IE8 is vulnerable too.

Only now are my parents taking note of the firefox I installed on their system years ago. They didn't really take in my suggestion before.

Funny though that they use a computer for internet browsing daily for years and still they had trouble understanding the concept of different browsers. :P

Oh how I love my Firefox. Problem free since day 1 <3:

I'm not surprised there is a flaw in IE, to be honest. When I used it, and my parents still do, there were problems all the time.

Maybe now my dad will finally download FF... Although I doubt someone's going to go to the bother of hacking IE6 on a Win2000...

Although I'm not sure what Ouchy's talking about... It's definitely the worst out there, but I've never had any problems other than it can't deal with transparent .pngs... and actually IE7 can... although that's the one with the big hole... That people would extort (? right word... idk)

The problem my parents face is that sometimes when they try to view a page it tells them that the Connection is Interrupted, but I can view the page fine.

Sure, and Fx will never ever have a bug. All those "zomfg glad I switched to FF" posts are a bit overdone, imo (also, the correct abbreviation is "Fx"). There's no guarantee Fx will never have a serious bug. In fact, Fx has had a few serious bugs already.

Note: I am a dedicated Fx user and don't ever want to switch back to IE.

To start: Firefox can and does have its share of major security flaws, it's just that they're patched up way faster than IE's. [Anonymous programmers are legion.]

Next, it doesn't surprise me at ALL that IE has such a critical flaw. You can almost predict when the next Microsoft product will have a critical flaw in it so accurately, you could set your watch to it.

Lastly, how the heck is Fx the appropriate abbreviation for Firefox? Consider the two words "Fire" and "Fox", and both begin with F, so FF is much more natural.

That's why everyone should use Opera (Opera>All IMO, start the flaming -.-) I tryed FireFox and I can just say one thing: WTF? Extremly slow to open (about 5 mins?),crashes randomly (I got a few add-ons like WOT and ad-block plus) and I can't play RS on it. The only thing that I like about FireFox is some add-ons (WOT, Ad-Block plus and some other). I know it's because of my computer that it's slow buy I don't care.

OT: When I saw this I lol'd irl.

Yeah, Opera owns on the security side as well. WoT will still load the page in the background when it pops up, but Opera will block you with a fraud warning.
