The best science?

I've noticed the majority of off-topic'ers have either studied or atleast have had a taste of a variety of different sciences, so I'd like to know: which is the best? Obviously there's many things to consider in each field of study, so let me rephrase my question to a more objective one in order to prevent eye-gouging flame wars based on technicalities: what is your favourite field of study? good enough ::'

At first I wanted this discussion to be as broad as possible, let people choose their favourite science with no debating. However, I'm going to force you to choose between the big four, hopefully we will get some disagreements. Here's the list:

  •
    Physics

    Chemistry

    Mathematics

    or

    Biology

I choose bio, and I personally think that all mathematicians are wasting their time on a excruciatingly painful science. Chemistry is also one of my least favourite, and physics is way up there with biology.

You?

my favorite would be chemistry (even though i really suck at it.) i'm taking it right now and its the only class i'm struggling to learn something. the equations, the formulas for finding stuff in chemicals....just gets me mazed and confused.

as for mathematics, geometry would be second in line. i just love solving equations and messing with angles. its a very easy class.

Out of those, I'd say I'm best at math, so there.

But math is quite useless if you don't apply it to something. Which the others do. Especially physics. So that's second.

Chemistry is third because you get to blow things up.

Biology is last because I hate it. A lot. My parents are/were both doctors, my sister plans on going into medicine, as do a bunch of my cousins, aunts and uncles. But not me. I hate that stuff.

Haha nice one Lat, I saved it to the computer.

Psychology and physics will always interest me the most though :D

Physics, though I'm probably better at Biology.

The thing is, physics and it's laws are used in Biology and Chemistry, so it's all-inclusive and all-awesome.

But I don't want to go among mad people!

Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here..."

Physics and chemistry are equally rawsome. Anywhere from quantum physics to studying chaotic theory of sub-atomic particles. I REALLY HATE these sciences when taught it school. Sure they teach you the basics but who the {bleep} cares how fast a 15kg ball rolls on a 30 degree slant in comparison to a 31.

Biology is pretty cool too, and math of course is a necessity for all of these.

Biology is extremely useful. I took it twice, and failed miserably, but I don't regret it.

A little warning though, it is an INSANE ammount of memorization.

well, you need mathmatics for all of the other sciences

a webcomic, XKCD, pointed out that biology is applied chemistry, and chemistry is applied physics (these are at minute levels)

but

hmm....

Physics number 1

Mathematics and Chem go here

maybe. it's a tossup most days, depends on whats enjoyable or not.

Chem.

Although I failed it both times I took it. \'

There was something just... exciting about conducting the experiments, and although they could be a little... frustrating at times, solving the necessary equations was quite fun.

Most sciences involve mathematics to some degree, so although it may be one of my least favorites of the "Big 4," it definently is useful.

Physics is probably my favourite. I enjoyed it because it was really interesting to hear the explanations behind everyday things that we don't think about (and also non-everyday things).

I'm best at math (geometry and trigonomotry are quite fun in particular, and I think all branches of math are the most useful in life.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

I don't even read that comic and it's the first thing that came to mind.

I would say physics interests me the most, but it's all gravy.

This came to my mind.

I hate science period.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

My favourite is biology, but what I'm studying involves some chemistry too (biochemistry, molecular biology).

It's all good stuff, though.

This is what I'm taking. I have a pretty bad memory which screws me with science, especially tests.

I don't have a great memory either... but over the last year I got into the habit of studying. No doubt you'd know this, but it really works. Just set some time aside and memorise key concepts by writing/typing them out and then reading over them.

Just don't get into the habit that my onetime lab partner did: constantly saying "I'm no good at tests" while doing nothing to try and solve the problem. A negative mentality like that isn't conducive to improvement at all.

Biology is my favorite, more specificaly marine biology. There just something exiting about the fact that there are thousands of plants and fish in the ocean that we've never seen yet.

Which is why I'd be interested in Xenobiology.

Or is it Astrobiology?

Hm.

But I don't want to go among mad people!

Biology, as in the human body. It's the prospect of all this being inside our bodies.

Physics always screwed me over.

Psychology has always sounded interesting and I actually learned quite a bit about myself last year when I was taking that course. My favorite part about it is it can be really handy throughout your whole life since you'll always be dealing with other people and yourself.

I noticed lots of people prefer chemistry because of the cool experiments, which brings up a point i've completely forgotten: labs.

In my college we have 2 hours labs per week, in math, bio, physics and chem. Math labs are just lectures so i'll exclude them from this post.

If I was to consider labs at my education level, chemistry is definitely the most interesting. Physics is just following instructions, calculating earth's gravitational pull ect (boring).

Bio is alright, but I've grown tired of classifying animals in a system that's going to be changed in the next few years. Chemistry, on the other hand, were the only challenging lab periods where you actually have to do a pre-lab exercise to understand what's going on. Time was a major factor, and you had to rush a lot and have good communication with your lab partner. I remember once my partner emptied a elynmyers flask filled with a solution that i'd been making for a good hour into the sink. :wall: Also, the same partner handed me a vial without looking at me, let go before my hand was even close. Luckily I "dove" for it, saving us from failing. The pressure was quite a lot of fun looking back on it.
