XxTearGodxX
Today is my cousin Andrew's 9th birthday his family are throwing a party for him and most of my moms side of the family is going to be there. I however will not, I don't like my moms side of the family, don't really ever think I will. I just never felt a family like bond with them after hanging out with them at other kids birthday parties or family outings. Today my aunt calls me up and asks why I didn't come to her sons birthday and she knows damn well I don't like them (not just her everyone on my moms side except for my grandmother and my cousin and his mom & dad). I told her as usual "I don't feel like it", apparently it's not a good enough answer for her and she is supposedly on her way out to my house to talk with me cause she thinks I'm sick in the head. I haven't seen anyone in my moms family aside from my grandmother & cousin & his parents for about 12 years now and I really don't plan on changing that any time soon. So, do you sometimes have family members you dislike? Or some even you feel you don't have a family bond with?

forestfrolic
I don't like my father's step mom. Since my grandpa died last year, I find no reason to go over to her house to visit. But I do go occasionally to be nice. Nemo vir est qui mundum non reddat meliorem..
angryjoe
Gahaha, how old are you? Oh, and I'd say you were pretty selfish, I don't particularly like seening some of the people in my family but will make the odd appearence.
Laura
What would you even do at the birthday party? Sit and watch your cousin play with other 8/9 year olds? I would have done the same thing, even if I liked that side of the family.
RichieMcD
Honestly, I'd consider it pretty rude and selfish to do what you did. It's only a few hours of boredom and unhappiness, but it can mean a lot to certain people.
Joes_So_Cool
Well, it's kind of opposite for me, I love my dads side of the family, but he passed away when I was 5, (11 years ago), the only time I ever see them is Christmas and Birthdays, I wish I saw them more, they only live 20 minutes away, but my step dad feels "awkward" which is understandable, but he doesn't have to come. Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.
BlueLancer
My life is also the opposite; my closest relatives were always extremely close to our family, me & my brother also had bonds with them. They were practically like our brothers and sisters despite living way across Europe in the balkans. Then I got my mother's side of the family though which is nordic only, and I don't have many family connections there. Even my uncle who is my direct blood relative through my grandfather, never wanted to have anything to do with me. I don't blame him, but it's way different than the relations I was used to. Barely any of the swedish and finnish speaking blood relatives I have, have ever contacted our family frequently after we were about age 10 or so, except some random aunts and whatnot. I also got 1 relative family in Denmark who never did as much as even sending a christmas card even though we did.
XxTearGodxX
Are there any specific reasons you don't like them?I probably got the title wrong, I'll have to rephrase it I don't necessarily hate them I just don't feel a family type of bond with them is all. Gahaha, how old are you? Oh, and I'd say you were pretty selfish, I don't particularly like seening some of the people in my family but will make the odd appearence.I'm 26 and how am I selfish for not wanting to visit family? I don't see a point in visiting them if I honestly do not feel connection with them. What would you even do at the birthday party? Sit and watch your cousin play with other 8/9 year olds? I would have done the same thing, even if I liked that side of the family.Exactly, there isn't anything for me to do over there except sit & watch tv then get up to eat dinner and have cake. Honestly, I'd consider it pretty rude and selfish to do what you did. It's only a few hours of boredom and unhappiness, but it can mean a lot to certain people.I can be rude and selfish but in this case I'm not. I haven't seen my family in 12 years cause as I said I don't feel close to them and I don't feel there's a family like bond with them.
Giordano
I don't have much of a connection with my greater family. My parents and I live in America while the rest of them in Argentina. We've only been there twice and some of my aunts came to visit here once or twice. And I guess because of this separation I never really understood why family was so important. You didn't choose to be their family and if they're rioting assfaces I don't think you should think they're important. But I don't hate my family, I just don't know much about them. :| Although my mother hates her brother. After their father died he came down to the funeral only to pick up his share of the inheritance. And before that, when he was sick, he never helped out my grandmother neither. If you're going to opt-out of going (which is fine), you better learn some people skills first! That's a horrible answer. Make up some excuse next time; even if you hate them, be polite. megakiller32
My entire dad's side is boring and depressing. Don't even get me started on my dad, just think of all the bad, dishonest, disloyal things a father and husband can do, he's done them all and worse and more. So, do you sometimes have family members you dislike? Or some even you feel you don't have a family bond with? I am not gonna say that u are right in this situation, nor that you are wrong either. It all depends on the situation, and also how does ur cousin feel about you? Cuz if he loves you and looks up to you, then an appearance would be necessary and by not going you are a douche. But if the situation is if he has no idea or any care about you, then ditch out.
War_Junky_91
My Aunt and Uncle (married to each other) of my mom's side, i can not stand them or their idiot devil child. I would go out of my way to skip that kid's birthday party. But other than them i'm really close with all of my family, we get together a lot and have fun. And Quoi_Tu is right, you needed a better excuse, could have said you were sick or had a date. Just work on your excuses, other than that i say your good!
Da_Latios
I wouldn't have gone to the birthday party. Nobody can force you! And War Junky, I personally don't make excuses. I tell them exactly why I don't want to go. I'm not a person who will make excuses or lie. If I get in trouble for it, so what? At least I'm not a liar. Distracted
There's always familicide. I'd call it pesticide. OT: Dude, I mean even if you hate them, it's not that big of a deal to go bore yourself there. Maybe some kid is thinking the same and you'll get a long or whatever. Anyway, when I'm in Egypt visiting relatives I don't even know most of their names, so yeah, it's always awkward to meet semi-distant relatives, but you never know if they're more polite/nice then they look.
