The only game women are better than men at in general I think is TETRIS. No kidding. And maybe the snake game on cellphones. <img src='http://forum.tip.it/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/eusa_dance.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<img src='http://forum.tip.it/ipbnew/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />/' />

lol not really. my highest ranked friend is a girl. plus my 2 clan leaders are both women and they do a GREAT job

I've known some of Runescapes greatest female personalities too. But I'm still sticking to my beliefs :P

Like Pepsi? She sure did love giving shows.

probably because video games are not geared or marketed towards females, nor are females encouraged to play them by the mainstream media. Most women do not want to be given the "nerd" stereotype which is common of most female gamers and an even higher percentage of female mmo gamers. a guy playing call of duty is considered cool or normal, while a girl playing COD in my eyes is nerdy or weird. its just how the gaming world (america) works.

for the record if a girl introduces herself to me by mentioning (for an example) her COD playing i become much more suspicious of her than if she said she enjoyed playing softball. if a girl brought up runescape or WoW in conversation i would throw up the red flag and gtfo.

From a personal standpoint, video games are my escape from real life, a place i can go and play with people just like me. playing with women just doesn't feel right.. i view video games as a male past-time, much like cheerleading or dancing is a female past-time. if girls see a male cheerleader or dancer, they figure he is homosexual. if i play with a female gamer, i infer that she is not one of the popular kids at school, doesn't have a boyfriend, is probably a nerd, and doesn't get outside too much.

Not marketed towards girls? Good thing we have Gamestop!

I mean, it's got all girls need. Cookin Mama, Bratz, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, and Hillary Duff.

I mean...that's the kind of games girls like, right? I trust my dudes at Gamestop, they know games more than anyone, especially if you pay for the preorder.

I was going to use my little pony and barbie as examples.. obviously some games are, but the games that are getting the best funding and development teams aren't wasting their time on women. how many "girl" games have gotten game of the year awards? the sarcasm in your post really doesn't make sense as you only picked out one part of my statement which i still believe to be accurate and relevant to this discussion. game developers assume that females do not have the attention span or intensity level to thoroughly enjoy or play today's "big" games. whether it be a lengthly RPG or a fast paced FPS, developers assume women are not on the same level as men, i somewhat concur. in some cases i bet women are actually better gamers than men.

Women actually play video games more than men. However, women usually play simple games such as Minesweeper, while men like games such as Half-Life.

I hate Minesweeper. And last time I looked, I'm a girl.

Look again; one can never be too careful about these things.

Runescape, and especially TIF, actually has many more women playing it than most games. Think about it, when's the last time you met a woman on a multiplayer FPS, or even saw a woman in a video game store? Women are less common in the gaming world because society says they should be, and developers make games that cater to the majority.

The desire to play video games starts at an early age, and at this age one pays a lot of attention to peer pressure. Girls are less likely to be interested in games simply because they were never told to be interested in games.

It all harkens back to the early days of the internet, where men were men, women were men, and children were FBI agents.

Epic. :D

about 63% of the customers in the local gamestop, at least one in eight of the people I've played left for dead with (don't know about anyone without voice), about a third of my opponents in Half Life deathmatch.

They are out there, your eyes are just not open.

You're different than I. I would like chicks that play cod and even other games. In my eyes that's pretty cool.

Three months banishment to 9gag is something i would never wish upon anybody, not even my worst enemy.

Ugh. For the longest time, most stores around me had like 75% of their games targeted at a younger girl audience. Thankfully that passed eventualy

There should be nothing wrong with girls playing games. Yes, I understand why many of us don't. When I grew up I wasn't interested in make up or 'girly' things. I spent my life wanting to be a Pokemon master. When I was young there was no gender differences. It didn't matter. I carried these beliefs and feelings right up until now. While I can understand 'boy things' and 'girl things' - I don't think that it should be restricted at all. As a teenager I played games, I wasn't interested in my appearance I was interested in calling a friend over for multiplayer on the PS2.

The idea of 'girl games' and 'boy games' is crap too. A good game can be understood and played by any gender. I used to play both The Sims (often seen as a rather girl-aimed game) and Wresting games (clearly aimed at boys). While certain concepts will appeal to certain genders, that's just socialisation at work. You will find less girls playing games overall, or certain games, because they've been told 'this is a boy thing' and they don't think they can participate. Or they don't want to participate.

Until you convince men and women to rid gender roles, something that will never happen, you'll always find that girls are less inclined towards games like Runescape.

I think The Sims is targeted toward both genders, young and old, its very easy to get addicted to that kind of game no matter who you are.

For the most part, I think there are more girls playing online games like Runescape or WoW compare to other game categories like first person shooter. I know a number of players on my list are females, but I don't think there would be any gender difference because there is no way you can tell if other party is male or female unless you know them in real life. Even if you do know their true gender, what difference does it make? If they are on your friend list, that means you deem them worthy of staying on at least. I once met a few "cross dresser", guys pretend to be girls to get free stuff from their "bfs" and girls pretend to be guys to get bugged less often. So its totally on one's own perspective and general norms that you need to be this to do that and such.

I remember one of my funniest time in my RS life was during a trip to yew trees at Remmington, I was wearing full monk with a blue mage hat (but a guy character with long hair). This guy walks by and greeted me and said, howdy lvl 124, and then he said I am hot because of my long hair (my character has long black hair since I leave my hair all the way down to near waist in real life when I made him). After realizing his mistake that my character is a guy, he quickly apologize to me and run off, lol.

Game wise, I think I am bound by 2 mentalities that first video games will always be more of a guy thing just because the way we been brought up. But after meeting more girl gamers, I am also changing my own view on whole social norm thing.

a happy Runescaper
